  1. Let's see, Harang has thrown nine innings already, got into trouble last inning, and is up to 107 pitches. Let's throw him out there to start the 10th!
  2. That rumor's going to take a hit since it just came out Hoffpauir is out for the year.
  3. I could see LA, but San Diego? I don't feel too great about seeing Peavy and Young 4 times.
  4. They could've just put the extra game today and made it a 4-game series instead of a double header sometime later in the season. We are owed a game with them? Yes, there is a day-night double header on 9/15 at STL as makeup for the 4/29 Josh Hancock game that was postponed. The first game will be at 12:10 pm on WGN and the second game (originally scheduled for 2:55pm) will start at 7:10pm on CSN. FYI, I'm sure one of the reasons why they didn't schedule the double header for this series is because the Cardinals are already playing a day-night double header with the Brewers on Saturday (7/28). That is a makeup for a game that was postponed on 4/13. Also, isn't there something in the CBA that says teams can't play more than 20 days in a row. If so, that's why they couldn't reschedule the game for today. If there is such a clause, I'd really like to know why we played something like 26 games in 24 days at the end of 2004 due to Hurricane Frances wiping out a Marlins series. BTW, normally I'd assume a loss, but the Cubs have always smashed Kip Wells to my recollection. Might be new to the CBA since they last negotiated.
  5. Psh. You are the St. Louis Cardinals of this league. I whipped your ass all year long, then in the playoffs you suddenly turned golden :p Not my fault your team wasn't clutch. Ok Mr Yankee. Why don't you go and kiss Derek Jeter's ass. Ouch, jealousy is a bitter pill, eh?
  6. Murton was allowed to play through worse struggles last year and everyone reaped the benefits.
  7. and do what - move a gold glove 1B to OF??? Yes, for the time being. Teixeira wants(and would get from us) a long term extension, and would bridge 1B after Lee's contract expires in a couple years.
  8. There's no way Renteria guarantees us the Central.
  9. Reasons this is a bad idea or it won't work: Ricciardi probably won't be entertaining offers for Rios, no need to. If he did trade him the fanbase would not be pleased with him. Related to that idea, Ricciardi is not going to trade Rios without a headline player coming back. Sean Marshall is not a good enough player or a big enough name for that. Soriano is probably not going back to CF. The difference between Floyd and Rios is not so much greater than the difference between Marshall and Mateo/Gallagher that we need to include Pie, Cedeno, Veal, and Soto. Making a deal like that pretty much puts all your eggs in one basket. Rios better work out, because you just dealt the vast majority of your near major league ready commodities(Gallagher and Murton are the only one's left, and you have to use them to plug the holes you made by dealing Marshall and Pie EDIT: I guess EPatt is there too). Talent wise a deal of that nature may be worth it, but practically speaking it's a terrible idea. Dealing Pie and Marshall and Cedeno and Soto and Veal for a single outfielder kills your flexibility to go cheap at positions, or to trade for upgrades elsewhere.
  10. I can't say I'm overly keen on buying high on Renteria's BABIP-happy first half. That and he's a toolbox for the nonsense he pulled on us.
  11. Yeah, not quite sure what Williams' motivation is on that one.
  12. Ain't he an outfielder with a good arm and good speed? Why waste him at 1B? He's been playing in the OF, probably just got a game there to change things up, Hoffpauir is on the DL and Moore got promoted so there weren't a ton of 1B options(especially since Soto caught).
  13. I think Hendry has been linked to Conine every season since Vietnam ended.
  14. Yeah, he was in Low A when he was floundering in the SD system. It's not so bad though, he's only 19 and doesn't turn 20 until April, so he's not exactly falling behind the curve when it comes to age v. level.
  15. If that happens then it's time to call Littlefield again to see exactly what he'd want for Bay or Nady.
  16. Up to the millisecond line on Burke: .283/.411/.517/.928, 11/14 BB/K. He has a near 1.200 OPS this month.
  17. remove Premium from the URL and it takes you to the thread in the regular interface.
  18. To be fair, they are about a billion percent right on that point.
  19. It was started Saturday, and we followed with 2 losses... just sayin' The Brewers lost 2 in a row as well.
  20. Something that I didn't consider until it dawned on me, even though it should've been obvious. If we upgrade RF, then Floyd replaces Ward's role. I'm sure someone's said that in this thread too and I missed it, so please commence with making me look foolish.
  21. hahaha, an elite prospect for Dye and his expiring contract, .284 OBP, and .715 OPS? Where do I sign up?
  22. if you only want guys who are consistently dominant, you're going to have a hard time filling out a rotation. nobody in the cubs' rotation comes even close to matching that description. Not the same thing. I never stated that I expected a dominant start every time out, I merely pointed out Hill's rather inconsistent nature. Lilly is far from Dominant but for the most part, you know what you are getting. An actual look at their performances show that this is far from the case. Lilly has 5 outings of 5 runs or more, and so does Hill. Expand it to 4 runs or more and it's only 7 to 6 in Lilly's favor, and they both have 8 outings of 3 runs or more.
  23. I may be off, but I think that's the 8th time we've walked Young(he of the .275 OBP) this series.
  24. Angel Hernandez and Larry Young on this crew, brutal
