  1. Christ, I can't imagine what a Northwestern slumpbuster looks like. Real world 6's over there are 9's or 10's...
  2. This is probably one of my biggest pet peeves of ALL TIME. I can't, for the life of me, understand how somebody can think that, say, a double with the bases loaded is better than a home run, because the grand slam would "kill the rally." And I've heard people say JUST THAT.
  3. Of course. The Sox and their fans have always been obsessed with the Cubs and understandably so. They're Chicago's red-headed step child.
  4. I don't recall Dusty doing anything this smart. Estes was still starting games in late September. I remember a skipped start or two, but I know for a fact that he started a game in the early Sept 5 game series with the Cards and that HUGE game he won for us in Cincinnati (which I was at). EDIT - I guess a couple skipped starts constitutes what you were saying. I'm still bitter about Dusty trotting him out every 5th day for most of that season. It drove me nuts that Cruz wouldn't get some starts in his place.
  5. The quality start statistic is so stupid. 3 ER in 6 IP = 4.50 ERA Is that really what anyone would consider "quality" pitching? From the worst pitcher on my squad? I'll take it from my #5. I'll accept it, but I won't like it.

  7. LOL, nice edit. And yes.. Marquis sucks... Your 3 and 4 really play into one another, because DeRosa (and Murton) can keep Floyd out of the lineup (preferably more often than not). Personally, I'd play less Fontenot, more Murton in RF and DeRosa at 2B...but I'm not sure if Lou is willing to go that way. BTW, was anybody else wondering what the hell Lou was doing when he moved Ronny to 2B when he brought in Theriot? I mean, the only explanation I can see is that he didn't want Riot to get thrown off by playing a different position than he's playing everyday. As for catcher, we're gonna either have to call up Soto, or hope that Kendall recaptures something for the next two months. Hill is flat out garbage but will continue to get AB's, nothing we can do there.
  8. Luckily, fans have no impact on the outcome of games and are allowed to celebrate early and get ahead of themselves as much as they want.
  9. I'm sorry, I know this overlooks most of your post, but this point of view is really starting to bother me. Come down to our level? We've been the best team in baseball for two months with a .653 winning percentage. Sure, the Brewers have cooled off, but we have charged and charged hard after a disastrous start. One of my bigger pet peeves lately has been people, Cubs fans especially, trying to short-change what they've been doing. As an aside, I agree that this team has holes...some that look like they can be filled from within. Hopefully they are, because there aren't many options, otherwise.
  10. Well, the Phillies were the FIRST to reach 10,000 losses.
  11. http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2007-08/31584429.jpg "Hey Griese, catch!"
  12. and we all know how that ended. damn you Steve! http://img394.imageshack.us/img394/4853/cartangrymc0.gif Whoah.. And the guy who screwed us in 03 (you know, besides Alex freakin Gonzalez) was also named Steve. Creepy.
  13. Luckily, there really aren't any of those in the National League.
  14. I'd like to reach 60 wins before we lose our 50th. Make it happen, guys.
  15. David

    90 wins?

Figured it was time for an update. It'd be nice if they went on a mini-win streak again soon.. Maybe a 6 gamer, or so, just to put a dent into those wins and get somewhat comfortably over the 10 games over .500 mark.
  16. Aren't they home against the Mets too? We already played em at Shea. 4 games left in the homestand. Ah, gotcha.. I was looking at it as 4 games in after the last game against the Phils.

  18. Wow.. that's about as obscure as it gets.. Just curious, how'd you know that Jay Staggs was Ryan Church's cousin? (just looked it up)
  19. That seriously is the most ignorant statement ever. How did Milwaukee get better, Scott Linebrink? Have you forgotten that we have been consistently gaining on them for 2 months? My God. I am fairly certain they are still ahead of us even with there best pitcher on the dl. When he gets back there lead will go up again. They are a game ahead of us. Not long ago it was 8.5 games ahead of us. Notice a trend here? A middle reliever will not stop that trend from continuing. The Brewers are a horrible baseball team away from their home park. They are not a playoff caliber team, and a middle reliever won't help that, especially since any good he does for the team will be washed away when Cordero blows it for them. Not that I don't agree about the Cubs being the better team at this point, but I do believe he was referring to Ben Sheets, not any middle reliever.
  20. It's hard to see Church making it through the waiver wire...but anything can happen, I guess.
  21. See truffles post regarding 95% of the board having their period at the same time. Funny and true. Hah... I figured it was dkwg's attempt to call me out. Doesn't really bother me. Truffle's right, though. Wow, it really is obsession. I hope you wear a monitoring bracelet. Leave me alone. Right. Anyways.
  22. LOL "What the hell?" was my exact response, too.

  24. Wait, why is the waiting room thread locked? There was some good debate going on in there..
  25. You and I both know that the Cubs have played better than 55-49 and have an easier upcoming schedule than the one they've already played. Yes, there are reasons for pessimism, but the Cubs really should have no problem winning their division and are in contention for having the best record in the league and home field throughout the playoffs. Do I wish the Cubs had made a move for a bat? Yes. Am I going to have a doom and gloom, sky is falling attitude about the fact that they didn't? Nah. Do I think it's reasonable to have such an attitude? Not really, but to each his own.
