  1. The Cubs are very clearly better than all of these teams, I'm not going to worry too much about which of them has a 2 or 3 percent better chance than the other when I can hope for the maximum amount of pain for the teams I dislike. Since the Pirates and Marlins(who are no angels themselves) aren't going to cooperate, I want the Cardinals to miss the playoffs entirely, the Mets to die a very quick death, and to smite the even year nonsense ourselves.
  2. That was a bit of an unsatisfying look at the pitchers' impact on BABIP suppression. I know there's only so much you can do to *prove* that cause, but the Cubs have given 27% of their total innings this year to starters with elite soft contact percentages, guys who each have had multiple national writers writing about their ability to suppress BABIP with low quality contact. That seems like a potentially huge driver in such a high UZR and defensive efficiency, especially since neither of those starters are elite strikeout artists this year.
  3. i believe kenney has stated at one point or another that the money will be put back into the team, but that since it's a separate entity, it won't have to go through the revenue sharing stuff and maybe whatever the covenant restrictions were with the debt obligations? i could totally be pulling out of my ass and i'm definitely speaking out of turn, as i have no idea about any of that stuff...just a vague recollection of what was said. i think kenney said the same about the ricketts owned rooftops. I would not be surprised if he said that. I would be surprised if it happened. The rooftops are essentially another section of seating and that probably is the case. But the hotel is going to need to function as its own entity and nobody should expect payroll to rise based on the success of that business. Agreed, I haven't read a bunch of stuff on the hotel but I've never considered it as something that would be funneling to the Cubs directly.
  4. Does the fact that grown ups are keeping track(possibly without a scoreboard) really change much? They're still getting killed even if you ignore what the actual count is. I would guess the behavior is probably more frustrating/damaging than any knowledge of the exact number.
  5. We're pretty close to needing a thread for Carl: https://medium.com/@InsideEdgeScout/what-about-us-said-relief-pitchers-doing-incredible-things-that-no-one-notices-bf06f83b06a7
  6. [tweet] [/tweet]
  7. I didn't see video of everything, but apparently Montero started towards the mound(might have gotten there), then was called back. Then once he was back the infielders converged on the mound and the dugout told Montero to join them, and West got pissed and grabbed Montero to try to get him to stay put. Maddon hopped out of the dugout with a "what the @*#!& did you do that for?" and that pretty much ensured an ejection.
  8. Someone get me a slowed down recording of Hendricks' laugh in answering that first question.
  9. They both said Scherzer because of the difference in innings and K's. Scherzer has almost 25 more IP than any Cubs starter That's largely because he has 30 starts and most of the Cubs rotation has 28.
  10. that was a straight-up sub, no double switch You win this round Matheny
  11. Matheny just double switched his best hitter out of the game, presumably because he made the last out. This ignores that in order to actually score any runs that spot has to come up again, but in the absence of other evidence Matheny gonna Matheny
  12. will he smile if he pulls it off? No smiles, and good-game asspats only. No high fives. He only raises his arms to throw and catch baseballs. A Dartmouth man finds raising your arms as uncouth as raising your voice, you know.
  13. Their alternative is Peralta so........ They should play Peralta.
  14. Gyorko is a career average 2B who was -17 in a few games at SS. So the Cardinals have started him at SS 20 times now.
  15. FWIW, UMFan's tweet probably works better. Bob's is well stated but doesn't give any call to action.
  16. ahahaha HENDRICKS? I mean, I love his game, but good grief you pick him? Must be the weirdo pitching obsessives vote.
  17. re: Montgomery, I thought I heard Len say this weekend that his next start was his last, did I make that up?
  18. Greetings from beautiful Olympia, WA! Go CUBS !!
  19. 3.32 in 10 starts since the All-Star break. You're right that 2015 Jake is not here, but the one that is isn't so bad.
  20. I don't think you can continue this when he's got Chapman up I can and will Maddon probably yelled "are you sure you don't want to appeal this?" at their dugout on his way out to the postgame high five line.
