  1. Tarlandas Mitchell was very good as well: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 6/1 K/BB :-k Look 4 posts up. Okay.

  3. Muskat is reporting Vitters to Daytona.
  4. For the season, an .880 OPS would be 5th among catchers w/ 150+ PA's.
  5. My guess is that Cashner's history as a reliever is why they're being very cautious with his workload. If his future is in the pen, then he's still getting his regular innings as it stands now. If he's being groomed as a starter, then he gets to extend himself every 5 days without a huge jump in innings that would leave him susceptible to injury.
  6. I wonder if Rusin would jump to Peoria if he signed soon.
  7. I don't see why you think it's not acceptable for GM's to be held t different standards based on payroll. It is clearly an enormous advantage to have a payroll like the Cubs, as opposed to the Pirates or somebody like that. It's enormous. Yes, I'm not saying that we should be super stoked that we have a better record than the Pirates. I am saying it's unfair to criticize the actual success the team has had under Hendry(over teams with big payrolls, small payrolls, negative payrolls, and payrolls with prime numbers) because he took advantage of what he has. Stuff like "thank the Pirates the Cubs made the playoffs in 2003" or "the only reason they made the '07/'08 playoffs was because of their spending spree" is nonsense.
  8. I really don't understand why Hendry is almost criticized for having a higher payroll than another team, or for taking advantage of another team's shortcomings(like the Ramirez trade). His job is to make the best team he can with what he has available to him, he should get credit for doing so. If you want to say he may not be able to do similar things in the future if his resources are more limited(like they are now), that's fine. But to try to diminish Hendry's accomplishments because he capitalized on advantageous circumstances doesn't make any sense. And please, there's no need for the name calling, and I'm not talking about a specific post. A lot of these posts are coming across as pretty angry at an individual, and it's not necessary.
  9. Fortunately, they all have struck out enough guys to have a K/BB of at least 2(wait, Stevens is 1 K short, so 1.97 or something), they all carry a BAA under .190, and they've given up a combined 4 HR in 119 IP. Also, whether you want to term it "selling high" or whatever, the Cubs definitely got more in return for DeRosa than the Indians did; and from what we can gather as fans, DeRosa seemed to be a much hotter commodity when he was dealt from Cleveland than when Hendry traded him.
  10. Cashner was wild, but effective. 4 IP, 2 H(both 2B), 0 R, 3/3 K/BB. Castro went 1/4 with a BB and K. Everyone hitting for Peoria so far, with 14 runs thru 8. Vitters is 2/5 with a K, Rundle is 4/5 with a 2B, and Flaherty is 2/4 with a BB.
  11. Their first goal really killed us. I don't think we played it terribly leading up to Luciano receiving the ball, then Spector was right there and was unlucky enough to reach too far to deflect, and the shot was good enough to beat Howard. After that, they had new life. Like USS mentioned, Bradley needed to bring on some fresh legs sooner than he did. And we really missed Mike, so screw you Larriondo or whatever your name is.
  12. Out of Dempster, Marquis, and who the Cubs have filled Marquis' spot with, Marquis has been the worst. Wood was let go because he was going to be very expensive, his performance is volatile, and he's a huge injury risk. He's been terrible this year, and worse than what the Cubs replaced him with.
  13. Casey? Really?
  14. Why is Alves wearing an airplane pillow
  15. Is it any part of the ball or all of the ball that has to cross the line? If it's any part, easy goal, if it has to be all of it, it was very, very close.
  16. Oh Dempsey, needed that first touch
  17. ugh, that was really unlucky
  18. Even seconds after the whistle, Tim Howard will not be trifled with your nonsense.
  19. it's uzr Yes, yes it is. And it's about as reliable as a day laborer with a drinking problem. Yes, we all understand you both have a blinding hatred of UZR.
  20. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=ss&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=0&season=2009&month=0
  21. wha? Fontenot posted a +18 UZR last year and is +20 this year in about a month's worth of games at 2B. DeRosa has never put up a positive UZR at 2B and was nearly -16 last year, and hasn't played the position yet this season. With Fontenot seemingly likely to be 20 runs better per season with the glove, DeRosa needs to maintain a very high offensive output in conjuction with Fontenot being terrible with the bat in order to be a better value.
  22. (a) chris perez is better than the names you listed. (b) i like how your PTBNL is just a five-letter asset that apparently does not differ from one team to another. Screw that noise, Chris Perez is not better than Ascanio. This is a good deal for the Cards, it sucks that it gives them another decent hitter. Can't say I'm too upset from the "where were you Hendry?" angle though. Like was mentioned before, the only place they can really make any changes is at 2B, and I don't think Fontenot and DeRosa will be too different on an offense+defense basis going forward. If they traded for somebody like Clint Barmes(although I've been pushing for him since the offseason), I wouldn't complain though.
  23. But he doesn't bat left-handed. And he's terrible. I'd rather play with a 24 man roster than with So Taguchi. Yeah, but you'd probably play with a 23 man roster as long as McGehee is on it.
