  1. Why? They aren't that good. The Diamondbacks are worse.
  2. They're the sexy choice. And I don't understand why. The Cubs got their butts handed to them by every NL contender not named Milwaukee. I think they can win the series, but I don't see how they can be considered the favorite. Sure, the rest of the country seems to want to see the Cubs win, because of the story, but I don't see how that makes them the favorite. Have you seen the Diamondbacks' roster? I'm pretty sure they have Augie Ojeda getting regular PT. The run differential thing has been played to death, so I won't even go there, but yea....
  3. They're the sexy choice. Eh. Maybe for ESPN, but BP wouldn't be picking them if they didn't really think they should win.
  4. He asked you to help him combat his pessimism - I don't think that channeling the ghost of managers past as your source of optimism is the way to do that. Have a heart and lie to the guy, or make something up. He could just read the very well supported BP article referenced in this very thread.
  5. I'm staying at a cheap motel not far from Wrigley. It's only costing me $65 a night. Of course, I think I'm going to bring my own sheets. At that price, I'm not sure what the bed will look like. What's the name of the hotel? Sheffield House. Dear god, I'm reading some reviews of that place online now. It's scaring me. As I said, I'm bringing my own sheets. Just so you guys know, that review in Spanish at the bottom... http://chicago-hotels.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g35805-d123217-Reviews-Sheffield_House-Chicago_Illinois.html That basically says "There were bugs in the bed." Oh, and "I didn't have a very nice night." LOL
  6. Nevermind.. Different days. Can we get that in the game thread titles?
  7. I didn't figure TBS would do different broadcasts regionally, but I guess so.
  8. How are both this and the other ALDS game on at the same time and the same network?
  9. That's such a long time. You would think if it had been so long, it just wouldn't happen ever again. I wonder if there's anything else that hasn't happened since the early 1900's that can be repeated this season... :-k Yea, that's sort of the direction I was trying to lead you to. :)
  10. I think I read, in an article that Silver linked to in his series preview article (from Washington Post, maybe?), that no team has outperformed their pythag to the extent that the D'Backs did since the early 1900's.
  11. They aren't sweeping this one. I think it goes to 5. This is the same DBacks team I couldn't wait to get away from earlier in the year. They went to Milwaukee and got destroyed, then they came to us and inexplicably played out of their minds. I hate this freaking team. Not only for their ridiculous bucking of reality, but also because they're like the Marlins: they have no fans, so they wait for someone else to provide the excitement then they beat you. They're baseball leeches. No way this series goes 5 games. It ends Saturday... MAYBE Sunday if Z can't get it done tonight.
  12. Personally, I would've gone Soriano, DeRosa, Lee, Ramirez, Floyd, Soto, Jones, Theriot But I can't complain too much. At least the right players are playing.
  13. Matt Morris? Or, better yet... Dave Littlefield?
  14. Not in the one game at the one moment in time when we needed him to be. Theriot wouldn't screw up that play. He's too scrappy. AGon was way more clutch though.
  15. He was never hitting that low...at least, not according to his splits nor as far as I remember. They had him in RF while Fontenot was getting regular time.
  16. I liked the DeRo signing from day one. Didn't agree with all the consternation in here (although I understood it) about him being signed off a career year. I felt like he was a Walkah who could field and play a bunch of positions.
  17. I'd argue that 2007 Aramis is significantly better than 2003 Aramis, both at the plate and in the field.
  18. Ah. Sad. He's normally not such a dumb guy.
  19. Which ESPN guy says that? Most of them are predicting the Cubs to win.
  20. Who? GEOVANY SOTO. OH
  21. Yea, us optimistic people are great at making predictions when things are going well.
  22. Who?
  23. I'm still trying to figure out the connection... :? Totally isn't one.... or is there? Nah, just felt like some randomness.
  24. I really miss going into the playoffs with that rotation and the confidence I had. We all know how that worked out, though. I guess I'll just have to settle for finding my comfort in the fact that the field is so weak.
