  1. What distinguishes him as Type A versus type B? I believe it is something along the lines of top 20% in certain statisical categories. Is there a definitive answer to this and as of right now would Linebrink fall into that category? Elias Sports decides it. Its a non-public formula so no one can say for sure. Its also based on more than just this season, he is the holds leader in baseball over the past 3 years so he would have to completely fall apart the rest of the season to not stay a type A most likely. It's just the past 2 years.
  2. Jones rounded third base like he needed to get the baton from Lou in the dugout or something.
  3. It appears that Lou has reverted back to early season bullpen management, aka "see how many times I can put in the wrong reliever".
  4. Al Hrabosky just said that it was commonplace for pitchers to lose 10-12 pounds sweating in one start if it's a hot day. Color me skeptical.
  5. I can't believe I forgot Hernandez, he's my favorite pitching prospect! Anyway, Burke failed in the MWL because he went too fast too soon. And yes, while more marginal college guys like Smith and Wright may not continue their success at higher levels and therfore be "hated" by next year, the point is that they are having success, and they haven't failed yet. The same can't be said of Lansford, Adduci, Norwood, etc.
  6. IMB said he was going to ask Wolf. Hopefully he didn't PM him here though, since he's not coming around here very much for the time being.
  7. Sullivan didn't cite a source. Anyone? Petrick and Fox would be the obvious choices, but I don't know anything officially.
  8. There's a chance of rain here in STL, wonder what happens if the game gets rained out. They're already playing a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, would they do it again on Sunday, or does Milwaukee come back to Busch again?
  9. I think you'd just root for neither team to sweep.
  10. Does anyone know if there's a maximum number of Yahoo teams you can have?
  11. And CF Leon Johnson & SS Darwin Barney aren't real prospects? Then why did the Cubs draft them in the top 10 rounds a month ago? Johnson is 22 and Barney turns 22 in November. Johnson through 8 games: .308/.419/.462 Barney through 7 games: .269/.387/.308 - Needs to work on his power I don't know why they drafted them, they were incredible reaches. Barney looks like a slightly better version of Joe Simokaitis, and Johnson is Sam Fuld reincarnated. I dont believe that the Cubs drafted Barney because they were thinking of Simokaitis and Sam Fuld is a pretty good player who'll have a chance to play in the big leagues, thou he cant come close to running with Johnson. My next question is, do they check birth certificates in the major leagues? Of course they had something better in mind when they drafted them, just like they had something better in mind when they drafted Montanez, or Harvey, or Dopirak, or Pawelek, or Colvin. It doesn't mean that's going to happen. Fuld will be a 5th outfielder if he makes the major leagues, and his ~.750 OPS in AA at age 25 doesn't exactly put him on track to make it there. I don't really know what you're addressing with the birth certificate thing, but I suspect it has something to do with the fact that Johnson and Barney are both 22(EDIT: Barney isn't quite 22) and in Low A. I never said anything about it, and I'm not holding it against them right now, but age matters, and those two are going to have to move quickly through the system. Barney was a reach, but how can you call Leon Johnson an "incredible reach"? He was a 10th round pick.... unless you want the Cubs drafting high school guys and signing them above slot (which they didn't do much of this year), you can't call Johnson much of a reach. I know he might've been rusty from his Mormon mission, but did you see his numbers at BYU? Flat out terrible(.248/.335/.339), and the Mountain West isn't exactly a baseball power either.
  12. They didn't mention that 14% of Lilly's fly balls are infield flies, which is top 5-10 in the NL. That's part of the reason why his HR rate is so low, and that IF/F rate has been that high his entire career, so it's an ability he's repeatedly shown.
  13. Wasn't Max Ramirez in the Futures game this year? EDIT: Yes, yes he was.

  15. BABIP is Batting Average on Balls In Play. Basically average taking out strikeouts and home runs. ISO is Isolated Power. Slugging percentage minus batting average.
  16. It is a keeper league, but we can't keep players drafted in the 1st 2 rounds. We can keep anyone else, but we lose that pick in the next year's draft. Oh, well that changes my opinion then. What's the point of that rule, confusion? It's supposed to create better competition, so year in and year out you don't have the same team winning. Though, I don't see how that's even possible as volatile as football is. No kidding. I mean, in the keeper league we're in, it's year 3 and my keepers are completely different from my keepers from last year. And did well both years too.

  19. I don't think it's a big deal. He's not actually wasting a roster spot because he's not on the 25 man or the 40 man roster right now. As long as they don't try to put him on either of those rosters, he will just fade away after another month. Yeah, there's not exactly a logjam in the Iowa rotation either.
  20. Not bad and you forgot Wyatt, dont underrate Peoria which could be as good or better. Peoria? Isn't virtually that entire team devoid of prospects? Anyway, I'm glad to see that Burke is not being overmatched like he had been for the rest of his minor league career. I'm actually glad the Cubs picked up a high-ceiling offensive prospect, because they really don't have any outside of Vitters. (i'm assuming Dopirak and Harvey are busts) Wrong again on Peoria, after thee aforementioned Samson and Barney you have pitchers Pino, Ceda, Lambert and Renshaw and you have everyday players in Lansford, Leon Johnson, and wait till Hardman gets some at bats. My next question is what makes Burke a " high-ceiling" player? Would that be his baseball america ranking in high school? Pina, Ceda, and to a lesser extent Renshaw(all pitchers) are the only real prospects at Peoria, they are completely devoid of potential major league hitters.
  21. Boise is now my favorite affiliate to follow. Aside from Iowa, there's no level that has the potential hitting prospects that Boise has, between Thomas, Donaldson, Burke, Rundle, Smith, and Wright.
  22. For three days? This reminds me, is the deadline in the middle of the afternoon again this year? I wish they'd go back to the midnight deadline.
  23. Those look really nice. Much simpler than many rings that try to see how many rocks they can fit in.
  24. Odds are Ward's not coming off the DL until September, and then it won't matter.
