  1. I don't want him for any rational reason, I'll admit. I want him for the purely irrational desire to get Soriano out of the leadoff spot. I know that lineup positioning matters little, and that Soriano really isn't a terrible option as a leadoff hitter, but there's just a little bit of that conventional wisdom ingrained in me that wants him in the late-middle of the order. I feel like Roberts would play a big role in getting that done. Plus, if you really are so sure that DeRosa will regress to the mean next year, wouldn't Roberts be a pretty good upgrade there? All that said, I'd be more excited about a trade for a new SS than I would be about Roberts. Soriano will likely still leadoff, just now Roberts will hit second instead of Theriot. I don't think so, despite what the reports may or may not be saying. I guess we'd just have to wait and see on that, though.
  2. Plus, as everyone else has said, Roberts is pretty much an inevitability if the Orioles don't change their minds about trading him. Might as well just accept it. When I first heard the rumor last week, I was thinking, "WTF, another second baseman rumor??!" Now it's more like, "OK, why not?"

  4. OK, time to get Roberts.
  5. This reminded me of a clip of Johnny Red Kerr that Boers and Bernstein play now and then. He goes "You know who he reminds me of?"... Larivee or Dore ask, "Who?" Red's response, "I forgot." I LOLed.
  6. Um, yea. That would be ridiculous. Where'd you get a hold of PECOTA on him already, BTW?
  7. "Toolsy" prospects aren't exactly up Beane's alley, IMO. Especially not ones like Colvin, in particular. In fact, they're pretty much the opposite of what he likes (guys who have produced in the minors who don't necessarily have "tools" in the traditional sense). That said, I hope it is for Blanton.
  8. No. Levine is pretty solid. and the other Bruce is superb, also. Eh, Levine has definitely been somewhat of a whipping boy on here. Most people don't grant him a whole lot of credibility because he reported that a big move was near in 05 or 06 and nothing ever happened. Not that I agree with that sentiment, though, but Truffle was probably thinking of the right guy. I liked you better when you were davhern. lawl

  10. Well the Yanks don't have names on their jerseys, so Hideki doesn't do it either way.
  11. IS it Gonna be Kosuke or Fukudome? Why would it be his first name? American players warned him about his name during the WBC, I believe. Rumor has it, he decided then to use his first name.
  12. Well, the insiders at OriolesHangout have been reporting all day that a big trade is about to go down. They said medical records have been traded between the O's and Dodgers and that Bedard has been informed of a trade. If that happens, they believe the way will then be cleared for a Roberts to the Cubs deal.
  13. loooool WTF at "heavily favored nation treatment"
  14. Not that that is completely insane, but why would you ever go to the Cubs.com boards, period?
  15. Why don't we just forget Figgins and sign Lofton? Or just Pie or Murton (whichever is kept) or DeRosa...
  16. Bruce, I hate to be one of those guys treating your appearances like a press conference (though you graciously don't seem to mind it!), but I'm just curious as to whether there's any truth to the rumor that the Cubs are interested in Blanton. EDIT to make sense
  17. According to the dudes on the Comcast Sports show a few minutes ago, Dan Plesac said earlier today that he felt Fukudome and Roberts were an "either or proposition" and that the Cubs wouldn't go after both of them. Which led to a discussion of which one would you prefer and a lot of discussion on how much Fuk's Japanese stats should be discounted. I think Plesac is way off on that. Makes no sense.
  18. Has this point been touched on yet? It's not saying alot as I can't remember many big free agents the Padres have been in on, but it looks like Fukudome's going to get way more than he should. To answer your question, that's probably about the thousand and tenth time I've read that quote.
  19. Am I the only one who previously had no idea what the hell a merkin was?
  20. So would I. Hell, I've been paying for it and haven't gotten anything for a few weeks.
  21. I love mixing my excessively verbose writing style with profanity. This is the only forum I frequent where I can't.
