  1. Theriot's OBP is an even .360 with CS included. That's pretty significant.
  2. You want one of the only NL RFs that had a worse OPS than Fukudome? Why bother when you have Fukudome? Yes Hermida is only 24 (a significant advantage over Fukudome), but he also costs talent to acquire, for a net result of a short-term lateral move. The Cubs aren't going to do this, they want to win now. Because Hermida is cost-effective and probably undervalued due to his inability to hit at Pro Player(.203/.273/.312/.584; .288/.364/.487/.851 on the road). It's a Michael Barrett situation.
  3. When was the last time Hendry traded away a player to open up a hole so he could replace it? When was the last time that happened when the player wasn't disgruntled?
  4. Next Sunday, the 19th.
  5. Mock BCS Standings(Using actual polls BCS uses) No. Team Pct. 1 Oklahoma .936 2 Alabama .929 3 Missouri .912 4 Texas .843 5 Penn St. .761 6 LSU .752 7 USC .619 8 Vanderbilt .616 9 Utah .615 10 Georgia .602 11 Texas Tech .563 12 BYU .503
  6. Well, they can be related, but to say they go hand in hand is silly. To say that strikeouts are the main reason they'll never be the same is even more ridiculous, especially when you consider that Fontenot outperformed Pedroia in the time he played this season. Obviously that doesn't mean he would have if he played an entire season, but he pointed out that strikeouts will keep Fonenot from being as good as Pedroia. Okay, so why didn't they keep him from doing that this season in a pretty big chunk of at-bats? Think about all the crappy players who don't strike out and then think about all the elite hitters that do. In Fontenot's case, yes, they go hand in hand. Jeff wasn't making a blanket statement about strikeouts, he's pointing out that Fontenot's inability to make contact(especially his 25% K rate against LHP) is part of his physical/mechanical shortcomings that keep him from being a player of Pedroia's caliber.
  7. Of course they're related, don't be silly. Pedroia and Fontenot aren't similar for many reasons, age, defense, speed, but most importantly, platoon split. Pedroia can hit right hand pitching quite well(especially for a RH 2B), Fontenot can't hit LHP. Fontenot is perfect for the role he had this year, platoon 2B and LH bench bat. He'd be great in a platoon with say, Ryan Theriot, if you wanted to get rid of DeRosa.
  8. Okay, I need a ton of scoring from New Orleans without Lance Moore doing anything. Make it happen.
  9. If Z wasn't poised out there, what would it look like if he was? The worst thing he did during that sequence of errors was smile and stick out his tongue, and maybe hop with excitement as the first one was being fielded(loose usage of the term). Then he went back to striking guys out and getting ground balls.
  10. Mizzou/OSU will be on ESPN. This game worries me quite a bit. There aren't too many offenses that I think are capable of hanging with Mizzou, but I think OK State might be able to. Good thing it's at home and on a big stage.
  11. Thank you for keeping me from sports armageddon, Mizzou.
  12. In determining whether or not a QB crossed the line of scrimmage for an illegal forward pass, is it where his feet are or where the ball is? McCoy just got a TD pass out of a desperation flip around the LOS. EDIT: After the break they say as long as the full body isn't across, then it's a legal pass.
  13. Are you kidding me Kentucky, how do you unsuccessfully fall on a fumble that you had time to wait for?
  14. Juice has gotten pretty good and stepping up and throwing the deep ball.
  15. The Cubs beat Billingsley twice this year, scoring 6 runs in 11 IP.
  16. Those LD% aren't very low. What happened to the rest of his at bats? Off the plate?
  17. And then they drop two wide open passes and overthrow a deep route on 4th down.
  18. Oh wow, ISU got the onside kick, and it looks like it was way too close to overturn it.
  19. You could see the anger in his eyes when he turned and walked to the dugout on the dropped strike 3 that got by Martin.
  20. Our grit factor forgot he brought his glove to the ballpark yesterday, so I'm not sure we need more of that.
  21. I'm curious what the attendance figures looked like when Peavy pitched and when anyone not named Peavy pitched. 29,076 - Not Jake Peavy 34,245 - Jake Peavy This season only. In total those numbers come to 67k more than what ESPN has for overall attendance.
  22. Off the bat I said "popped him up". Then I saw Edmonds running and just fell into a state of dismay.
  23. I think I'd like to upgrade at QB. Someone send me an offer if interested.
  24. Pie plays tremendous defense, and he finished the season strong with the bat(.300/.391/.450/.841 since his callup). Over the course of a short series, Pie is just as likely to come up with a hit or two, especially since he's got better history/tools than Hoffpauir.
  25. I have a couple different obligations from 8-9:30 on Wednesday, so I'm hoping that Game 1 is in hand by the time I have to leave. Game 3 is right in the middle of Mizzou-Nebraska, so I have no idea how I'm going to manage that.
