  1. I kinda live close to Royals fans.
  2. In terms of cable TV, is that even considered a curse? I mean obviously the whole deal about target audience and stuff, but considering that you can still hear it on TV during primetime...
  3. That's what the voting was last time I checked. Sure they weren't just talking about that?
  4. Pierre up to a .607 OPS! He's a hitting machine!
  5. Wow, Shannon Brown a lottery pick now in nbadraft.net's mock.
  6. This may be the most ridiculous thing you have ever said.
  7. Argue away the semantics, but both the trades you mentioned were head-scratchers at the time for most folks. We'll see if Tampa has really changed their steep price demands with a new GM. I'm not arguing "semantics", there is absolutely NO "absolute" in baseball. Even Albert Pujols can be traded. Highly unlikely, but still the possibility is there. And people are making Gomes out to be some kind of "savior" type hitter, which he is NOT. The suggestion that it would take a "Miguel Cabrera" type package to land Gomes, is downright LAUGHABLE. IMO, Gallagher and Guzman (talent wise) would be about right for Gomez, considering that lack of pitching, and the depth of OF prospects in the DRays system. With Gauthright/Dukes/Bankston (the KID has MONSTER power)/Young with Crawford and Baldelli, that's alot of talent. And, IMO, Gomes is NOT worth more then two very good prospects, which Gallagher and Guzman are. Guzman, is clearly as talented as Santana, or atleast has the stuff to rival Santana. Gallagher is SIMPLY going to win at the ML level, simply because he knows how to pitch. He's kind of a Mark Buehrle type pitcher, don't really have great stuff, but now how to used his stuff the best. Adding Guzman/Gallagher for Gomes makes more sense then trading Crawford for Santana. Call it semantics, which you would be clearly wrong, if you want, but the fact remains, Gomes is attainable for Gallagher/Guzman. I don't know how else to put it but that Guzman and Gallagher are not mini Santana and Buehrle respectively, and that there's no way the Devil Rays are trading their 900 OPS outfielder for them.
  8. Livan is an exception to the rule because he produces an ungodly amount of innings. You can carry one less relief pitcher if you wanted because he pitches so much. So an ERA of X over Y IP = 3 or 4 starter but an ERA of X over Y + 50 IP = 1 or 2 starter You're talking out of both sides of your mouth here.
  9. Isn't that a very similar ERA figure that you were saying makes Prior a 3 or 4 starter, but for Livan it makes him a 1 or 2?
  10. but if there are less games started there are less innings pitched then less pitches thrown. you don't think that less starts/more time to heal would be just as beneficial as less pitches/more outings? just curious. edit: also, this is just my opinion, but marmol has a better chance of success at a major league level than hill, though i too would like to see hill get a real chance over a sustained period of time in the show than those spot starts. a curveball and fastball alone isn't going to cut it. do you realistically see hill as a starter or reliever in the majors? I'll take lower pitch counts with more starts every day of the week. Marmol and Hill are at different stages in their careers. Marmol hasn't been pitching for all that long, and still has things to work on in lower levels. Hill is older, has been pitching longer, and has shown he has nothing left to gain from dominating AAA hitters. If we're throwing away the season I'd rather see Marmol continuing to develop in the minors while giving Hill a true shot to see if he will be a starter or a reliever at the big league level.
  11. Daniel Gibson went pro today! Viva CMA!
  12. I don't see the point. The thing that gets us in trouble isn't the days in between pitches, it's how many pitches are thrown in a single outing. Sure an extra day wouldn't hurt, but there's no way we're giving up the crutch/curse of a 7 man pen, and carrying 13 pitchers in the NL would be heinous. Also, Marmol should be replaced with Hill. Carlos needs more seasoning, and if we go to 6 men we better give Hill an extended shot to see if he can cut it.
  13. I still can't believe they called a foul. There was seriously no contact going on at all.
  14. Was Avery trying to say he had 2 timeouts left?
  15. If someone could show me how Wade was fouled there I'd really appreciate it.
  16. Dirk hits a slightly difficult shot
  17. can't root for anything involving Shaq. Why the Shaq Hate? You need an explanation?
  18. Is he for sure starting? If so, Happy Pawelek day everyone!
  19. Really? How about faulting them for being incompetent as owners? Again, aside from not removing any or all of the MacPhail/Hendry/Baker trio, you can't fault the Trib. They put up a good payroll and don't threaten to slash it if the team falters. They financed the addition to Wrigley. Getting mad at them for being the greedy corporation is misguided. Sadly it's not. The Trib was making an insane profit for years while under spending. Over the last two years they have jacked up ticket prices , added seats, and more advertising all while keeping the payroll the same. Can you imagine the money the Trib would rake in if the Cubs won the World Series? For them to have Andy MacPhail at the top this long means they do not care about winning. It's time for them to sale its a shame see how low this team has fallen. In the end, they are supposed to keep a profit. They've done what an owner should do financially, especially for one that's a publically owned company. Say what you want about not getting rid of management, I agree, but when it comes to money they are holding up their end.

  21. THAT is way too much. If it takes that much, then the Cubs are back in the same position, but with an soon-to-be-very expensive player and MORE questions about the pitching. Don't get me wrong, I love Cabrera, but I wouldn't try to acquire Cabrera, unless the deal is reasonable. And 5 young (ie cheap) players are not REASONABLE. I think the Cubs could get Jonny Gomes for Gallagher and Guzman, which would be worth it. No way Gallager and Guzman nets Gomes, or it should've been done yesterday.
  22. hooray Please keep hitting at a more age appropriate level, Fox.
  23. Pretty much the only thing you can fault the Trib for is not making front office changes. Not being cheap, not turning a profit, or anything else related to money.
