There weren't exactly a lot of pinch hit opportunities by the time Montomery took the mound, and Edwards was the last available reliever. But I do think that our bench features enough pop that Joe should consider replacing LaStella or Coghlan with a fresh arm. Though I'd go with Joe Smith, who was absolutely phenomenal after returning from the DL. We got through 12 innings despite using 5 of our relievers(including one who could be a long-man)for a combined 2 innings. We don't need an 8th reliever. I'm open to the argument that taking Hammel as a long reliever frees up Montgomery to be used to slay lefties, which is a feature for all the NL teams. I'm also perfectly comfortable with all our RHRP facing lefties too, but there's value in putting the hitter at his platoon disadvantage.
