  1. obvious troll is obvious
  2. I just hope that stupid baseball logic leads to him staying in his former role (the same stupid baseball logic that has people, himself included, wanting him to close)...
  3. It wouldn't be COMPLETELY idiotic to say Fukudome, but beyond that....
  4. Maybe I'm misreading your post (which I easily could be), but I'm not sure what you're trying to say. The Cubs, presumably, see the problem as being against righties. Hence the supposed desire to add more LH bats to the lineup.
  5. True. I choose to be in denial about that part of it because I never really acknowledged that there was any competition. Let's just be happy it's playing out the way it should and leave it at that.
  6. He's a passable option at 2B vs LHP, not that I want him around, and can play a bunch of positions. None of that justifies the signing, but I'm guessing that was the reasoning behind it. he's played 7 games in the of in his whole career. 15 at third. he can play short and second and maybe get thrown into a couple other spots, but he's not an awesome guy who can play a bunch of positions. Who said he was? He's a utility/back-up IFer who might be able to play OF in a pinch. I don't see where we disagree. Maybe my use of "a bunch of positions" was a bit too liberal.

  8. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-10-cubs-bits-chicagomar10,0,6520455.story Good news, although I have thought all along that Fontenot would get the majority of the playing time.
  9. Milton Bradley? I suppose that's only as long as kfuk is in center instead of RJ. last year for the second half against RHP it was Edmonds and Fukudome occupying CF and RF, now it's Bradley and Fukudome. He's right, the only left handed bat we added to the lineup against RHP is Fontenot, and I bet he won't even get much playing time against RHP. I'm willing to bet he'll get most of it.
  10. I think there's some validity to the idea that there need to be some (good) lefties for pitchers to have to deal with so they don't get into a rhythm in terms of location... it's the same reason we shouldn't be going all righty vs. lefties.
  11. They'd be a hell of a lot closer if they weren't losing to terrible teams. It's sickening.
  12. It's probably because I was at the two wins in the 06 Miami series.
  13. I know that of all the playoff "runs" we had the last few years, the one I enjoyed the most was the second one when we lost in 6 games to the Heat. A season where we went 41-41. It was fun because that team was really on a run at the end of the regular season, and the team had no business being in any of those games against the Heat, but they won 2 of the games, and stayed very close in 2 others. I pretty much agree with this. Although it's hard for me to say I enjoyed it more than the following year when we swept Miami and at least fought back a little after falling down 3-0 to Detroit, I think I did.
  14. The guy who played scotty covers baseball now? That's besides the point, Dempster is cut from the same cloth Mike Bielecki, Estaban Loiaza, Kent Bottenfield, Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright were cut from. I know you're kidding but... http://www.baseballinfosolutions.com/ourteam.html
  15. That is definitely midseason form for the best offense in the NL by a wide margin (and second best in baseball) last year. Figured I'd be the first to complain about the chicken littles. :) GAME OVER grand slam in 3...2... The Cobs suck *runs over to secret game thread and complains about irrational posts*

  17. As a fan of basketball and of the Bulls, I would get fun out of watching any extra Bulls games, let alone playoff games. *shrug* Playoff games are fun... especially if the Bulls make a run and play well down the stretch and look like they have a chance to win a few games and maybe a series. I can enjoy watching my teams even if I know they don't have much, if any, chance to win a championship.
  18. in there like swimwear
  19. Hollinger's ranking system has the Bulls 11th in the NBA and 4th in the East. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/powerranking I could pretty realistically see us making it all the way to the 6th seed. Let's hope they don't have a let down here, as the schedule sets up nicely for them to really pick up steam. I love the versatility with the new roster.
  20. It's probably good that you're not that excited for a meaningless (and incredibly boring) spring training game (although it'll be fun to listen to an inning or two after all this time). If you're not excited come Opening Day, that's when you talk about your spirit being broken. I think it's got more to do with being older than any heartbreak from last year, anyway. 10 years ago I would listen to the whole games and get just as excited/pissed as I would for a regular season game. That seems completely ridiculous to me now. But time went a lot slower back then and I guess the offseason seemed a lot longer than it does now. Before I know it, it'll be real opening day. Meh.
  21. I'd like the idea of getting Rose a taste of the NBA playoffs right away and maybe even some minor playoff success, similar to Wade's rookie year. That's worth more to me than a few draft slots in what amounts to a pretty weak draft.
  22. John Dewan made a pretty good case for why Dempster would continue to be a good starter and for why last year wasn't a fluke on WSCR early in the offseason (around the time he was in negotiations to re-sign), but unfortunately, I have almost zero recollection of what his argument was.
