  1. That's quite a stretch. Could be a couple pitchers who have the stuff to exploit him and have made their pitches over two days. Maybe he's not picking the ball up well with the new field's batter's eye. Maybe he's doing it to throw us off the trail that he's really a cyborg, it could be a lot of different things.
  2. Terrence Wheatley is a second round pick? My goodness, I think Will Franklin beat him for about a half dozen 40 yard gains in their game against each other.
  3. A .373 BABIP and he can't crack a .700 OPS. You almost have to try to do that.
  4. Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but is Gameday not working for anyone else? It may be a firefox plugin thing on my end, but ESPN's worked earlier.
  5. I've been trying to keep up with them a little bit being a local team and all, and they have to be excited to get the top talent in the draft at #5. I haven't read back to their pick at 15, but what do you think of Albert? A lot of people had Albert going at the #5. That's pretty amazing when you think about what actually happened. Oh wow, that's stellar. Hopefully they can keep it going with their second rounder.

  7. Oswalt is not trending in a positive direction. He may be hurt, he's a small frame to be bringing his stuff for that many years. Plus, he's the guy who wants to retire at around this age and take his big tractor he got from the Stros and go home. He's not a good target for a multitude of reasons.
  8. Samardzija has given up 3 runs through 2, thanks to 2 hits and 5 walks. At least he's K'ed two as well. Ceda's given up a pair of runs through 3, due to 4 hits(2 doubles) and a walk. He's K'ed 5.
  9. I'm pretty shocked at how far Martin Rucker has fallen. I know he had some injury troubles and therefore wasn't high on the measurables stuff, but the stuff about him being an inadequate blocker seems to be getting blown out of proportion. The fact that no one man can tackle him(and certainly no one defensive back) seems to be getting lost in the shuffle.
  10. very funny, Samardzija striking a guy out in less than 19 innings of work, what a kidder
  11. Berg really racks up those ground balls. Good to see Thomas get back on track as well.
  12. That's like saying Pitcher X is a fly ball pitcher - sure they were hit harder than you'd like and went over the fence and not in the outfielder's glove but he can't control that. Wuertz is getting crushed right now. Not really. Flyball pitcher = bad, groundball = good. which is not relevant to this discussion and not the question. The fact is Wuertz is getting drilled and you can't just ignore it because he's a groundball pitcher. He didn't say that Wuertz is a groundball pitcher, he said that "he gave up two groundballs, which is exactly what you want".
  13. The way I heard it was that you'll win 50 games and you'll lose 50 games, how you deal with the rest is how good you are.
  14. That pitch wasn't even close, you've gotta be kidding me.
  15. haha, Holliday upset that pitch right down the plate gets him rung up
  16. Marquis, you cannot throw from an upright position. BEND
  17. Tulowitzki diving stop to his left, flip to Barmes who bare handed it and fired to first for a DP.
  18. Impressive at both ends. Too bad umpires are lenient enough that they won't call Barmes for pulling his leg early.
  19. If memory serves, Marmol threw a change when he was a starter. It wasn't nearly on par with his fastball or slider, but he had it. Am I remembering right?
  20. He's the guy who was writing at The Other Fifteen. Great stuff Colin, welcome.
  21. How do those numbers change when the cutoff is from the beginning of 07? I think that's about as far back as you can fairly go in the comparison, though I suspect your point will stand. 2007: Marquis: 1.46 ERA/ 12.1 IP/ 11 H/ 8 K/ .244 BAA Hill: 4.94 ERA/ 23.2 IP/ 19 H/ 25 K/ .218 BAA I was just about to add this. Hill seems unlucky here(especially since he only walked 5 guys in that split), but when you give up 4 HR in that short a span, it's not surprising his ERA is that high. I don't mind Hill being skipped to avoid the Brewers, the only thing that bothers me is that he's going to be going 9 days without pitching. Maybe there'll be an extra inning game sunday against the nationals we can use him in or something.
  22. You see, it's funny because it's bigger than a normal sized hat.
  23. You can't let past mistakes dictate present/future decisions.
  24. Milwaukee's had a tougher schedule to start, but it isn't that big a gap. SOS When you consider that their SOS is buoyed by 5 games against the Cards, who don't stand to remain a .600 Winning Pct. team, and the Cubs SOS is from facing the Mets and Phillies, who are slightly under where they're expected to be, the difference is pretty much nil.
