  1. Touche. I'm sure Hendry got the most that he could. It's too bad Maddux didn't want to go to the Rangers. We could have traded him for DeRosa. That brings up another point. Hendry's hands were really tied with Maddux's demands (which were well deserved). Hendry was staring at getting nothing for him and seeing what they had in the AAA/AAAA pitchers. Okay, I know you probably didn't mean it this way, but this sure looks like you just quoted yourself, and then said, "Touche." Which is funny. lmfao
  2. This is good, as long as you're looking at the right things. This doesn't look like a very good start to me. It looks to me, other than the one quote from Lou (which, admittedly, I'm not enamored with), that Paul Sullivan is the one looking at all the wrong things there. I'm doubting that Lou said anything referencing how Eyre or any pitcher has done against a particular team. That's just absurdly stupid logic, pretty much what we've come to expect from Paul. That doesn't mean I trust that Lou will be looking at the right things himself, though.
  3. I may just have to drive up to Milwaukee for that series, although the fact that it seems Prior will be slotted #3 has thrown a wrench in my plans to go up to see him pitch (crosses fingers in hopes that he'll be pitching at all).
  4. I sure hope so, but there's about 21 million reasons why that won't happen (I know, predictable response, sue me). Hopefully, if Marquis is stinkin it up, Lou won't hesitate to go to one of the other options. At least it seems they realize he's no better than the 5th starter on this staff. It just makes you wonder why they would give him that contract in the first place, though.
  5. I know it's not the best source, but Wikipedia's article on Hornsby mentions the story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogers_Hornsby You might be able to find out something more if you go through the references the article lists. Or you could do something I would never recommend or ever ever condone or do and just make up your source by saying it was in "This Old Cub" or something.
  6. I don't know about that. You have a far more significant sample size with lefty/righty splits than you do with any matchup stats. I don't want Jones starting against some lefty because he happens to be 4 for 9 against him.
  7. Not that it matters much (actually it doesn't matter at all), but what the hell kind of approach is that? He has to pitch 'a little bit better' on the days that the opposition is pitching well? How about you just go out there and get as many guys out as you can? Sound good, Ted? Again, I don't really care, since what it really comes down to is how he goes out and pitches, but his quote just struck me in a weird way.
  8. I'm guessing the "hilarious" part of your post was in sarcasm? Your guess is right.
  9. She bears a bit of a resemblance to Elisha Cuthbert. At least, that's what I always think when I see that.
  10. Is Sammy actually trying to hit the ball to the right side of the field for once? His swing must be pretty slow right now, because Sammy is a dead pull hitter. For once? It's a shame you missed 1998-2002. You and vance beat me to it. From 1998 right up until the head beaning in 2003, Sammy was great at using the opposite field.
  11. I'm not sure, but I think this is the first use of the hilarious towel drill joke in this thread. Might be a record or something.
  12. Agreed. On a similar note, when will the Shawon Dunston long stirrups come back? I hope never. Wasn't Maddux using those things?
  13. What in the hell did we ever do with Jerome Williams anyway?
  14. I really hope he does well.
  15. It takes longer sometimes for the confirmation email to go through. On two of my purchases, the emails came within 5 min. On the other, it took an hour. Just something to keep in mind.
  16. Clines did do some good things... wasn't he the one responsible for altering D-Lee's stance/approach to the plate that lead to his breakout 2005 season? Dusty and Clines didn't kill our OBP by ruining individual hitter's plate discipline. They killed it with their input on personnel selection. Their swing early swing often certainly contributed to the problem. Dusty openly mocked patience and the value of walks. Agreed.
  17. When were you in high school? 94-98 Very possible, then.
  18. When were you in high school?
  19. Pretty good piece from Bruce on Matt. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=284097 I love that he's writing about this kind of stuff and trying to get this school of thought out to the mainstream. Unfortunately, I doubt that the general public will be very receptive to this stuff anytime very soon. I bet he gets tons of emails from old-school types asking what the hell he's talking about or why he would write a whole article about someone's patient approach at the plate instead of taking jabs at Aramis Ramirez's hustle.
  20. They won't be skipping starts. Lou has said as much.
  21. Maybe this'll take some attention away from the ticket thread... New pics.. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20402231936.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg204.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20502231934.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg205.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20302231930.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg203.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20202231927.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg202.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20102231925.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg201.jpg Probably the only two players I really dislike on this roster... (Novoa and Izturis)
  22. This is the first year since 2003 that he's been on or ahead of schedule going into spring training. He went on a specialized workout regimen for his shoulder over the offseason. Reports from camp are that he's not just throwing, but throwing extremely well. Better than he has in years. BTW, 2005 Prior was a pretty good pitcher himself. I don't see the anomaly that was 2006 Prior returning. These are not the same stories we hear ever year, not even close. Other years they've said that he'd be ready to start the season but there hasn't been any reason to believe that. This year there's no reason to believe he wouldn't be ready.
  23. Haven't been able to get any of the huge series.. but at least I haven't been stuck getting the really crappy ones. Got four more.. Saturday 9/1 vs. Astros Hopefully the Stros won't be completely crappy.
