  1. http://chicagocubsonline.com/archives/2016/01/report-links-cubs-to-jonathan-lucroy.php Goes along with that report that came like immediately after Heyward signed. Can't remember who it was, though. Might be the Kaplan thing they're mentioning.
  2. can someone explain what that's about like i don't get how that's even a glitch that can happen lmao
  3. fwiw, his contact numbers in the big leagues last year need to improve. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=16478&position=C/OF#platediscipline
  4. And if their rookie years were their peaks, it shouldn't really surprise anyone (or necessarily be all that disappointing as long as it isn't a huge outlier season). i'd be very happy if you told me kris bryant would have a career that more or less mirrored 2015 without any improvement. same with schwarber.
  5. ugh both of these games sucked and went the way i didn't want
  6. I rarely even eat fries with ketchup.
  7. Backup shortstop who won't play because Russell doesn't need a backup. Baez traded for Cobb. Any better? You do, in fact, probably want to have more than one capable SS on the roster (and not just because Russell has a history of hamstring problems) and calling Zobrist that would be a stretch. And no, trading Baez for a rehabbing pitcher would not please me.
  8. I would like to see those things and it is certainly one of many possible outcomes, but I wouldn't say significant improvement should be expected or projected. Edit: this was in response to Tim's post
  9. I will say that piscotty was a decently regarded prospect (like top 50ish at one point, iirc) and he did make tangible approach and swing changes to hit for more power last year, so he might be more legit than his history says. Or he might not be. Doesn't really matter that much. Also, I'm not sure who writing off the cardinals would be "risky" for, but it's not us.
  10. This is basically what i would've replied if I were on a computer and not my phone. And complaining about projections being too low when they ultimately combine for a 95 win median team projection seems kinda silly. Your last paragraph seems to ring especially true when our rookies came in as big league ready as their play showed last year. I wouldn't expect a lot of improvement and I would be more than happy if they were about the same as last year.

  12. Clay Davenport's projections. Pretty high on the Dodgers. http://claydavenport.com/projections/PROJHOME.shtml

Agreed. And don't see a need to trade hitting for a middling pitcher just because of youth and cost control. They can address the back of the rotation on a year to year basis pretty easily. I'm more concerned with what happens at the top of the rotation in 2018 when Lester is 2 years older and Arrieta's no longer cheap and ours. But that might as well be light years away in pitching terms.
  16. they should've reached out to luke walton
  17. The easiest solution for all of you guys with blackout issues (assuming you have the bandwidth to stream) is getting MLB.tv and using a VPN site like unblock-us.com to get past the restrictions. It's like $5 a month. Worked for me last season when I cut the cord and got rid of cable.

  19. i think the clarks in lincoln park was doing like $1.50 domestic bottles until not too long ago on friday nights, but i think they closed. i'm sure someone, somewhere is doing it.
  20. If a waffle isn't delicious without butter and syrup, you're doing it wrong. This guy gets it. The pizza cliche is still based around it being good pizza, not dousing it supplemental [expletive]. i'm sorry but anybody eating a waffle with nothing on it is some kind of [expletive] crazy weirdo who i dont want to associate with
  21. this is what i get for not reading through a thread before i reply. i saw gato's post yesterday and meant to reply when i got back around to it so i did. :-"
  22. And Willson Contreras? And Lucroy will be 30 this year. Not saying I'd be opposed to acquiring him at the right price (which it probably wouldn't be), but catching isn't really a concern in the short or long term. It's an underrated need in the long term. Having a good year in AA =/= position settled for a while. i'm a lot more willing than many to bite on "one good year" when the peripherals are exactly where they need to be, i guess. by the same token, i'm probably not as willing to buy in on larger sample size if they aren't there. but anyway, i suppose that's all in how you define certain terms. having maybe the best C prospect in baseball is a pretty good spot to be in when looking at the long term of the position, though. as it is, there aren't even that many established productive catchers who you can feel good about years down the road.
  23. yeah, we need to stop viewing player development and the farm system through the lens of the last however many decades of cubs farm systems. this is a completely different animal and we are one of the elites in that department now.
  24. I feel like you missed the worst of it then
