  1. I'm not gonna click... but let me guess... A parody of Rihanna's Umbrella? Seems like the title would fit with the song.
  2. Online somewhere? Or did you have it TiVo'd? mlb.tv archived games have been free for a while now. Friggin sweet. I had forgotten about that.

  4. Wow.. that is a sweet angle. They got the date wrong on the description, though, haha.
  5. Read into that what you will. I don't think it's unreasonable to take from that that he said something along those lines. Or Meacham could just be exaggerating/overreacting. Who knows?
  6. That's hard to say. The majority of the players don't have the reputation of Milton Bradley so they wouldn't be in that situation. Whatever the case the Padres knew what they were getting when they got Bradley, and you've seen first hand why he has a bad rep. At the worst possible time of the year... That almost sounds like your trying to imply that Bradley's reputation is reason for the umpire to say to him what he allegedly said. It doesn't help his case... Come on, so you're implying that the umpires actions are understandable and Bradley's are reprehensible? If we are to believe the initial reports, it's pretty clear that the guy in a position of authority yelling out racial slurs was in the wrong. Shouldn't the ump be the one that should suck it up and be a man? If someone should be held to higher standards, it's him. Bradley just acknowledged a fan that thought the ump made a bad call, and the ump went off at him. Of course he should. But he wasn't the one jumping up and down like a two year old now was he? No. He was the one allegedly yelling racial slurs at a known hot head and the one who essentially instigated the encounter.
  7. This one is really awesome. Especially since it's got _______ ____ in it.
  8. Great pics. Love the shot of the bleachers.

  11. That.
  12. I think if we gave him $20 million and part ownership of the team he'd bite. Steinbrenner won't give him part of the Yankees. It's not happening. It can't. No point in even mentioning it anymore. Irresponsible journalism by whoever reported it.
  13. This is exactly why I was against bringing Bradley to the Cubs. Being a huge moron more than offsets a good OPS. Considering what it appears was said, I think Milton's actions can be understood, if not justified.
  14. I'll raise you on the fun content: yours truly on Cubs.com on 1/8/2004: favorite darkhorse Cub prospects 8-) Hah... also from that thread
  15. THERE WE GO... LAUGH IN THE FACE OF JINXES AND TEMPTING FATE. I love it! You did what I was dying to do but didn't feel like taking heat for.
  16. Hmm...I don't know how much credit should go to Lou here. I'm sure he has a lot of input on which minor leaguers to bring up, and the Cubs didn't want anything to do with Soto most of the year, instead preferring to trade for Kendall and give Koyie Hill far too much PT. Soto got called up because he was the league MVP, and he's playing everyday because even Lou can't sit a guy that's hitting near .500 and hitting just about everything that's thrown his way. I'll give Lou credit for a lot of things, but I think Soto forced this with his performance. I think any manager could justify using Kendall over Soto without taking a lot of heat for it. He wouldn't be right, but he wouldn't take much heat. It'd be the old, "Well the kid is hot, but you have to go with the seasoned vet in a pennant race." Especially at a position like catcher, where people seem more inclined to over-value defense (not that I don't think Soto is better than Kendall at that, anyway) and "veteran savvy and leadership." Hell, Plesac was on the radio the other day saying that if it were up to him, he'd rather have Kendall starting than Soto.
  17. I wouldn't call it hurting the Cubs. I would call the help to the Brewers in the season and the hurting of the Padres in the playoffs about equal as far as the Cubs are concerned. Gotta get there first, man-dinga  But I do see your point. True. But I'd say the odds of Bradley hurting the Cubs if the Pads and Cubs met up in the playoffs were better than any chance the Brewers have to knock the Cubs off. It's over. If we blow it in some absurdly epic fashion, you can all blame me. Hell, I almost feel inclined to really laugh in fate's face and post the pictures of the Cubs division champ gear in that other thread. ;)
  18. I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way. Just addressing how much of a pet peeve of mine this idea has been all year. I honestly don't even see the point of bringing up the Pie/Soriano thing. No offense, CCP, I just think the idea is ridiculous and deserves about as much credence as talk of witchcraft, curses, and jinxes. Any correlation I entirely attribute to pure coincidence (and I'm sure you, and most people here, do too). The only reason I was curious as to the numbers since June 3rd minus the Sori injury is because, for whatever reason, the team really seemed to turn the corner at that point in the season, and missing their most productive outfielder for like 3 weeks during that span was a big blow.
  19. Yea, I'm really glad Lou has given him a chance. The situation is so similar to the Estes/Cruz situation in 03, where Dusty pretty much refused to give in all season (although he did skip a few Estes starts in Sept). Actually, I feel like that would've been an easier move to make, since Estes was far more abysmal than Kendall has been as a Cub.
  20. Where do you see that? It was up there last night. Can't find it anymore myself, though, either.
  21. Well, if I was wrong, I wasn't that far off... I think I excluded the Mets game. So that accounts for one. Thanks
  22. In case anyone cared, I bothered to figure it out myself. 52-30 since June 3rd excluding the time Soriano was hurt. Not a bad win total at all for 82 games. .634 clip EDIT.. that seems not right, though... let me check again
  23. Since we were citing the ever important since-June 3rd record for the longest time, and since it seemed like the only time we really slowed down was while Soriano was hurt... What is the Cubs' record/winning %age this year since June 3rd, excluding the time while Soriano was on the DL?
  24. Catching up? I know I'm biased to a point, because I'm of a younger generation that never saw Santo play, but I'd say that the Ramirez we have right now at least matches up (I hate to say better/worse because it's tough to compare eras) with Santo in his prime. Whether Ram puts up an entire career to match up/exceed Santo's remains to be seen, but I'd say he's pretty well on his way with the way he has performed since 2004. It would take a lot of durability, though, and he still has a ways to go.
