  1. I'd give it to Sanders. Dude picked off a pass that essentially ended the game, and earlier he destroyed Benson to force a fumble. Plus he hilariously collided with his teammate on Jones' long run, and is built like a small tank. That's good enough for me.
  2. You'd think the Bears just lost the Super Bowl or something.
  3. lol for including the OS X dock
  4. No kidding. Can't expect to win many games when the other team is getting 2, 3, sometimes 4 chances at making a basket because of offensive boards, and we're going 1 and done because we can't freaking rebound. Of course, nothing was worse than those refs. Absolutely terrible. Probably the worst officiated game I've seen in person. Tom O'Neill is a joke. If he, Hightower, and Welmer never officiate another game again it will be too soon. And in review for Mizzou: blowout Arkansas, dominate Texas Tech, take Kansas to the wire in Allen, yet... lose to Iowa State at home, lose to Nebraska at home, and get swept by Kansas State. DeMarre Carroll's rebounding self can't be eligible soon enough.
  5. The problem is he doesn't have any accomplishments. Thank you, goony, for in just 8 words crystalizing my argument that your opinion of Hendry is unbalanced to the negative and mine is a well-thought out, middle of the road view that includes both the good and the bad of his career as GM. You are truly a beacon of rationality. With the factual argument to back it up. No doubt, you're kind of a big deal. People know you. Nope. They don't. But if ridicule is all you got, good for you. My bad, I read the last few posts and mistook it for the thread where everyone told CubsWin how awesome he is. Your argument is middle of the road because you have no argument. You are a perpetual devil's advocate.

  7. How do you know that for sure? No offense, but I doubt Hendry tells reporters all the deals that he's discussing. OK. Believe what you will. I think my track record holds up pretty well. No offence, but the last thing I consider is your track record. I don't care. I care about the Cubs making themselves better. It may be all BS, but maybe not. I'm only reporting what my buddy told me. Either he's all wet, or you are. Time will define the truth of the matter. What does your "buddy" do that qualifies him as a Cubs insider with special knowledge of who the Cubs are in trade talks with? Does he work for the Cubs front office? Is he a member of the sports media? Does he work for the Mariners front office? MLB? No offense intended, gus, but without providing a link or your buddy's creds, I'm going to have to go with Bruce Miles on this one. If someone is wet here, Bruce is as dry as the dusty infields at Fitch Park after a long, hot afternoon practice. He already said his source's connection, I'm pretty sure it was the Player's Union.

  9. He also has an option that will almost assuredly be picked up.
  10. I think there is an obvious answer why not put both in those positions now. The Cubs have serious doubts as to whether Pie is ready. Quade's comments at the Convention implied that Mike did not think Felix is ready and still has some things to learn and some adjustments to make. If Pie isn't ready, the Cubs are in conundrum. If Soriano is in RF and Murton/Floyd in LF, who is in CF. Jones might play there, but he may not handle it defenively either. If Soriano is willing (an he is) and able (that's the rub) then he solves the problem as Jones can stay at RF. Soriano in CF makes the most sense, regardless of Pie. Either way, the future appears Murton, Soriano, Pie, so putting Pie in RF doesn't make that much difference. Soriano has the arm and athleticism to handle CF, so it's learning the position more than anything else. I don't see Soriano having much problems in CF. CF should be easier to play than the other outfield spots mainly for better reads on the flyballs. I used to think that too until recently when I've had a couple of kids that could play RF very well but struggled in Center. They both said the got a better read off the bat in RF than they did in CF. I would think a lot of that has to do with background. Whether you're playing RF or CF in the big leagues you have the same rows and rows of seats as a backdrop. Also, Wrigley's shorter alleys make for a smaller CF than normal.
  11. If you trade for Ichiro, you have to extend him. There's pretty much no way that it would be worth it to trade for him for one season unless the cost is criminally low.
