  1. Jansen going for a 2 inning save makes me incredibly happy
  2. [tweet]https://twitter.com/statcast/status/787841842431729665[/tweet]
  3. Montgomery it's awfully noble that you want to clear Seager for a RH reliever next inning but if you could just throw a got dang strike I'd appreciate it
  4. Correct, but instincts take over that you have to go at that point. I'm also pretty sure there's a condition of the rule about 'intentionally dropping' a ball, but Baez played it smoothly enough that it's at best a gray area.
  5. Cubs will get at least 1 in the 7th, need to make sure that if it's 1 it ties the game.
  6. My homer self says yes, my thinking brain says Kershaw is hitting his spots better and Grandal is a better receiver than Contreras.
  7. Gonna guess Joe was anticipating Pederson getting PH for if he brought Wood in. But none of their righties on the bench really scare me more than Pederson against a righty even a very good one You need K's or ground balls, and since Edwards has little platoon split he's your best shot at either.
  8. I don't understand why Hendricks is pitching to Reddick there when you've already swapped from Montgomery to Wood(and therefore Hendricks being due up doesn't matter).
  9. Hm, if Hendricks gets Turner to start the 6th, do you let him face Gonzalez?
  10. This is obvious but keeping the deficit at 1 is so important. As it stands Kershaw still has to dance a razor's edge, even giving him a 2nd run makes a big difference.
  11. Kyle I swear to bob if you don't start throwing first pitch strikes
  12. Jason I don't think the Rowengartner placement in the batter's box is going to work too well
  13. He was never going to go 7 against leftypalooza, so as long as he limits damage this is fine.
  14. This Ignite supplement commercial is soooo close to being a parody
  15. hey camera guy I did not appreciate you making it look like Reddick parked it 400 feet away
  16. Their runs came on a fly ball that is never anything but a flyout going over the fence, and 2 runs on a bloop/'walk'/routine groundball/hard hit single. Really gave us the business.
  17. Yeah, I've heard that a number of them were complaining about the "lucky" defensive plays. The best response I heard to that was that the Cubs defense is not a bug, it's a feature. Seriously, like these are the things that happen when you don't put Howie Kendrick in left field, guys catch the ball.
  18. Edwards' status is a big factor there. He hasn't been used back to back once all year to try to keep him healthy, I wonder if they let him go tonight with an off day tomorrow.
  19. This is good: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=30577
  20. Yep, the lefties are coming. Zastryzny, Montgomery, and Wood are gonna get a workout until/unless Lester has to pitch again. Speaking of bullpens, it's a good time to take stock of recent usage. Jansen threw 51 pitches on Thursday and has 2 days rest since then Blanton threw 28 pitches yesterday after throwing 4 of 5 NLDS games Baez threw 34 pitches yesterday No Cub reliever threw more than 17 pitches yesterday(Chapman) and all of them were on at least 3 days rest, so with the off day tomorrow it's safe to say everyone is good to go.
  21. I'll be interested to see how Joe handles the third OF spot not taken by Fowler and Zobrist/Bryant. With Contreras's bat in the lineup there's a little more freedom to go defense first, although I wouldn't be surprised if he split the difference and started Almora. And agree on the series. If the Cubs beat Kershaw, the Dodgers have to beat Arrieta while throwing a lesser LHP or face the consequence of Maeda/Urias trying to stave off elimination. Losing today puts an inordinate amount of pressure on them given how the rotation is aligned.
