  1. Did you read Bruce's post and then paraphrased it? Sounds like you did, just a thought. Actually, I didn't. But he's right on.
  2. We're not the first team to walk away from Towers and his demands in this. Everyone knows what kind of situation the Pads are in. He has painted himself into a corner. Just wait and see and stop acting like your life hinges on every tidbit we hear about it (this obviously is only directed at certain people).
  3. Roberts would've made us a better team, maybe, at the point that Fukudome started sucking. And even then, it would've been a while before he would've been benched full time in favor of DeRo.
  4. Where did that rumor come from? I haven't seen anything publicly said about the Cubs by Peavy. Does anyone have any links about anything Peavy has said? (I haven't been following this at all this offseason). Well, we had our own guy here who said he ran into Peavy in Puerto Rico and that Peavy said he wanted to come here. The Go Cubs, Go rumor came from Roman Modrowski's blog on the Sun-Times site.
  5. Unless Towers reconsiders. I'm not really sure what Towers was thinking publicly excluding them and further minimizing his leverage in this situation. Why be so open about it? I doubt Towers would trade his best player to a division rival unless there were absolutely no other options. Which is kind of dumb given the circumstances. He should trade him to whoever gives him the best package. The Padres aren't going to compete with anyone in the near future anyway.

  7. Exactly. It's dead for now, like Bruce said. Even if we don't get him, as long as he doesn't somehow wind up in our division (which I have a hard time seeing), I'm ok with it.
  8. Supposedly, Bradley has actually been seen by team doctors in Mesa and checked out to see if he can handle playing the OF. I knew we had checked up on him medically, but I didn't know our doctors had actually examined him and not his records.
  9. They'll have to trade him at some point. So, we'll see what happens.
  10. that's what she said Freakin link? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com
  11. Relax. The Cubs have the leverage here and it looks like they're using it as they should. Jesus. Thank you! I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought Hendry is actually playing it smart. I think most reasonable posters are in agreement.
  12. FWIW, don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but Levine said this morning (on Waddle and Silvy) that he thinks it's "more than likely" we'll end up with Bradley.

  14. But then if he has a NTC, what does he need 10/5 rights for? Do they carry over into subsequent contracts in which he might not be able to otherwise get a NTC?
  15. I thought Giles just refused the trades so he wouldn't lose his 10/5 rights before he got them... Now that he's got them, I thought I heard he's more open to being moved.
  16. Gets me more excited but Clement has the edge over Dempster for me FWIW, Clement never had a season as good as Dempster's 2008. His 2002 might've been close. But I know what you're saying.
  17. dude that's the same article from early yesterday just with a different title Yea... updated like 16 hrs ago...
  18. You need to not believe every thing you read as though it's the 100% truth.
  19. What's that even mean? EDIT - What Ravech said, that is.
  20. Why do people still pretend like that means guys can't be traded? If we wanted to trade him, the receiving team would have to convince him to waive it, sure, and it would impact what we got back, but it happens quite a bit. Pretending like a guy absolutely won't be traded because of an NTC is simply ignoring history. It's a lot more common for guys with NTCs to waive them in exchange for something (more money, option picked up, etc) than it is for guys to stand fast and refuse to be traded to any other club out there. Look at Peavy...we're about to get him only BECAUSE he has a NTC. If he didn't have an NTC, we wouldn't be in the conversation. Which is exactly why it's pointless to discuss guys with NTCs in hypothetical trade scenarios (well, even more pointless than guys who don't have NTCs).
  21. According to Steve Phillips, it would be 2 years, 12-14 million. Really? We can't pay that? Skip the Peavy garbage, re-sign Woody, sign Bradley and call it a day. Seriously?
  22. I'm extremely excited about both, and it would be one hell of an offseason considering it was supposed to be rather uneventful.
  23. You're complaining that they're trying to improve the team too much? I mean, you have a point, but as a fan, I'd have no problem with trying to field a team with all stars at every position. Sure, the playoffs are a crapshoot, but I'd rather be betting on the 6 or 8 than the 10....
