  1. I wasn't a huge fan of Lilly's contract(and I was a big proponent of getting Schmidt), but I underestimated him as a pitcher, even if he does regress from his current performance.
  2. Maybe he's talking about him tracking balls into short right field. If we're going outside the box enough to trade for a 1B(Teixeira!) and move Lee to the OF, it might be a better allocation of resources just to trade Lee. His value to another team as a 1B is greater than his value to us as an OF because of his defense. He also has a large contract, and there's the thing about him not hitting for very much power. He'd make a great centerpiece for A-Rod if you had Teixeira in hand...
  3. Jim Bowden disagrees. That's just part of the alumni program.
  4. I think the point is that it's a lousy division if .500 gets you to first place, I'm pretty sure it wasn't a commentary about the talent level.
  5. Kroeger doesn't turn 25 until the end of next month(which happens to be the end of the minor league season), so for all intents and purposes he's a 24 year old this year.
  6. Someone brought it up when he was raking at AA, and I wanted to wait and see how he handled AAA since AA had never been the problem with him. After tonight his OPS is now north of .950 at AAA, with 15/20 BB/K in ~130 PA's. I'm really curious to see if he could handle a big league spot in some capacity, but the circumstances just don't seem to be right with the 40 man roster as it is.
  7. He's been less than his usual self this year, he's a potential free agent, and they have had several relievers performing as well or better to pick up slack from trading him. I suppose. They still just took one of their better arms out of their bullpen in the middle of a pennant race. Prospects or not, it is odd to be selling key pieces when you are leading the WC race. It'd be similar to us trading Wuertz for a pretty impressive prospect haul, if Wuertz were a potential FA.
  8. Petrick for the 8th, Eyre in the 9th, with Wuertz available to put out any fires.
  9. Last year he hit .206/.286/.324/.609 in about 75 PA's against us.
  10. Am I losing my mind, or is this the second go round for Sister, Sister reruns on WGN?
  11. He's going to get thrown out of a game for that. Sosa's corked bat will be nothing compared to RascalGate.
  12. I think Floyd is seeing the ball okay against Wainwright tonight
  13. So, barring the unforseen it looks like Uber is not going to show. Anyone have any suggestions for people to ask to take his place? I know Cheapseats is pretty into fantasy stuff.

  15. Wow, Inman's one of their stud prospects, isn't he? I've always liked Linebrink, hopefully he falls off a cliff in the second half. EDIT: From BA's handbook this year. Inman is #3, Thatcher is #23, and Garrison is #27 That's quite the haul for Towers, he is owning the trade market this year.
  16. This is a bunch of anecdotal crap. If you look at Vazquez's stats that go along with these wild accusations you're throwing around, you'll see that his pitches per inning pitched is pretty much dead average among starters, and his "after 0-2" stats and later pitches/later innings statistics are among the best in the AL. Not really sure how calling a post a "bunch of anecdotal crap" can make it through here but oh well. Look at his stats the last three years. ERA's of 4.91, 4.42, 4.84. ERA+'s of 92, 99, and 96. He has always had a problem of the one bad inning. You're telling me that it's a bunch of anecdotal crap that this latest stretch isn't an aberration? He's a very average pitcher; nothing more and nothing less. You're going to have to do better to convince me otherwise besides saying that my post is a bunch of anecdotal crap. ERA alone isn't going to do a whole lot to prove the point. Look at his K and BB numbers, he's well above average.
  17. yuck :?: Vazquez is a good pitcher with a below average contract given the market. Too bad we couldn't take him on with the ownership situation, because I'd deal for him and use Marshall as a chip to get a big bat. Vazquez used to be good and spent the better part of the last few seasons being mediocre at the very best. He's having a good year this year, but the 3 previous years are enough for me to say "yuck" to giving up a lot to get him. Mediocre at the very best is selling him quite short. Including 2007, 4 of the past 5 years he's had at least 8+ K/9, 3 of the past 5 he's had a K/BB over 4(and another year he was over 3). He's always given up more longballs than ideal, but those are some very good peripherals. To compare, there are only a dozen MLB starters(including Vazquez) with a 4+ K/BB this year. Only 21(including him) strike out 8+ per 9 innings. Vazquez is legit.

  20. Replacing Hill with Gallagher/Holliman/Dempster/bargain bin refuse is an enormous dropoff, you know that.
  21. Let me give you some standard complaints... Clearly the power has already gone to your head. Why am I being singled out? Serena started it, you should talk to her. She's the problem. I figured you'd merge it but I thought I'd start the thread anyway. And by doing so exposing my inability to perform such tasks as merging a thread? I won't be made a mockery of!
  22. Thanks! As an display of such new abilities, I'm going to (attempt to) merge this with the Announcement thread Serena started.