  12. I hope this is as good as his career gets. Good luck with that. Kelvin Torbert Bracey Wright, it has happened before. That said I don't think it will here. Gordon is much higher regarded than Bracey. I don't remember the Torbert hype, so I won't comment on how highly he was though of. EJ would be a top 10 pick if he could go pro right now. At no point in his life was Bracey a top 10 pick. Plus, I know this is a high school game, but EJ has gone to the basket more times tonight than Bracey did his whole career in college. Torbert was thought to be pretty much the best HS player in the nation coming out of High School. While he had a fine career at Michigan State(I think he went to 2 Final Fours), his performance definitely didn't match his hype. By his senior year he was second fiddle to Chris Hill and Alan Anderson.
  13. If Mizzou draws Texas in the Big 12 tourney I'm going to break down and cry. 37 and 23, ridiculous
  14. KSU isn't the biggest team in the conference. Hell, 1/2 the game we were playing where Martin at 6'7" was our biggest guy on the floor. That's where the other two things I mentioned come into play.
  15. Very frustrating loss. Second KSU game in a row we have been massively outrebounded due to a lack of size/getting thrashed with no call/lack of effort and positioning.
  16. The Cards score more runs than the Cubs. Their rotation can afford to be worse than ours. Also, 2/5 of our rotation is composed of an injury riddled Miller/Prior and Jason Marquis. After losing Weaver and Suppan, their rotation will probably not match last year's, however, and the Cards haven't really added much on offense or pitching wise, other than the aforementioned Wilson. The Cubs should have a somewhat better starting rotation but the Cards should have a significantly better offense. Honestly, everyone in the central looks pretty mediocre at this point (save the Pirates, who still suck, and Houston, who will only have a shot if Clemens comes back again). I think everybody other than those two teams could win the division if things break their way. It will probably come down to who is healthier. I'm going to need some convincing that the Cardinals offense is even slightly better than the Cubs, never mind significantly better. Their approach to the rotation should be familiar, because it's what we've done the past few years with a different variable. Instead of "if these guys stay healthy" it's "if these young guys progress/if duncan can turn these guys around".
  17. I'm rooting for the Bears in the Super Bowl, but my answer to the question is no.
  18. Naturally that's true, but that's not the point I was making. My point is that despite his success as a reliever, Wainwright has yet to prove himself a capable starter, and therefore his immediate placement in that 2-3 spot in the rotation makes for risky business.
  19. You should also compare stuff, which one has two outstanding above avg. pitches and which one has none. Obviously Wainwright has the hammer curve(I'm not sure I'd call any of his other pitches outstanding, especially as a starter), but the point I'm getting at is that Wainwright was far from a stud as a starting pitcher. Even with good stuff it's not an easy task to go from reliever to starter, and counting on him as the 2/3 in a rotation is a pretty shaky proposition.
  20. Here's an interesting comparison. 2005, Age 24, AAA (PCL), second year in AAA 4.33 ERA 1.33 WHIP 7.00 K/9 2.83 BB/9 9.17 H/9 0.64 HR/9 2005, Age 24, AAA (PCL), second year in AAA 4.40 ERA 1.40 WHIP 7.27 K/9 2.52 BB/9 10.09 H/9 0.89 HR/9 Now, which one is Sergio Mitre, and which one is Adam Wainwright(the last year he was a SP), and more importantly, does it matter which one is which?
  21. There's also the possibility the Bears don't score a touchdown...
  22. Has MSU beaten Illinois in Champaign since the Lon Kruger era?
  23. Who's the #3? Wainwright and Reyes are the 2 and the 3.
  24. Quite a bit until DirecTV told me to F off. Oh, and we hijacked this thread. Guesstimate, just for argument's sake. Aside from the Cubs, how many games per team? 30? 50? 100?
  25. Then what do you base your opinon on, their astrological signs? I knew I'd get a smarmy remark in about 15 seconds. I apologize for not basing my entire baseball opinion on numbers. So does every manager and coach in professional sports. BTW, when did I attack anyone in this thread previous to your reply? What DO you base your opinion off of then? State your case instead of just saying "Numbers, I don't like them". And tangentially, which is going to be more flawed, a defensive metric, or your recollection of all 30 teams defense/individual defensive reputation? I'm really (trust me) not trying to be a smart a** - but yea, I do base it off my personal observations more than what a stat sheet says. For defense, anyway. And honestly? I'd wager most managers agree with me on that. Do I know that for sure? No, but it's my opinion. And how much did you personally observe of all 30 teams last year?
