  1. Greinke's deal + inflation is basically the benchmark as long as he doesn't fall off dramatically or get hurt. I'm not diametrically opposed to putting 6/225 in front of Jake myself, but predicting the Cubs' payroll situation and the free agent market 18 months in advance isn't an easy target.
  2. I would assume Happ, Contreras, Almora in some order.
  3. The Cubs are 61-22 in their last 83 games, a 119 win pace.
  4. cubs and white sox have home games first and last weekends of May, which I always thought they tried to avoid (having both teams play at home at the same time) that's something that is impossible to avoid in two team cities. It only happens a couple times a year so I think the schedulers are pretty deliberate about avoiding it where possible, or at least they used to be.
  5. Almora with a HR luv luv luv to see the isop climb
  6. Again, the deadline is not exclusively for players that can help over the ensuing 3 months. Prices are higher yes, but not prohibitively so in many cases. If there were someone underperforming or hurt in the rotation, the deadline would be a prime time to plug that hole and add strength to the 2017 rotation, for example.
  7. All 5 Cubs starting pitchers are in the Top 30 of MLB in fWAR. 3 of those are in the Top 12 in RA9-WAR, including Arrieta the far and away the leader Also: [tweet] [/tweet]
  8. Everyone knows Ben Zobrist is a perfectly normal person. What this book presupposes is, maybe he isn't?
  9. Jake Arrieta: King of Weak Contact This was the biggest reason(outside of homerism) I didn't have a problem with Arrieta winning the Cy Young last year. He's underrated by FIP-based measures because he induces more weak contact than anyone.
  10. [tweet]https://twitter.com/BenCarsley/status/723340922734436352[/tweet]
  11. 'you're not gonna get Ross on a play like that' luv u JD
  12. I say 7-3 is a goal, better than that is great, 6-4 is fine, 5-5 or worse is a disappointment.
  13. And now a HR for Almora, he's hitting .351/.400/.486, still with the 5/5 BB/K
  14. please no DP Zobrist, I want Rizzo as the tying run at the plate
  15. It's been 15 games Heyward has a 27% LD% and a .225 BABIP entering today Swing changes take time to stick
  16. That ball drops, Heyward's didn't pretty emblematic of the way the game has gone
  17. good hitting those two at bats, neither of those were bad pitches
  18. Strike 3 just looked like a nasty pitch to me, but I wasn't looking up the whole at bat
  19. lol there's the pitch that Hendricks didn't get, sigh
