  1. Considering the situation, what's the benefit of rehab starts? If they're thinking of inserting him back into the lineup, and they clearly rushed him before, why not give him a rehab start or two in the minors to see if he's really getting any better? But what's the difference? Can't you tell if he's really getting any better whether he's playing with the big club or at Daytona?

  3. If Harvey cannot improve on his plate discipline, he's not going to be a productive major leaguer. It's as simple as that, unless he finds a way to be able to hit .315 consistently at the major league level.
  4. Perhaps because he's still lower half of the system.
  5. He might have had a HOF caliber career if you exclude his numbers from 1998 on. But well before? Not a chance. Going into the 1996 season he only had 277 HR's on his career. For a power hitter, those aren't HOF numbers. Going into his 1998 he had just 387 HR's. Still not HOF numbers for a power hitter. Well obviously if you take his career numbers at that point they don't stack up. Point is that he had OPS+'s of 164, 134, 130, 143, 175, 224, 137, 200, and 223 all before he went to St. Louis. It's not like he was a middling slugger before he broke the record.
  6. There were only 39 people on the 40-man roster because Miller is on the 60-day DL. Interesting that Williams or Ryu wasn't recalled... I think it was a matter of finding the guy who had the appropriate rest.
  7. Looks like The Who had the slightly larger margin of victory over Queen than Zep.
  8. pfft, that's optimism, seeing the Cubs win a meaningless August game is nothing compared to seeing how many innings they can play, or seeing what happens if anyone on the field were to get hurt right now.
  9. Definitely 3. I want him to give up the tie so we can play more.
  10. Neifi got to second base with Dusty in the dugout a few minutes ago, IIRC. No, not Dusty, himself
  11. Marmol pinch hit shot to the Crawford boxes, you heard it here first
  12. Didn't Theriot get on with a sleeve-assault? I believe he was hit squarely in the back. The hell he was. I laughed way too hard at that.
  13. I've been sitting in my recliner with my laptop since 7. I loathe myself. 2 more days, right?
  14. I didn't mind the zone until a couple innings ago when Guz started getting squeezed a little while the Astros zone got a little generous. I minded it when Clemens was getting gift wrapped calls waaaay earlier in the game. aka not getting ejected for clearly hitting someone on purpose
  15. It would lower the chance of scoring a run this inning. Compared to letting Z hit? The OBP of a batter has to be pretty low to justify bunting a runner from first to second with no outs. With one out, the OBP threshold is even lower. Z's OBP is pretty bad this year, but it's a small sample size. I think letting Z hit there was the right call, results notwithstanding. And Z knows this park, dude. .233 OBP in ~325 career PA's.
