    Why would LaRussa bat the .132 Carpenter and then pull him before pitching the next half inning. It doesn't have anything to do with Rosental. :? Why would he send him to the mound the next inning? Why wouldn't he pinch run with him, especially when he's the go ahead run?

    Now what did he do? Took the trainer with him so he could talk to Carpenter at first base. There was zero indication there was anything close to wrong with him, even McCarver picked up on the ploy.

    He played nearly 450 games in CF in his career. Where'd you get that number? Baseball Reference lists 57 games in CF, out of 2850 games played. BP says 446. Baseball Reference lists him as an "OF" for over 2000 of those games.

    I don't know anything about Fregosi other than he used to manage the Phils. Anyone got the lowdown on him?

    According to Baseball Reference he never made the big leagues, and there's no mention of him in the baseball cube(although I doubt that TBC is comprehensive all the way back to Leyland's days).

    I've thought about this a little bit, and this seems to be a good spot for it. If we go with Pie next year, should we find a platoon partner for him? A quick scan of Cot's FA list doesn't give much hope for RH CFers, and then there's still Jones and Murton who we may want to platoon as well. Maybe someone in Rule 5 would fit the bill? Pagan has been horrible against LHP this year, and there's some question to whether he can handle CF, so I don't think he'd work.

    Nonsense. Let's send Pie down to Peoria or Boise for the year, he'd dwarf what Fox did.

    I can't believe Pie is still losing to Fox, this is unacceptable people. I won't stand for this, it won't do at all.

    Pie will never be a leadoff hitter. If he gets the production you want out of a leadoff hitter, then he's going to be doing it with enough power that you want him deeper in the order.

    Pie in a landslide. He wouldn't be damaged by staying in AAA to start next year, but he's clearly made an adjustment and is just raking there right now. He strikes out a bit, but it's no higher than last year(which was better than the year before), and he's walking more than he ever has. Don't put him in a corner OF spot, just put him in CF and leave him there until at least 2011 or so unless he goes through a Pattersonian struggle.

    not really a big deal, but why the strong wording here? Not really intentional. O'Malley isn't good, and with as many options as we have at our disposal, we're in trouble if we're forced to give him any more time on the major league level.

    Murton is a possible LF solution, whether that's full time or a platoon. Cedeno should be a backup middle infielder now that we are guaranteeing Izturis SS. Pagan is a good candidate for a backup OF spot, I wouldn't want to count on him to be part of a platoon. Marshall, Marmol, Hill: IMO 2 of these 3 should be in the rotation, the other probably should be dealt. Hill especially should be dealt if he gets left off. Guzman is insurance in the rotation, I've liked him for a bullpen role for some time. Mateo goes to AAA. O'Malley is hopefully never heard from again. Theriot could be in the mix for a backup IF spot. Can't have him and Cedeno on the same team though.
