  1. TIL Ross is hitting .283/.418/.528/.946 against LHP this year
  2. We should probably take Joe Panik and his 1-0 career record in elimination games at his word.
  3. Yep, a game of 4th starters where the bullpens will be big, and Law, Romo and Black all threw 30 pitches. Take the same approach as you did with Bumgarner and you'll likely have better luck against both starter and pen.
  4. Yeah it looked pretty clear that he was not on the base at all
  5. Montgomery will pitch the 13th if we don't score. Maybe even if we do, with 3 lefties, a pitcher, and Span due up
  6. He's been starting recently, he's at 40ish pitches, and Edwards is the last man in the pen. Unless you have a scoring situation where you need to hit for him he has to keep going because you know you need 6 outs to win.
  7. why does it seem like all of our lefties have hit laser beams off LHP in this game with no luck
  8. You also don't need to double switch a pitcher into the heart of the order for the 2nd time tonight if you do this
  9. Man I don't really understand the bullpen logic Grimm is great against lefties, let him continue, then in the 10th Edwards can go after Posey/Pence and then you go to Montgomery for as long as you need
  10. We should've let the ex-closer start the inning. It might not have made a huge difference, but in a one run game I don't see any reason for Wood to be pitching in the 8th inning. Literally anyone remaining in the bullpen would've been a better choice.
  11. I'd probably prefer Bryant in RF and Zobrist/Baez on the IF, but those are the 8 I prefer. Montero will have the largest defensive impact of any one player, and you can't afford to punt a third of the lineup by starting him and Heyward against an elite LHP. Plus if the game is close you can quickly get Heyward in after Soler hits in the middle innings.
  12. Also the Cubs have a 116 wRC+ against LHP this year, highest in baseball even with the handicap of the pitcher's spot. So while facing Kershaw and Hill up to 4 times wouldn't be fun, they can't be looking forward to facing this lineup either.
  13. Bumgarner threw 119 pitches in the wild card game, he'll be starting on 4 days rest on Monday. Here's Bumgarner the last 3 years coming off 110+ pitches when he has 4 days rest: The highlighted piece shows how he does in those starts compared to those seasons on the whole(postseason included). Since the season totals include the games following 110+ pitches on 4 days rest, the gap is a bit larger than that. In other words, when Bumgarner has a high pitch count outing and doesn't get additional rest, you can basically tack on a run to his ERA and that's the pitcher you're facing.
  14. That implies Pence having a level of control over his tongue that I'm not willing to concede.
  15. He crushed a double and jogged part way to first because it was nearly gone. He was easily safe at 2nd, but because the ball hit perfectly off the door in LF they got it in fast enough to put a tag on him while he slid and review showed he came off the base for a millisecond.
  16. 103 mph and dancing, plus Squints's glasses looked fogged up. Not fair.
  17. Not exactly, but this can get you an idea: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=chapmar01&year=Career&t=p#clutc The short version is that 104 mph doesn't care about game state.
  18. this could look very stupid, but Michael at BN had a good point that September was a lot like spring training again for Rondon, and that resulted in a lot of needless worry about him then
  19. Russell's throwing motion is so fun, like an abbreviated happy gilmour swing putting the whole body into it
