  1. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a315/Matt_2108/izturis.jpg Off topic, but I really miss those nameless home jerseys. I thought it was a good change when it was made in 05.
  2. This is insanity. We make the first two outs of the 2nd inning and everyone thinks it's a sign that they won't score a run the rest of the game? How do you guys do it? Isn't it stressful to be like that?
  3. I just came in here and I would've thought for sure we were losing this game. Then I saw the score. SOTO!
  4. Huh? EDIT- Nm, got it.. It's Waveland, though.
  5. Felix Pie. He has to develop and grow as a player somehow, you know? True. 99% of the time I agree with playing the young player. But what's he really going to gain from the 9 games left this year? Now isn't really the time to let him develop. At least Monroe has been halfway decent vs lefties. That said, I wouldn't be completely opposed playing Pie, I just don't think that at this point in the season it's a priority to develop him unless we feel like he would perform better than the alternative.
  6. I keep on forgetting Monroe's on the team. I wish Lou would, too. Meh, who would you start in CF against a lefty?
  7. I wouldn't at all mind to see this lineup in the playoffs. Not assuming anything, just sayin. With the possible exception of no Monroe. Right. Overlooked that. Jacque in CF against RHP. I guess Monroe still against LHP.

  9. That it should.
  10. thats a great point. i remember some of the cubs players already saying theyd love to have cuban as the owner. if they knew mlb screwed cuban, that couldnt work out well for the owners and mlb. But what would the repercussions be? Are the players going to strike if Cuban is muscled out? Are they going to hold a harder line during the next CB? Don't think so. Its all a PR standpoint, the players have no leverage in this situation because they won't do anything if they don't get their way and the league knows that. yeah theres really gonna be no repercussions. itll probably be just some bad feelings from the fans and players. and the league wont care about that in the first place. don't forget that there is this govermental body, chaired by Arlen Specter, called the SEC. Specter is on record as being in favor of revoking MLB's anti-trust exemption. additionally, the Tribune Co. owes a fiduciary responsibility to stockholders to maximize profits, which would include any sale of assets (the Cubs/ Wrigley). the Cubs are owned, and are being sold by a corporate entity, therefore, MLB's hands may very well be tied this time. MLB, Selig, and concerned lawyers are well aware of this fact. stay tuned. Cuban is fully in play, imho... EDIT: I misspoke. Specter is not the current chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission. However, Specter, and Senator John Kerry, remain interested by-standers, and influential players in this scenario. I'm not questioning you in any way, just looking for reason to feel more confident in your opinion, if anything, but the bolded sort of makes it sound like you know something. Are you somebody who knows something? Or are you just a guy who knows about this kind of stuff? Does what I'm asking make sense to anyone else?
  11. Whatever the reason, I'm just extremely happy they didn't let him face Dunn with a one run lead.
  12. There's definitely evidence to fuel the speculation in both cases, though. Especially in terms of Cuban being a serious bidder.
  13. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200409300.shtml One of them was. But we had already screwed the pooch pretty bad by that point.
  14. Seeing that, it really makes it that much more sickening that they didn't even make it to 90 wins. Wow. nothing like going 3-7 in your final 10 to screw the pooch 2-7 in last 9. I remember the helpless feeling when we kept losing to the Reds because we couldn't score a damn run. I felt absolutely sick.
  15. Seeing that, it really makes it that much more sickening that they didn't even make it to 90 wins. Wow. nothing like going 3-7 in your final 10 to put screw the pooch Just amazing...That team couldn't get it together. Oh they got it together. Then they dropped it all.
  16. Home field advantage is the most overrated thing in baseball. If anything, baseball is the only sport with a legit advantage in the rules for the home team. The last AB. Football has the noise factor when the home team is on defense. In basketball, it's probably the most overrated of all. But baseball actually has a home field advantage written right into the rules. Obviously, that doesn't apply in the case of the Cubs having a large fan base in AZ, and I doubt that the crowd being pro-Cub would make much, if any, difference.

  18. so... the magic number is what, 10? EDIT - I guess tied in the loss column, there can't really be one. But it's 11 including one game playoff. No, 10.. whatever I'm so confused.
  19. Can't bring in Veres to face Lowell instead of Guthrie. Dude, they got Lennie Harris on the bench.
  20. Has Bruce or anyone commented on the "MLB preventing Cuban buying the team" theory? Do you guys really think that Cuban would really attend a game and sit in the bleachers, if he had no chance at buying the team? It seems to me that the Tribune would want to get as much money as possible for the team, and that an owner like Cuban would be good for the league. The Cubs telling Comcast to keep him off the air certainly does nothing to dispute the idea. Several of the articles that dismiss practically any possibility that Cuban would be approved by the MLB owners cite league sources. Who knows what the hell that means, but the idea certainly seems to hold water. He only needs 75% approval, though, right? That means 23 teams in favor. We know Reinsdorf is a "no." I'd guess Angelos, too. Who else? I have to admit, I don't know a whole lot about the politics of MLB owners.
  21. "Assume" instead of "as soon" added to the list Minus whale
  22. It makes me sick that MLB can and will keep us from getting our guy.. (or the guy getting us, I guess). If Cuban went into this with a partner that has some local credibility and some clout with MLB, does anyone think that would make any difference in terms of his chances?
