    Home field advantage is the most overrated thing in baseball. If anything, baseball is the only sport with a legit advantage in the rules for the home team. The last AB. Football has the noise factor when the home team is on defense. In basketball, it's probably the most overrated of all. But baseball actually has a home field advantage written right into the rules. Obviously, that doesn't apply in the case of the Cubs having a large fan base in AZ, and I doubt that the crowd being pro-Cub would make much, if any, difference.

    Seeing that, it really makes it that much more sickening that they didn't even make it to 90 wins. Wow.

    so... the magic number is what, 10? EDIT - I guess tied in the loss column, there can't really be one. But it's 11 including one game playoff. No, 10.. whatever I'm so confused.

    Has Bruce or anyone commented on the "MLB preventing Cuban buying the team" theory? Do you guys really think that Cuban would really attend a game and sit in the bleachers, if he had no chance at buying the team? It seems to me that the Tribune would want to get as much money as possible for the team, and that an owner like Cuban would be good for the league. The Cubs telling Comcast to keep him off the air certainly does nothing to dispute the idea. Several of the articles that dismiss practically any possibility that Cuban would be approved by the MLB owners cite league sources. Who knows what the hell that means, but the idea certainly seems to hold water. He only needs 75% approval, though, right? That means 23 teams in favor. We know Reinsdorf is a "no." I'd guess Angelos, too. Who else? I have to admit, I don't know a whole lot about the politics of MLB owners.

    It makes me sick that MLB can and will keep us from getting our guy.. (or the guy getting us, I guess). If Cuban went into this with a partner that has some local credibility and some clout with MLB, does anyone think that would make any difference in terms of his chances?

    I definitely wouldn't. This is another of those conventional wisdom statements that people continue to perpetuate that make no logical sense. It's the "home runs are rally killers" mindset.

    Oh, and now he's acting like Theriot's walk last night is vindication. What a loud mouth moron. I cannot stand Mike Murphy (and yet I listen to him, I know...It's the only local sports talk on at this time..I usually wait him out before B&B).... He's a nice little player, that's it.

    ROFL, Murph is on the Score right now on a rant about how much criticism he's gotten for saying Theriot is the team MVP. I was a little amazed to hear Bruce Miles agree with him on that, btw. Anyway, it's a flat out ridiculous claim and he deserves all the emails he's gotten. Now he's calling all his cronies onto the air that agree with him. Give me a freaking break. How can anybody even suggest that Theriot is more valuable to this team than Aramis, Lee, Soriano, or even DeRosa? Why do people love to make completely absurd hyperbolic statements like this? Theriot isn't any major league team's MVP.

    Voted to brand. Not that I care a whole lot about this or have ever been up in arms about the steroid issue, but it would be a pretty sweet FU to see this happen.

    Well, that's assuming that a higher walk rate is inherent to a strikeout pitcher. While that's often the case, I don't think it is necessarily so. Mark Prior (when he was healthy) was a prime example. You don't have to sacrifice k's to lower your BB rate. Mark Prior was a rare breed, though. I think it's pretty fair to say that high walk rates are inherent in strikeout pitchers, by and large.
