  1. Meph's seemingly irrational distaste for Pie considering Pie's numbers seems really out of character. I'm surprised there's really no argument being made. His numbers appear to say he doesn't suck, but whatever.
  2. Figgins will be 30 come opening day. Fukudome is 30 and will be 31 for most of next season. Roberts is 30. I just wish some of the guys we're pursuing would be in the 26-28 range..
  3. Wrigleyville's ire aside, LaTroy was pretty good for the Cubs and has been pretty good through most of his career (since 2002, at least).
  4. Figgins would be alright, but why can't we go after players on the right side of 30?
  5. The offense is still a more pressing area of need.
  6. Two (well, three) words to answer your question: speedy switch-hitter
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=winter_meetings Think we could work out a 3-way with the O's and Angels that ends up with Miguel in Anaheim and Roberts in chicago? Yes. Someone posted a deal earlier that made perfect sense. No. I'm not sure what I (or some of you guys) is missing here, but haven't Hendry and Lou made themselves perfectly clear that Theriot will, in about 99% likelihood, be our SS? I'm extremely confused here in trying to figure out what your comments have to do with what you quoted. #-o
  8. I sense a new word filter is upon us! I'm not sure referring to people as "flippy dippys" is really much better. Calling them Glendon Rusches isn't much better, either.
  9. WAIT WAIT WAIT....AND BEDARD??? ARE WE GETTING BEDARD???? I don't think he was really implying that nor do I see us getting him. It's not news that the Orioles are looking to have a fire sale, Bedard included.
  10. If the source for the Tejada to the Stros deal being done is the Cubs.com boards, I wouldn't get too worried yet. Who's worried? I hope they trade some young pitching for a $13 million man in decline who is currently a below average defender at his position. Let them try to outscore us in a Rich Hill - Woody Williams matchup. I want the deal to get done so Andy can get on with the business of trading Roberts to us. I'm only worried that it's NOT true. I just meant in terms of his belief that the next domino would be a Roberts trade possibly involving Sean to the Orioles. I'm not really worried about the Astros getting Tejada, even though I would love him on the Cubs.

  12. I'm not big on stolen bases whatsoever, but at his success rate (80% career, 88% last year), wouldn't Roberts' SB contribution be a somewhat significant factor in terms of improving our offense next year?
  13. Greene is absolutely destoyed by playing at Petco. It is the best pitcher's park in MLB by a huge, huge margin. Away from home, he's a solid .800+ guy. Greene would be an excellent #6 hitter for us. That would allow you to hit Soto 7th - much less pressure. It would cause me a lot of gastrointestinal distress to trade Pie, but, with Colvin in the system, I would probably do it for Greene. Greene's power numbers on the road have certainly been impressive, but we can't discount his OBP struggles: Road splits 2004: .301/.353/.543/.896 2005: .244/.308/.465/.773 2006: .280/.356/.507/.863 2007: .288/.322/.519/.841 Not that I'd complain about having those numbers towards the bottom of our order, of course. Well his average IsoD based on that has been 56.5. Not great, but not terrible. 2007 was his worst year in those terms, though.
  14. Same here. I was all for Cuban, then when he financed that movie I fell off his bandwagon real quick. Wouldn't at all say I'm off his bandwagon, though.
  15. Check out Greene's home/road splits. He hits a ton of fly balls and Petco really has a drastic effect on his numbers.
  16. Where did you hear this? I don't remember hearing this rumor. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45206&p=1589912&hilit=greene#p1589912
  17. All that excitement last night turns out to be for nothing. We need some Cubs' news already. We're all going crazy. Eh, not for nothing. It still looks pretty possible that we'll end up with Roberts based on that. Just won't get the instant gratification we all want. Either way, opening day's 4 months away.
  18. Tim, you really think they'd start DeRo at SS in that scenario? I sure hope so...
  19. Are we really looking at Fukudome as a middle of the order hitter? Not that lineup positioning matters all that much as long as your worst guys are at the bottom, but it really "feels" like he should be more of a 2 hitter than anything else.
  20. If we got Roberts and Fukudome, I'd be really on board the Pie for Greene bandwagon. I don't love the idea of going with DeRosa as the full time option in RF if we kept Theriot at SS, though.
  21. Adam Everett, Chris Burke, and a PITCHER? Even if the pitcher is a promising young prospect, we can TOTALLY outmatch that. I'm pretty sure Bruce said that the reason we're not pursuing Tejada is his salary. He made no mention of us not being able to match the Orioles' asking price.
