  1. OH horsefeathers HOW DEEP DOES IT GO?
  2. some good info in this thread
  3. But I think you are basing your opinion too much on one failed hire. Look at 3 examples that worked out well in this weekend's conference championship games. That said I definitely don't think the Bears HAD to make an offensive hire for it to work out...I just would have preferred knowing that we had a coach that has developed great QBs in the past. And no Matt Nagy developing Mahomes doesn't count Marc Trestman was also an offensive minded coach that didn't exactly work out well. It's far more important to get an offensive coach that can run a quality offense and whom the HC allows to run that quality offense. Yeah but (unlike Nagy) Marc Trestman was a clown ass totally out of left field hire from a mile away. It was never exciting and it never made any sense. (I don't disagree with the points you're making despite my strong preference for an offensive HC and continuity and consistency of approach on offense)
  4. That's possible. It's also possible that Quinn was the guy and bowed out (I believe he was still supposed to interview with NYG before he withdrew his name from all).
  5. Runs a Tampa 2 base though, right? I wonder what he'll aim to do with the defense here and if he'll consider keeping Desai around.
  6. To add to this...I've been underwhelmed with every Bears coaching hire of my lifetime except Nagy, who I was pretty damn happy about, so yeah. I was underwhelmed with Jauron (wanted Kubiak IIRC - sidenote: Bears had Bill Belichick in the building in that hiring cycle and chose both Dave McGinnis and Dick Jauron over him, lol). Was underwhelmed with Lovie (and his whole "#1 we have to beat Green Bay" meatbally thing in the press conference didn't warm me up to him). Was underwhelmed with the weirdo Trestman hire. Doesn't mean he's not going to turn out to be a solid (or even great) HC. Obviously, Lovie was. Doesn't mean it's a bad hire, even. Just doesn't excite me. Eager to see OC candidate names come out.
  7. I am...underwhelmed. Ugh. Runs an antiquated defensive style but has obviously done well with it. We'll see what kind of offensive staff he can put together.
  8. it isn't necessarily not expanding
  9. I could get on board with that. My biggest concern is obviously just how much responsibility those guys have had given how hands on McVay appears to be and that Kafka would be another Reid guy who may or may not have much to do with their success. Have the other McVay assistants taken a lot of his concepts? so hard to know how good LaFleur actually is given Rodgers is there
  10. for horsefeathers and giggles (and obviously, caveats regarding the quarterbacks involved apply), i looked up the DVOAs of all the offenses Caldwell either was OC or HC for. kind of a mixed bag. 2009 Indy (HC) - #6 2010 Indy (HC) - #6 2011 Indy (HC) - #27 2013 Baltimore (OC) (he was interim at the end of 2012) - #31 2014 Detroit (HC) - #19 2015 Detroit (HC) - #13 2016 Detroit (HC) - #15 2017 Detroit (HC) - #12 His two playoff teams were the two worst years DVOA-wise. ?? 2011 and 2013?
  11. for shits and giggles (and obviously, caveats regarding the quarterbacks involved apply), i looked up the DVOAs of all the offenses Caldwell either was OC or HC for. kind of a mixed bag. 2009 Indy (HC) - #6 2010 Indy (HC) - #6 2011 Indy (HC) - #27 2013 Baltimore (OC) (he was interim at the end of 2012) - #31 2014 Detroit (HC) - #19 2015 Detroit (HC) - #13 2016 Detroit (HC) - #15 2017 Detroit (HC) - #12
  12. hope so
  13. I love Caldwell as an OC, I'm skeptical as all hell with him as HC. But I like the GM hire and do think Caldwell would be good for Fields development. Maybe not the best, but at least positive. basically how i'd feel
  14. ugh. we tried this already with fox/pace. it went so well. (i'm not saying caldwell is fox - but specifically that approach of forcing an old guy on a young exec. i'd be much happier with caldwell than i was with fox)
  15. I mean, there's a ton we don't know about what conversations are being had as they interview both HC and GM candidates at the same time. Some HCs are going to be more empowered and some aren't. Some GMs are probably suggesting some HCs and/or saying which ones they want to work with or have had conversations with. Obviously, there's at least one guy with a 2nd interview lined up. We know that much. And there's no official GM yet.
  16. this horsefeathering blows
  17. couldn't possibly care less about what kaplan has to say or what he or his "source" thinks about the search process this "too many candidates" thing is the dumbest narrative i've ever seen since the "these guys aren't qualified to hire a top football guy, so the same guys need to hire a different top football guy to hire a less top football guy" thing
  18. Going to use generic titles to avoid that nonsense half seriously connecting some dots here? Kahn - primary football guy (president?) Hortiz - secondary football guy (GM?) Harbaugh - HC Caldwell - OC
  19. leave it to minnesota to suggest that dabearsblog guy is michael mccaskey tweeting from beyond the grave
  20. This is such a tease tweet lol. And turning off the comments so he can get retweet. Bait. nah, its Micheal M putting out feelers to Bear Fans on a Harbaugh hire who
