  1. So I emailed Rozner this morning... His well thought out reply...I love this argument, BTW, because it requires no factual support at all when it's used. At least, he replied. I'll give him that much.
  2. MLB has to approve ownership from the other 29 owners, I forget what the req'd ratio of approval has to be. As far as why, MLB is still a private entity and it helps to have backings to get into the good ole boy network. I assume most teams/owners don't want someone with the personality or the willingness of someone like Cuban owning a team. I think it's 75%, so, 22/29, I guess. Cuban said he has received some support from some owners already, but it seems like we would really need some help from owners that might be on the fence about him. I'm guessing, from what we've heard so far, that there's a good handful or so that are strongly opposed.
  3. Haha, he said if he owned the team he'd sit in the RF bleachers for the games.
  4. http://www.670thescore.com/episode_download.php?contentType=36&contentId=1056051 Basically said that he needs to see what assets are offered in the package, but if it's what he expects, he's definitely interested. He said that owning the Cubs would be a great opportunity and one that he can't pass up. Listen in for more. If that link doesn't work, they have a link to listen to the interview up on their main page at http://www.670thescore.com
  5. I'm surprised that this many people missed the obvious sarcasm in Sam's post.
  6. Done.
  7. I wouldn't say it's my worst nightmare, but I do fear that happening. I more than fear it...I'm resigned to the FACT it will happen. And SD seems like a likely place. I still think he will be our #5 next year, though. The Cubs will non-tender him. Bruce Miles says otherwise, so, unless you have some sort of source, it'd be nice if you stopped stating this as though it were a fact. I think it is pretty clear that this is my opinion only. Miles certainly has access. But are his statements more than his opinion based on what he knows? Based on the numbers involved, I can't the see the Cubs tendering him a contract. They might try to get him to bite on an incentive-laden two-year deal, but, in my opinion, he would never take that from the Cubs. Did Bruce comment on the board that Prior was going to be tendered? If so, that is good news. Bruce said it was likely Prior would be back next year in an article about a month back.

  9. ...we've likely seen the last of Jason Kendall in a Cubs uniform. GEOVANY SOTO!!!! Sorry if this was out of line.. I just got back from the game and I'm drunkkk... Oh, and I saw some thread about ARod not solving the Cubs' problems.. It's wrong. At least, on offense.
  10. We got swept in that series too didn't we? you're missing the point -- Enrique knew the stadium the rest of the team blew it for him God Bless Dusty Baker. I actually heard him say on the radio during the Indians Yankees game that he had managed twice in the World Series. Both times Lofton was on his team. You know with the Giants and Cubs. HAH, I heard that too. That's the difference between normal people like us exaggerating our accomplishments and someone like him doing it.
  11. Oh, God. That was CLASSIC.
  12. They weren't ridiculing him. They were blasting. And, in this case, to be honest, I think they're right. I'm going to take a lot of crap for saying it, but their point was entirely valid. Completely. Because this supposedly isn't' just a one time thing, either. If it were just him celebrating the win and having a beer, fine. Sure, the only harm he inflicts is on himself, but isn't it extremely hypocritical?
  13. better be 100%. But I'd say they are pretty good, at least. Yeah, I really have no idea. I could see somebody with authority thinking, "The key to the success of 2007 was forgetting about Prior and Wood, so let's just be done with it and let him go." I could see somebody say, "I'm not going to be suckered into losing money on a guy like that and I don't care if he does well elsewhere." I could also see them being 100% committed to trying to get the most out of him. It's like most things involving the offseason, depends on the sale. I'm hoping for 75%, but I'm worried it's no better than 50/50. On the plus side, Bruce indicated in an article in August that he's expected to be back. And the clueless Gordon Whittenmeyer (sp?) was one of the guys who early on suggested that the Cubs would just let him go rather than pay him again.
  14. I've also taken these losses easier than I did 03 or 04. But the thing is, I feel like it's got more to do with the team than anything else. I really, really liked those teams. I really, really liked that we had a scary pitching staff with 3-4 number one or number two quality starters. I don't know, I just feel like I'd be taking this a lot worse if it were one of those teams.
  15. On the opposite side of things.. How amazing would it be if the Cubs managed to win this series after being down 2-0... It would be like a very poor man's version of what the BoSox did in 2004, seeing as how they did it in a 7 game series (for the first time ever), against their chief rival, and went on to win the World Series...
  16. I think he's been in AZ this whole time, which is why we've seen him when the Cubs have been over there.
  17. I just need to point out one thing... Coming back from 2-0 in a best of 5 is by no means a miracle. The Phils will have it tougher having lost their first two home games, but it's been done before, a few times. It's not nearly as hard as coming back from 3-0 in a best of 7.
  18. ...I was sort of drunk last night... Was Prior at the game with the team or did I dream that?
  19. Wow.. So, conceivably, he could have his fastball back sometime next summer?
  20. What's the timetable technically for effective pitching after Prior's surgery? Is there any chance, barring a miracle, that he'd have decent velocity by next season? I'm trying to remember how long it took Carpenter to come out and pitch well.
  21. The one I remember most was the 2003 A's/BoSox series. Wasn't that the one when Damon was carted off the field not knowing which team he was playing for (I believe in game 5)?
  22. Well the 4 teams to do it are the 2003 Red Sox, the 2001 Yankees, the 1999 Red Sox and the 1995 Mariners. 2003 Red Sox lost in the ALCS 2001 Yankees lost in the World Series 1999 Red Sox lost in the ALCS 1995 Mariners lost in the ALCS So 0 Eh my bad. I meant the series they were playing in, not the World Series. Bad wording on my part. In other words, it's a roundabout way of asking how much better we're looking if we win tomorrow...
  23. I don't know. Didn't he hit some balls extremely hard in game one? It's really hard for me to say that so and so hasn't played well when you're talking about one or two games...but that's just me. And I understand, it's the playoffs.
  24. Can we just change this misleading thread title already? Lilly was never going to go on 3 days rest.
  25. It seems almost inevitable that the Cubs will win games 3 and 4, and then lose in 5, becoming the first team down 2-0 to force a game 5 and lose.
