  1. Dempster pitching the 9th is much worse than anything that has happened to Marmol this year. Especially since Wuertz hasn't pitched since the Cold War.
  2. A Fontenot/Murton platoon would probably come relatively close to matching Soriano's production. Much less power, but a good bit more OBP.
  3. If Wuertz is not the guy pitching the 9th I will be very annoyed.
  4. Tony Thomas went 1 for 2 with a double and 3 walks tonight, good to see.
  5. Hoffpauir can come up tomorrow since he'll be replacing someone on the DL.
  6. k thnx idiot Give me a break. People were jumping with joy around here when the Pujols news broke. That's an exaggeration at best. I think the most excited reactions came from those that don't want Cardinals' fans to have an excuse that they didn't win the division, which is hardly jumping for joy. I just think its ridiculous to post something like that when within the past 24 hours there have been plenty of posts about how great it was for Pujols to get hurt. I think everyone agrees that it was ridiculous to post that.
  7. This umpiring crew has to have some sort of pool to see how insanely bad they can call balls and strikes and not get reprimanded.
  8. Three straight hits from the murderer's row of LaRue, Looper, and Ryan. Well, on the bright side, at least the Cards are putting away Dusty Baker's Reds -- probably for good. I was getting a tad nervous about them. If the Cards can put away the Stros, Crew, and Reds......then collapse later on, I think we'll all take it. The Reds were in last place and were 3-5 in their last two series before they played the Cards.
  9. Three straight hits from the murderer's row of LaRue, Looper, and Ryan.
  10. We're not going to tolerate accidents? We're not going to tolerate Soriano getting drilled with a pitch near his face. That's an incredibly myopic point of view.
  11. Matt Murton fanboys are gleefully giggling. Hoffpauir was coming up anyway, this just gives a reprieve to whoever they wanted to send down I'm imagining. I hope not, we don't need to be at 13 pitchers any more.
  12. We're not going to tolerate accidents? Who say's it was an accident? Watching the play for one, but Mizzou said he didn't care if it was intentional or not, meaning we're beaning people if it was an accident.
  13. April Ankiel: .290/.372/.520/.892 Schumaker: .317/.400/.436/.836 May-June Ankiel: .225/.300/.416/.716 Schumaker: .294/.347/.413/.760
  14. The Cards have 30 games til the All-Star Break, without Wainwright or Pujols. They play 17 of those games on the road. 19 of those games are against Philly(3/3 Home/Road), the Mets(4 Home), Detroit(3 Road), Boston(3 Road), and us(3 Home). If they aren't careful they could be 8-10 games back by the break, if we don't fall off too much. EDIT: And if either have a setback, it doesn't get easier for them schedule-wise. 4 games against the Padres to start, then Milwaukee(4), New York, Atlanta(4), Philly, LA, the Cubs, and Florida all in a row until mid-August
  15. This is my favorite Oh no, the Cubs are only playing .600 baseball(21-14) at night!
  16. Larry and Lou need to stay away from Hill. Change his mechanics so he's quicker to the plate, well done fellas.
  17. This is getting depressing Rich. Throw strikes por favor.
  18. They need to stop throwing him mulitple innings. Two of those 4 outings he was great through one or 1+ innings, and when they sent him out there to start yet another inning, he gave up runs.
  19. He already said "journalism people".
  20. Nice to see Coleman and Jackson sign. They're the two second day picks I'm most intrigued about.
  21. Look at his minor league success. He was very, very, very good as a starter. Show me who will get batters out reliably like Marmol in the 8th inning, and I'll support a move to the rotation for him. It's not like Lou hasn't been trying to find someone else to help in that regard. Nobody on our current roster has been able to be as reliable in that role. You understand we're talking about '09, right? Guys pop up and become good to great relievers all the time. Marmol and Wuertz are examples of this on our roster alone. Good to great starters do not come out of nowhere unless they're instructed by Dave Duncan, so it might be more efficient to use Marmol in the rotation. And Marmol has a 3rd pitch, a changeup, that he doesn't need to use in the pen. It's not filthy, and still needs some refinement, but it's not as if he was a 2 pitch pitcher throughout the minors.
