I don't think so. Soriano got a very good read on it and took off pretty early, and it was a bloop that hung in the air for a bit. Even with Soriano gimping home it took a perfect throw to beat him.

Unfortunately, with Theriot already on the roster, Fontenot is probably redundant(he's a worse defender and hits for more power). Maybe if we had somebody like Tejada(great player, great durability) at SS we could use both of them on the same bench. -

been busy, but in case you missed it, ESPN confirmed that Manuel knew all along about what was going on with Gordon. When he moved Myers to the pen, he was in effect getting ready to tab him as closer because he felt that he was the best option on the team to close. here is that article, also details some other funny biz going on. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=2864344 Having a closer get hurt doesn't make it any less crazy to turn a good starter into a closer. -

Good to see we both agree that determining who is a better player based on a few at bats is stupid By the way: Murton: 70 AB Floyd: 73 AB what? wait. the people who are arguing against murton are always citing his lack of production this season. the people for murton are saying that murton's been more productive than the alternatives this year. that's how i take it. Yes, and prior to his last 5 or 6 at bats, he wasn't as productive as Jones or Floyd. So it's a bit misleading to say he's been more productive this season, when, in reality, his last few at bats have skewed his season statistics. Floyd could play tomorrow, hit a homerun and a double, and we'd be having this argument again. Fact is, they've both been relatively equal this season, and I don't think Piniella's choice for Floyd over Murton in certain games has cost us much, if anything. It's not the same as playing Izturis over Theriot with all things being equal, you should always play the younger guy. Especially when he was better last year, is faster, more durable, a better defender, better at poker, etc. -

Why, because it points out one of your corner outfielders is as about as prductive as Neifi Perez with about 1/3 of the ABs. It certainly ruffles the feathers around here to point out the flaws of the boards favorite son. Quick, guess who has the best OPS this year out of Murton, Floyd, and Jones. Hint: The answer is not Floyd or Jones -

I agree. And as I type this, Soriano takes a walk, to make it all 29 games now that he's reached base in. Did he reach base on April 10th? I see no BBs or hits. He got hit by a pitch. Link

Am I the only one that thought Murton might have been safe? I couldn't tell in real time or from the crappy replay angle they showed, but I thought he might've gotten to the plate. Didn't matter though, since the umpire was in terrible position.

Is Lou intentionally trying to keep Wuertz from pitching in important portions of the ballgame? I swear, if it's high leverage in the 8th, he uses Howry even if Wuertz is available. Now in the 7th, he'll just use Howry as a 4 out set up man/human napalm.

Wow, that's some awful defense on that play. Lee might've been able to get a glove on it. I can only assume Murton overthrew the cutoff man since Izturis had to run into the middle infield to get it, and then he threw to Barrett 8 feet in the air.

Rollins and Victorino are switch hitters, and Utley and Howard come up 3/4 in the lineup and they're both lefty Except it's Rowand/Utley, not Utley/Howard.

We brought in Ohman to turn around two switch hitters and face Rowand? Use Wuertz against LH, it's okay to do so.

Haha, awesome. Ilgauskas is jogging towards the post before an offensive set, Collins throws a shoulder into his chest, Ilgauskas called for an illegal screen, then gets a technical when he claimed otherwise. New Jersey is shooting very well from the perimeter. -
