Record of Cincy's wins: 15-27 Their only win over a team that isn't at least 2 games under .500 is conference opponent South Florida(who has yet to beat anybody above .500, 4-4 McNeese St. being the closest), who lost to one of the worst teams in the Big 12, Kansas.

oh come on, we can top that I'd assume that whatever we're rumored to be sending to NY for Sheffield would be better sent to Philly. Benitez sucks. Benitez ERA+ in 2006: 128 In 2004: 317 Career: 147 Benitez sucked in 2005, but he does not suck. He's no worse than Scott Eyre, that's for sure. He also gave up a crapload of baserunners this year and hasn't thrown 40 innings in 3 years. -
Yep. 4 players to contention. 2B/Leadoff(Durham, Iwamura), Corner OF/power bat(Drew, Burrell), very good SP(Daisuke, Schmidt, Zito), less good SP(Kuroda, Padilla, Lilly). Keep the pen as is with Dempster and Wuertz changing roles, although if we can get rid of Eyre or Dempster's contract then we do it. Durham/Iwamura Murton Lee Ramirez Drew/Burrell Pie Izturis Zambrano, Daisuke/Schmidt/Zito, Hill, Kuroda/Padilla/Lilly, Prior/Marshall/Guzman/Mateo/Marmol/Ryu/Gallagher Ryu/Mateo/Guzman, Novoa/Aardsma, Ohman, Dempster, Eyre, Howry, Wuertz

Lots of undefeateds in the exhibition season. Mizzou plays UM-Rolla tomorrow night, and the Lithuania Academy on Monday.

I want to see Pie playing for the Cubs. But I'm not saving a spot for him if good alternatives are available. I've seen that movie too many times before. It's not Pie, it's Wells, and trading something as valuable as Pie for Wells.
-
What if Pie is part of the trade for Wells? Then we got hosed.

Eckstein winning may be worse than when Palmeiro won it a couple years ago. -
Oh no, let's not obsess about what hand Slaton is holding the ball with.

BP's metrics have Sizemore as only average(100 rate, -1 FRAA). The Count the Rings blog had him well behind Hunter near the All-Star break. -
West Virginia is painfully one-dimensional. Seriously, it's like a high-school offense on steroids. Make him throw the ball.
-
Nope, he's a FA after '07 Wells is a nice player, but I don't like him for our circumstances.
-
3 fumbles inside the first 3 minutes of the second half, two by Slaton, the last which is taken to the house by Louisville.

Were there any reports of EPatt's declining defense during the season? I don't remember them aside from BA repeating their previous reports that he wasn't fantastic there. I don't think a bad 2 week spell in the AFL is grounds enough to move EPatt off 2B.

Holy crap, Jeff Wolfert is a semi-finalist for the Groza award. Dude walked on this year after being a diver last year.
-
Not particularly. Yeah, a bench full of DHs will do the trick. Clearly, the only alternatives are a bench full of DHs and bench full of guys who can suck at 7 positions.

Not particularly.

Who's going to vote this year?

I was going to get registered to vote absentee, but I got sent the wrong paperwork too late. -
Lineup Protection? (Split from Ramirez)
Transmogrified Tiger replied to Geech's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
Protection isn't usually ever a factor. As far as having a metric to measure it's effect? My memory is that metrics tend to show that it doesn't matter how you construct a lineup in terms of the batting order and its productivity. Could be wrong, though. Actually, that was the perceived thought until 3 of the foremost sabermetric minds published The Book Batting order does matter. Having not read The Book, is it talking about lineup construction as it pertains to overall team production, or protection in the lineup leading to better performance for an individual hitter? -
Yes, there's a tourney for the national title.

I guess the question would be what qualified for a genuine interest in signing him. Would offering Matsuzuka a 6/30 deal qualify as genuine? I don't know and I don't know if the commisioner would agree or not. Definitely, Daisuke has no room to complain about a 6/30 deal. That wouldn't be a bad deal for a team. Submit a 50 million posting fee and then offer Daisuke 6/30. At worst, you have him for a cost of 80 million which is like 13 million a season. That's cheaper than offering a 30 million posting fee and then paying him 10 million a season. He may turn it down, but then he's kept from signing elsewhere. The only damage may be that he won't negotiate with that team when he returns as a FA next season. That's not taking advantage of the system though. If a team won with a 30 million bid, they could (and should) offer him a deal like that. Look at Ichiro for an example of a posted player's initial contract.
