  1. How are Vizquel's Gold Gloves a joke?
  2. I'll be the one to shoot the fish in the barrel: Jeter. Another one, Torii Hunter.
  3. At first, I thought Bo Hart was joining the team... so you're not alone! Alright, who's Fuld?? CF drafted several years ago out of Stanford. LH bat with a pretty solid approach at the plate and a strong defender, ceiling of a 5th outfielder. Remember Adam Greenberg? He's pretty much another incarnation of that skillset.
  4. Since there was a good bit of discussion about Z's apology in this thread, I went ahead and merged this.
  5. Olerud was a seriously above-average fielder too, if I remember correctly. That's a good one. How about Darren Daulton? 113 OPS+, and three AS appearances to show for it. Darren Daulton made me think of Gregg Jeffries. Unfortunately, after bringing up his BR page it appears he's more qualified for the "Lucky Cards players" thread than the "most underrated". It also makes me think of "You're a 5, Jeffries! A FIVE!" How about Andy Van Slyke?
  6. That's a good one. How long did Greer play? 9 seasons, although only 3 of them had 140+ games. 4420 career PA's.
  7. Rusty Greer Career .305/.387/.478, 120 OPS+, and consecutive peak years(.332/.397/.530 followed by .321/.405/.531) of 132 and 138 OPS+.
  8. You really think Mizzou looked more impressive than Clemson, BC, or Georgia Tech? No idea, I didn't see any of them play. I was half-kidding anyway, hence the grumbles.
  9. Argh, Clemson, BC, and Georgia Tech leapfrog Mizzou to keep them out of the Top 25. Stupid media respect for FSU and Notre Dame, grumble, grumble, grumble.
  10. Not in the slightest. Some fans are patient enough that they could tolerate a decent season falling short of the playoffs if it meant a philosophical turn around that led to the team being a perennial pennant contender in the future. Some people have a more macro-minded view than others. Let's say the Cubs miss the playoffs. Which is more likely to be the response from Hendry: "We need to change our philosophy and get better hitters especially in the outfield" or "That's what happens when you rely on young players in a pennant race" or "If Soriano hadn't gotten injured...." The people who would hope for missing the playoffs are hoping that it's something like: "I respect [new owner]'s decision and wish them the best of luck in the future.

  12. This reminds me of the cliche about a player "who doesn't get cheated up there at the plate".
  13. Fuld's not on the 40-man. I wonder if this is it for him in the organization.
  14. Uh, Wednesday is tomorrow now.
  15. There's a discussion about Japanese FA's mostly centering around Fukudome here.
  16. Do you boo your waiter if he drops a plate of your food? Z obviously realizes he didn't pitch well, which means booing just boils down to the fans trying to make themselves feel better. No, but in some cases customers might ask to speak with the manager if they are dissatisfied with their food or service. In our case with the Cubs, we can't speak directly to the players or management, so booing is the clearest way to express displeasure. That's where the analogy breaks down. Like I said, everyone realizes that Z/the team isn't doing well in that situation. No one is enlightened by the booing, it's only for the boo-er's benefit.
  17. And those Yankee fans were correctly labeled idiots by most of the rational world. Do you think Cubs fans are idiots for boo'ing Z? Z has done nothing close in the Majors to compare at all to what Arods done. Not idiots, but definitely selfish like Z said. I think people have a right to be selfish when they are spending their money to see a game. I suppose it's also selfish of me to hope a movie is good when I spend $8 to go to the theater. And it's selfish to expect good food when I go to a restaurant. Consider us all selfish! Do you boo your waiter if he drops a plate of your food? Z obviously realizes he didn't pitch well, which means booing just boils down to the fans trying to make themselves feel better.

  20. You know who's 100% right? Carlos Zambrano
  21. Alright, one more outing for Samardzija and Hernandez.
  22. I really, really wish Thomas had been promoted to Peoria with Smith and Wright.
  23. They'll need it. All 3 of us have home series followed by a long stretch on the road(where we're the only one of the three that is any good). If we're still up more than a game by Friday then I say we're up 4 games on everyone by the end of our trip to StL.

  25. I don't think you can definitively say that Benn is better than Franklin. Even then that statement is misleading with Mizzou's TEs, and statements like "Leman was the best defensive player on the field on either side"(Pig Brown ftw, literally) can also work for "Daniel + Coffman" and "offensive". That brings me to Leman. I know he's a great player, but was yesterday really a shining moment for him? Every 3rd down and short/medium was a guaranteed pass to Coffman in the middle of the field and he caught every single one of them. Like I said earlier, being there I didn't have the benefit of replay, but there were a ton of inside slants that chewed up yardage in what seemed to be Leman's territory. Whatever though, we're not going to convince each other either way on something so subjective.
