  1. more jeff confirmation
  2. pretty sure his connection is actually through Ted
  3. Jeff is beating Schefter to scoops by several hours lol this is hilarious
  4. Identity is an effect, not a cause. A lot of people get the direction of causality backward. It's kind of like the concept of self-esteem. Or (in the vast majority of cases) team chemistry.
  5. For me, it's more about trying to suss out what their philosophies and strategies might be by looking for interviews/articles where they talk about stuff. (An example might be that Theo clip that went around where he went on the radio and talked about how RBIs aren't a good measure of a player - not that I needed any convincing on Theo). I want to know how they feel about analytics. Scouting vs analytics and how to blend them. How much do they value draft picks and what is their philosophy on trading up vs. down? What traits do they look for? How many guys do they want in the room? Etc. As others have mentioned, trying to figure out who is responsible for certain successes in a given organization is a fool's errand with the level of information we have on most of them.
  6. I've seen somebody say, just yesterday, that the Bears need to stop trying to play like they play in a dome and run the ball and play D because the field is so bad. Like really? They play the damn Packers every year who's field is in a random neighborhood, 200 miles away from Chicago and is somehow 60 degrees colder on a normal basis, and they throw the ball all over the freaking stadium. (You're absolutely right, but the Packers have a much better playing surface than the Bears)
  7. Yep. Pompei is still doing his thing like it's 1992 or some horsefeathers.
  8. Dan Pompei with some horsefeathers that reads like like a meatball parody https://theathletic.com/3066364/2022/01/12/pompei-when-it-comes-to-identity-the-bears-need-to-go-back-to-being-the-bears/?source=freedailyemail&campaign=601983
  9. For those of you that aren't local and also aren't paying close enough attention, the Bulls are on national TV (ESPN) tonight. At 9PM, lol. Following game with the Warriors also on ESPN. Then on TNT on the 17th against Memphis.
  10. There's a lot to like about Flores. He has overachieved with shitty rosters and Tua isn't that good. He was also, from what I understand, on record as wanting the Dolphins to take Herbert over Tua. But while I'm willing to be open minded on some of the guys with defensive backgrounds, I keep coming back to the fact that nothing matters more than Justin Fields. Any path to consistent contention goes through him. Knowing that, I just have a hard time seeing an argument for a head coach whose primary focus isn't that side of the ball. Flores "if he just gets the OC/QB thing right" just seems like an obviously wrong approach. And if he DOES get the OC/QB thing right and things are going swimmingly (which is obviously a best case situation), then you lose your OC to a HC gig and we go through the same [expletive] OC carousel situation we've gone through with practically every swing we've taken at QB.
  11. of course it is a promotion Why of course? It sounds like VP of FO would be a title given to the GMs boss Wrigley's answer pretty much covered it, but even in this case, he works underneath the GM. I understand his title is longer than that but he's still below the general manager.
  12. Is GM a promotion over VP of Football operations? I guess in title it’s worse but in responsibility he has full control over the Bears vs likely reporting to a president of FO in Cleveland of course it is a promotion
  13. keep doing the reverse jinx thing. it worked with pace and now we need it to work with frazier.
  14. am i missing something here? It's 2022. That tweet is from a year ago. man i'm an idiot. good call.
  15. am i missing something here?
  16. this seems to sum it up lol i don't really care about any of this and most of it is meaningless but it has made for incredible entertainment.
  17. apropos of nothing, he was the guy they brought in to fix rex's footwork or something like that, iirc lol
  18. https://twitter.com/PFF_Anthony/status/1480552861020917760?s=20
  19. What does it really matter, either way? Does McCaskey making the hire on his own make you feel any better than Phillips? We just have to hope they manage to get it right, even if it's accidentally.
