Jansen got 2 strikes out of the zone and no balls called in the zone Kershaw got 2 strikes out of the zone and 2 balls called in the zone Hendricks got 1 strike out of the zone and 3 balls called in the zone Chapman got 0 strikes out of the zone and 1 balls called in the zone So -6 on strikes for the Cubs today. I have no idea what the normal deviance is. Because I was curious, the Cubs were +2 on strikes yesterday, +0 before Rondon entered in the bottom of the 9th. -

Montgomery it's awfully noble that you want to clear Seager for a RH reliever next inning but if you could just throw a got dang strike I'd appreciate it

Correct, but instincts take over that you have to go at that point. I'm also pretty sure there's a condition of the rule about 'intentionally dropping' a ball, but Baez played it smoothly enough that it's at best a gray area.

Cubs will get at least 1 in the 7th, need to make sure that if it's 1 it ties the game.

My homer self says yes, my thinking brain says Kershaw is hitting his spots better and Grandal is a better receiver than Contreras.

Gonna guess Joe was anticipating Pederson getting PH for if he brought Wood in. But none of their righties on the bench really scare me more than Pederson against a righty even a very good one You need K's or ground balls, and since Edwards has little platoon split he's your best shot at either.

I don't understand why Hendricks is pitching to Reddick there when you've already swapped from Montgomery to Wood(and therefore Hendricks being due up doesn't matter).

Hm, if Hendricks gets Turner to start the 6th, do you let him face Gonzalez?

This is obvious but keeping the deficit at 1 is so important. As it stands Kershaw still has to dance a razor's edge, even giving him a 2nd run makes a big difference.

Their runs came on a fly ball that is never anything but a flyout going over the fence, and 2 runs on a bloop/'walk'/routine groundball/hard hit single. Really gave us the business.

Yeah, I've heard that a number of them were complaining about the "lucky" defensive plays. The best response I heard to that was that the Cubs defense is not a bug, it's a feature. Seriously, like these are the things that happen when you don't put Howie Kendrick in left field, guys catch the ball.

Edwards' status is a big factor there. He hasn't been used back to back once all year to try to keep him healthy, I wonder if they let him go tonight with an off day tomorrow.
