  1. Only way this makes any sense is if there is a really hard line limit on payroll for this year and Hendry has some deals on the table that would use up all of it. That's the only possible justification for not taking this gamble. Oh well, good luck, Mark. Hopefully, you'll go to the AL.
  2. I'm not saying that they actually will trade for him. We have no reason to believe they will. I am saying that they should, however. That said, I posted earlier expressing my opinion on the viewpoint above..
  3. I'd be all for it as well, but it's hard to how it could happen without Rich included. That's fine Zambrano Bedard Lilly Marquis Dempster/Marshall is good for me. All things considered, I'd rather have Hill than Bedard.
  4. It's really that simple. On top of that, Greene is better than Theriot by a far wider margin than Roberts is better than DeRosa. That other stuff about lineup positioning, while nice to think about, is pretty insignificant. This team + Greene instead of Theriot would score more runs than this team + Roberts instead of DeRosa.
  5. A few people have stated that the Pads wouldn't deal with the Cubs because of sour grapes about losing out on Fukudome. That sounds completely outlandish to me. Maybe it's true, but any GM that would base personnel decisions on emotions like this doesn't deserve his job.
  6. Not gonna lie, he made a really compelling case. I never realized Greene's splits were that dramatic. On top of it, I just want some upgrade, ANY upgrade at SS.
  7. Theriot. Khalil Greene will start No offense to you in particular, but why is everyone so nuts about the average SS Khalil Green? First of all, even if he were average, that would be a huge upgrade over Theriot. Second, away from PetCo, he'll be well above average.
  8. I'd love to make a (modest) wager on this. Count me in, too.
  9. Hmm, that's an important point in this Prior debate. First, we hear a couple weeks ago that Prior hasn't started throwing off a mound yet, which means he is behind schedule from what he was hoping originally. Now, the Padres see the medical reports and aren't pleased with them. He could be even further behind at this point. Padres probably want him to be non-tendered so they can swoop in and pick him up. Sun-Times today say that Prior is still doing fine in his rehab and is throwing off flat ground from 90 feet. Said that his ETA would be around May (surgery was in April of this year) but that you could tack on a few months if you wanted to be conservative. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/692470,CST-SPT-prior12.article
  10. It takes about a year to return to the mound. He had his surgery in spring of 07...
  11. That's an assumption. But him coming back and pitching 10-15 starts isn't? I think I have his past history on my side of the assumption while the other side of it is wishful thinking. It's not an assumption or wishful thinking. It's a gamble that's well worth making considering the potential return. I don't think you'll find anyone here saying otherwise.
  12. Isn't that conclusion inherently problematic since defensive metrics are considered suspect at best?
  13. Welcome to the forum! :D lawl... thanks!
  14. Yea, can't agree with Meph on this one. Adam Everett is a sack of crap.
  15. I think more likely the wrench comes from the Orioles side. On one hand, it's been said that Andy needed to trade other guys before he could trade Roberts. On the other hand, once Angelos gives the OK for trading Tejada and Bedard, he can probably justify saying, okay, that's enough, we have to keep Roberts for PR reasons. Is Roberts that popular in Baltimore? Yes. He is a hit with the ladies and he also does a ton of work in the community. They love him in Baltimore. Has Angelos ever actually cared about PR? Angelos loves him too.
  16. He's extremely popular.
  17. I don't want him for any rational reason, I'll admit. I want him for the purely irrational desire to get Soriano out of the leadoff spot. I know that lineup positioning matters little, and that Soriano really isn't a terrible option as a leadoff hitter, but there's just a little bit of that conventional wisdom ingrained in me that wants him in the late-middle of the order. I feel like Roberts would play a big role in getting that done. Plus, if you really are so sure that DeRosa will regress to the mean next year, wouldn't Roberts be a pretty good upgrade there? All that said, I'd be more excited about a trade for a new SS than I would be about Roberts. Soriano will likely still leadoff, just now Roberts will hit second instead of Theriot. I don't think so, despite what the reports may or may not be saying. I guess we'd just have to wait and see on that, though.
  18. Plus, as everyone else has said, Roberts is pretty much an inevitability if the Orioles don't change their minds about trading him. Might as well just accept it. When I first heard the rumor last week, I was thinking, "WTF, another second baseman rumor??!" Now it's more like, "OK, why not?"

  20. OK, time to get Roberts.
  21. This reminded me of a clip of Johnny Red Kerr that Boers and Bernstein play now and then. He goes "You know who he reminds me of?"... Larivee or Dore ask, "Who?" Red's response, "I forgot." I LOLed.
  22. Um, yea. That would be ridiculous. Where'd you get a hold of PECOTA on him already, BTW?
  23. "Toolsy" prospects aren't exactly up Beane's alley, IMO. Especially not ones like Colvin, in particular. In fact, they're pretty much the opposite of what he likes (guys who have produced in the minors who don't necessarily have "tools" in the traditional sense). That said, I hope it is for Blanton.
