  1. Do we really need another reliever just to throw with his left hand? Marmol, Howry, Wuertz, and Wood were all pretty tough on LH hitters, and with the depth of the pen we can use Eyre as a true LOOGY, going after LH hitters that really struggle with LHP.
  2. To answer my own question, it looks like he followed Dombrowski around. Director of Player Development with the Expos from 1995-1998, Followed by VP and Assistant GM for Florida from 1998-2001. Maybe he's similar to what people suggested about Hendry, Peter Principle in action as a GM, but worth having around lower on the totem pole.
  3. What was Littlefield's trajectory to Pittsburgh GM?
  4. He makes lots of terrible throws, and for someone who's supposed to lead the offense, he blames his teammates for everything that goes wrong.
  5. I can see being down on Pie, but I don't understand hating Pie and simultaneously pushing Khalil X. Both have light on base skills with good power and elite defense for their position.
  6. In all honesty, Harrell is a bad quarterback.
  7. Ned Colletti is the poster boy for resource misallocation.
  8. I'm willing to take that chance. Relievers break out all the time, as evidenced by Blevins himself, a 17th rounder.
  9. 1. Babe Ruth 2. Ted Williams 3. Barry Bonds 4. Honus Wagner 5. Willie Mays 6. Hank Aaron 7. Josh Gibson 8. Cy Young 9. Lou Gehrig 10. Joe DiMaggio 11. Rickey Henderson 12. Roger "The Rocket" Clemens 13. Alex Rodriguez 14. Sandy Koufax 15. Jimmie Foxx 16. Pedro Martinez 17. Ty Cobb 18. Mel Ott 19. Rogers Hornsby 20. Albert Pujols 21. Stan Musial 22. Nolan Ryan 23. Mickey Mantle 24. Walter Johnson 25. Sammy Sosa 26. Satchel Paige 27. Greg Maddux 28. Cap Anson 29. Manny Ramirez 30. Bob Feller 31. Christy Matthewson 32. Mike Schmidt 33. Joe Morgan 34. Roberto Clemente 35. Vladimir Guerrero 36. Dale Murphy 37. Johnny Bench 38. Jim Edmonds 39. Todd Helton
  10. Sam Fuld. And wow, good thing he said that, now that all those teams will stop clogging up the phone lines with offers for Fuld he can get some work done.
  11. lol Angels, good job missing out on Cabrera
  12. 1st round playoff matchup. The Giants and Chargers defenses seem relatively similar, and McNabb is supposed to play. Any thoughts?
  13. Again, it's not like they took Texas in front of us. KU's fans pretty much embarrassed themselves at Arrowhead. They sold a bunch of their allotment to Mizzou fans second hand, and despite the ticket advantage of the home game, a distance advantage from Arrowhead to Lawrence compared to CoMo, and the fact that their tickets were given to them as part of the season ticket package(Mizzou did not), they were outclassed in terms of environment. The likely reason the B12 championship showing was poor(which is the first I've heard of it) is that it's hard to get large groups to travel to back to back neutral sites, especially when the latter is significantly more expensive and about 5 times further away. A bowl game is a different animal, as people plan for that coming into the season.
  14. Meph beat you to the punch on the Teahen rumor, and since the other players have been mentioned in active threads I'm going to go ahead and lock this one.
  15. PMR says he's not a very good defensive CF. As to why the Pirates would deal him, maybe they want to fast track McCutchen, I dunno.
  16. Deal something less valuable than Marshall for McLouth, sign Fukudome, then make a run at somebody like Lincecum with Pie+Marshall? McLouth and Murton could platoon, or either could play full time if they break out, with Fukudome's position depending on which one that is. Z, Hill, Lilly, Lincecum, Marquis Wood/Howry/Marmol/Dempster/Wuertz/Eyre Soriano Fukudome Lee Ramirez DeRosa/Murton Soto/DeRosa McLouth/Soto Theriot or Cedeno
  17. That would pretty much ensure that no non-BCS conference school would ever make a BCS game again.
  18. Like most relievers, it looked like a couple bad outings shaped Ascanio's MLB numbers last year, especially since he only threw 16 IP. 2 awful outings: 1.2 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 0 K, 1 HR 11 other outings: 14.1 IP, 4 ER, 11 H, 4 BB, 13 K, 2 HR (for rate fans: 2.51 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 3.25 K/BB, 8.2 K/9)
  19. At last there is room on the bench for that elusive middle infielder. No Ascanio in this year's BA Handbook. Anyone have anything about his stuff? A BA search shows that he was listed as one of the best fastballs in AA last year.
  20. what's the point in getting him unless we move Pie for starting pitching/SS help? He'll probably hit lefties better than Pie but he certainly won't hit righties as well. McLouth for a crappy reliever is a really good value move. If the organization is high on Colvin, dealing Pie and using McLouth as a bridge to him makes a lot of sense. I'd rather the Cubs not count on Colvin for anything at this point in his professional career, but I get what you are saying. Yeah, and even if Colvin flames out this year, McLouth is still only 26, and has the history to be able to be a capable offensive CF. Too bad he's below average defensively there, though.
  21. They sold the pick without any knowledge of who it would be. That disconnect makes a huge difference.
  22. Are you talking about giving away Hamilton? That's a misrepresentation of what actually happened with him.
