  1. Kerry Wood redux ? When did Kerry Wood have good command of the fastball? The day he struck out twenty Astros Well, that day he could've yelled to the Astro hitters, "I'm going to throw my curveball now", and they still would've looked like cartoon characters trying to hit it.
  2. Count your blessings. Despite the weak 2 seed, the East is loaded.
  3. Sorted by post count.
  4. He wasn't healthy, they released him early in Spring Training.
  5. Yes, because Hendry has such a poor track record with trading players There's a difference between trading for a player(Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, Pierre(whoops!), Nomar) and trading away a player(Sosa, Patterson, Maddux). Hendry is awful at the latter, and that's what he'd be doing with Z.
  6. Why is Z still pitching? Screw you Trammell.
  7. Pretty swimmingly, since Zito is a Giant.
  8. Milledge and Pelfrey, then use Milledge or Pie as part of a deal to get Teixeira.
  9. The Indians don't do stupid things like call up their best pitching prospect before he's big league ready for stupid reasons like "need more control in middle relief", or "we can just extend him later". I agree, they didn't have Carmona up last year getting shelled in the pen... Carmona was pitching better than Gallagher is at a higher level when he was called up. It was also his second season at AAA after 2 seasons at AA. Not even remotely comparable. just noticed this. not sure how you can have it both ways between your defense of the way they broke in Colon, and the way they broke in this guy. Carmona was not pitching very well before being called up. nice peripherals, but a 5.53 ERA in six starts. how that's all that much better than Gallaghers start at AA this year, I don't know. You said it yourself, peripherals. Better walk rate with a similar K rate and WHIP, and again, at a higher level after he spent a full year in AAA, and large parts of 2 years in AA.
  10. Thanks blue, we didn't want Pie on first base anyway.
  11. The Indians don't do stupid things like call up their best pitching prospect before he's big league ready for stupid reasons like "need more control in middle relief", or "we can just extend him later". will first, we don't know yet exactly what reason he is being brought up for, those reasons probably aren't it, and the Indians brought up Sabathia at a far younger age, with far fewer minor league innings and far worse results than Gallagher. The Indians also let Sabathia continue to start games, and it was at the beginning of the season when they decided to give him a rotation spot.

  14. There's got to be somebody better than Doolittle available at 48.
  15. Geez, Pie and now Floyd hammer pitches right at outfielders.
  16. You really, really should. Middle relief for our floundering major league club is not worth jeopardizing the future and length of control of possibly our best pitching prospect. I used to think that way, but I'm starting to change my mind about the length of control thing. with the way pitchers flame out you're generally going to get the best years out of pitcher within the first six years of service. as for pitchers that start to come into their own in years 5-6, 29 other teams are producing them. pitchers that are consistently dominant from the get go up until 5-6 years of service without signs of inconsistency or regression (1 in a million), throw money at them. Again though, it's not as if Gallagher is not in the big league rotation because of a lack of spots. He needs more developmental time.
  17. The fact that we continue to throw Wuertz in the 7th and Howry in the 8th pisses me off to no end.
  18. You really, really should. Middle relief for our floundering major league club is not worth jeopardizing the future and length of control of possibly our best pitching prospect. I'm a fan. I care about winning. You're talking about a pocketbook problem we face years from now. Who's to say Gallagher won't be open to a deal locking him up long term a few years down the line? It's only a question of dollars. The Cubs have enough and then some. No. It's not just a question of dollars, it's a question of full years that we control him. It's not as if Gallagher was ripping up Iowa but we have no room in the rotation. When he goes back down he's going to need more time to develop, maybe even more than before now that we're screwing with him by promoting him two levels and putting him in a role he's never been in. And, like was mentioned, Gallagher isn't exactly throwing bushels of strikes in AA that he's going to be a great fix for the (nonexistent) problem of walks in middle relief.

  20. The Cubs front office has to be going out drinking and then making bets about how they can one up each other.
