  1. Just imagine if I signed up at OriolesHangout as another resident Cubs fan. That'd throw them the hell off.
  2. It would be really, really nice to slot him into the rotation instead of Dempster.
  3. FWIW, I tried changing my name once or twice, but my Tim never replied to my PM's. It seemed like everyone was changing their names around here about a year ago. How the hell did you guys do it?
  4. I don't know. I was hoping there'd be enough of the Cubs fans, like myself, who couldn't give two craps about the Sox that it would sort of mitigate that effect.
  5. I was hoping my av would help people separate us. Or at least the few times I've argued with him on here.
  6. You might be right. I was getting a kick out of thinking about how those people would take this. I should start referring to myself in the 3rd person. davhern loves davhern
  7. Whereas, if he signs elsewhere, this thread will blow up like nobody's ever seen. If a = posts in this thread after we sign Fukudome, 10a = posts in this thread if the Pads sign him, and 20a = posts in this thread if the Sox get him...
  8. So, at 200+ views and no replies, I guess it's safe to say nobody here has ever heard of anything regarding this? I wonder where davearm is getting this. Could he have his own sources?
  9. Jobs should never have to be earned or decided in ST. I can put up with it for a 25th man situation, but it's just foolish to base a starting job on ST performance. I'll take seasons and hundreds of PA's worth of minor league performance over stats produced in the absurd circumstances of a month of ST.
  10. Felix Pie. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here...
  11. Then why are some players considered "AAAA"? Because people sometimes don't understand baseball. To be fair, there are players whose skill-sets for whatever reason are more conducive to minor league baseball and can never figure it out at the MLB level. We all know this. These are the guys that wind up being labeled AAAA players. These are usually players, however, who tear up AAA and AA at what would be the prime major league years, which is partly why they do so well. Success in AAA or AA at age 27 or 28 doesn't mean a whole lot...right? That said, by and large, great minor league success (with age and league taken into consideration) eventually will translate into major league success.
  12. Thought I'd start a separate thread on this, since I hadn't heard about this before. This is posted by davearm (one of our posters here) in the insider thread (about Roberts, Tejada, and Bedard) at OriolesHangout.... Had anyone heard this before? Edit - Forgot to post a link to discussion... Post #198 http://orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55989&page=14 I'd be curious to hear what davearm has to say about it if he's around. It's definitely an interesting scenario.
  13. I don't understand this blatant disregard for minor league numbers as if they are meaningless. Wow. When taken into account along with age and the league that's being played in, they're an extremely useful way of predicting a player's major league performance. People want to just toss them aside and say, "Tell me what he's done at the major league level." I can't even comprehend it.
  14. It's like talking to a brick wall. Age relative to league, people. It's extremely key.
  15. Man, I really would like to see what Ronny could do with another chance at an extended look in the majors.
  16. This is a logical fallacy. The 2007 Cubs didn't win because of Ryan Theriot. The numbers show that they won in spite of him. He just happened to be the SS on that team. That's not a good enough reason to support continued poor play from his position. If you are playing a SIM game, sure it is. Baseball is a team game - Theriot was the starting SS. He helped them win. The Cubs will be a better team with a better SS. Cedeno was not that better SS in 2007. Maybe he will be in 2008. Never have I said that I wanted the Cubs to stick with Theriot and not improve at SS. I have argued that Theriot was the best SS the Cubs had in 2007. Until proven otherwise, he is still the best the Cubs have. What does this all even mean? If we want to play that game, the Cubs would have been a better team in September had they benched Theriot and gone with Ronny. Ronny was the better player in September.
  17. They don't care about ages. They could care less that Cedeno's numbers completely destroy Theriot's minor league numbers (even when Theriot was hitting RH only) while Theriot was playing in the same leagues a few year's older. Let's completely ignore the career/age progression that just about every baseball player makes because Theriot has already proven he can be a less than mediocre player at the ML level at age 27. Let's not take that into account at all. But hey, maybe Theriot finally figured out at the ML level at age 27 what he couldn't in the minors.
  18. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, WHY IS THIS EVEN AN ARGUMENT? THERIOT IS A TERRIBLE OPTION AS A MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM'S STARTING SHORTSTOP. END OF STORY.
  19. Seriously? Just strikes me as odd people would even care. We've quashed a number of nicknames for people like Corey Patterson and Glendon Rusch as well. There's a point where nicknames cross the line from being funny and clever, to immature and childish, and even more so...annoying. Think of this as a general rule: if it's in the word filter, it's there for a reason. Don't try to avoid it by getting cute with the spelling. I love the irony of this coupled with the fact that Rusch is used by the word filter as a substitute for an "obscenity." It's used for that obscenity because that obscenity was used as a nickname for Rusch. Rusch pitched like crap today. Rusch pitched like crap today. So it's like "Marquis pitched like Rusch today"? :D More like... look at those nice Rusch in my avatar.

It's just funny a couple years later now when that word is thrown around sometimes in Social.
  21. This.
  22. Ah, that explains it. I was in Florida that time of year.
  23. What's a DIPS?
  24. BTW, don't forget the ever-clever "Dumpster."
