  1. Well, we're Cubs fans, lol...and I don't want to see Philly (or Cole Hamels), so if the Rockies are a worse matchup for them, even better. On top of that, I don't want to face that San Diego staff or see our bats get stifled in Petco. I think, the way our bats have come around in terms of power (even in FL, think of all the near misses in the huge park and humidity) we can more than hang in a Coors slugfest with these guys. Plus, facing COL we'd have home field in the NLCS, which would be a little icing on the cake. We would in SD too. Colorado's pitching is now better than San Diego's, and they have two really good lefties. Their hitters would do well against the Cubs' pitching too. Gotta take Peavy out. True, I should've worded that better, but if the Pads are so depleted, what makes us think they can beat the Phils? Of primary importance to me is getting them out of the equation.
  2. Yes, the Padres are clearly the inferior team. I don't understand why so many are hoping for a Rockies-Cubs potential NLCS. Well, fine, even if you feel that way... Would you rather face the Rockies or Phillies? If the Pads are so depleted, and won't be able to start Peavy twice, do they really stand much of a chance against Phil? I sure as hell don't want to face Philadelphia. I know that much.

  4. Tell me why you're rooting for the Rockies again? I want HFA in the NLCS, I don't want to face Peavy or Young (despite his second half struggles) or the rest of their league leading pitching staff... And I feel like our lineup can do a lot more damage in Coors than in Petco now that the power bats have seemingly found their way.
  5. Does anyone think our offense could do some major damage in 3 games in Coors field now that they seem to have found their power strokes? I'd be worried about our pitchers, though...Especially Hill and Lilly. Remember how amazingly awesome Prior was at Coors?
  6. I think I could die happy if I never saw another player on a team I'm rooting for slide/dive into first again.
  7. Colorado... and, I dunno.. there would be a lot of drama to a Cubs vs. Red Sox or Yanks World Series... I honestly couldn't care less who we'd face in the WS, how about that.... :D
  8. And Lee and Nomar. Not at that point. 2005 Lee, for sure.
  9. Has nothing to do with what you posted... but everytime I read one of your posts, I think you're the dude with the bloody nose in your av. I wonder if you guys think I'm a famous young hot girl. sorry, did you say something? I was staring at your Rusch's hahha
  10. Oh, and if it were up to me, in that lineup, I would've swapped CPatt and Walker, FWIW.

  12. Screw that...It's CF Patterson 1B Lee SS Garciaparra LF Alou RF Sosa 3B Ramirez 2B Walker C Barrett (P Prior) Oh, wait.. Still my all time favorite on paper Cubs lineup... God, that's beautiful... despite Corey being horribly miscast as a leadoff man.

  14. It's a terrible argument. If he wants to ignore it he can. If you or I find that analysis makes baseball more enjoyable then that is fine also. I hate that argument. No one is holding a gun to his head, or saying that 20-game winners are bad pitchers. i can safely say that 1998 Kevin Tapani was a bad (almost) 20 game winner 2003 Russ Ortiz
  15. A) OK, fine. He's a $10 million man now. If you want to look at it that way, despite the rest of the money allocated to him over the year's, it's fine. But just keep in mind how bad it's going to look when he's making a king's ransom to be a 39 year old bench player. The money will be going to him, inevitably. That behemoth of a contract is untradeable (unless we pay someone to take him off our hands later on). B) He's A reason we are in the playoffs. Not THE reason. Nor does this justify his salary. He was also a major reason we were on the brink of a disastrous season/collapse, since he was being paid for and counted on for great production, and he wasn't delivering. I'm fine with Sori this year and want him to do well. I'm a fan of his because he's on the Cubs and because he really came up big this last month for us. I just felt that these things needed to be pointed out.

No one is holding a gun to his head, or saying that 20-game winners are bad pitchers. Didn't say it was a good one. Just well spoken. Most of the time I come across an argument against the numbers, it's completely illogical and incoherent. At least this guy can (almost) admit that he's ok with being blind to the truth, and doesn't insist that his truth is right and the numbers are wrong. He just basically says he doesn't want to hear it and just wants to enjoy the game at face value.
  17. You could argue that this is a case of trying to be anti-East coast bias, in a way, though. The game start times are obviously meant to appease the AZ market and the fans who will be going to the game by giving them what would be a prime-time start over there. If, despite the game being on the west coast, they had set this game for a 7 CT start, it would've, in a sense, been indicative of an eastern (don't want to say east coast, in this case) bias. Games don't normally start at 5 PM over there. who in Arizona are they trying to appease by having the Sunday game be at 10am Arizona time? Yea. That's pretty crappy.
  18. Yea, that Sunday noon start does suck.

  20. I'll buy a pennant for as far as we go...I've got them for every playoff year from 84 forward...they cover a large portion of my basement wall. lawl.. Small wall, amirite?
  21. lawl...Good one liner from Stone just now. A caller called in and mentioned how Hub had said this and how stupid it was. Stone - "Right. Well, Hub does football." It was funny at the time, trust me.
  22. It could also have a lot to do with the run differential and the perception that AZ has done it with smoke and mirrors all year. A few of those guys, namely Neyer, aren't exactly dumb. I suppose, I'd need to hear it specifically though. Because it seems like every time I turn on these talking heads they always pick either 1) last year's winner, or 2) the team with the most "veteran presence." It's like a script, just follow along and don't deviate. Definitely. I'm not gonna argue with that. There's a few guys there (like Phillips) who would probably use that exact crap reasoning.

  24. It's not just people going to the game or the marathon. It's a city-wide concern for all commuters. It's certainly not anywhere near ideal. It's going to be hell to get around.
  25. Um, yea. I'm always late to the party.
