  1. Joe killed Morrow is a low-key incredible take
  2. Have we really seen much of a bounce back from Schwarber? His OPS is 42 points higher, all due to higher BA and OBP, but his BABIP is exactly 42 points higher this year. His offensive value is pretty similar to last year and his change in WAR (from 0 to 1.6) seems to be heavily influenced by improvements in defensive value. To me there might be improvement but its slight compared to the 2nd half of last year. *waits for TT to bring out the fancy stats to make me look like a fool* His OBP is 40 points higher, his wRC+ went from 102 to 114, and he's been worth 3.0 fWAR. The defensive value is part of that and likely not 100% sustainable, but we're much more confident of what he is and will be than at this point last year. He's not taken a Baez-esque leap to be worth as much with the bat as, say, Rizzo, and he does get shielded from LHP a bit(some of that is being defensively replaced), but RH corner OF platoon help is never an actual problem if that's the worst case scenario.
  3. Given Baez's breakout and Schwarber's bounce back, the only real point of concern is Contreras, and I'm 95% sure he's just hitting a wall from overuse and the accumulated playoff games. That's pretty easily fixable with a stronger backup or more commitment to Caratini from Joe. Outside of that, Almora, Happ, and Russell could all disappear tomorrow, and you're one signing away from a defensive alignment of Schwarber/Heyward/Harper in the OF and Bryant/Baez/Zobrist/Rizzo in the IF with Bote still around. There's too many numbers to worry about there actually being persistent black holes in the coming years.
  4. I can't figure out why they went with that formation again for Mexico. That player pool(and really the player pool at large) seems really set up well to do a 4-3-3 that retreats to a 4-2-3-1 against good teams. You've got a bunch of young defensive mids with some attacking prowess(McKennie, Adams, Acosta, Roldan, kinda Trapp, Delgado if you're gonna waste time calling him in, Canouse I think), and guys like Weah, Pulisic, even Zardes/Wood to an extent would seem to have better roles in that setup than the 4-1-4-1 they rolled out there. Yedlin and Robinson can add width if you're worried about too many central players too.
  5. Matt Miazga is my new favorite player
  6. I know right? I'm assuming you're talking about the random "choke you out" part lol? Also, choking people out isn't especially satisfying, for what its worth. http://78.media.tumblr.com/5c812d8e8210534178594248b09ed0ef/tumblr_mgw7z2osc51rlcu0uo1_400.gif
  7. guess who threw more than 50 pitches for iowa on sunday, is on the roster, and hasn’t pitched since
  8. USA/Brazil at the top of the hour [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] we are gonna get worked
  9. I think this is what they would do. Not 3 of the games but maybe 1 punted to October 1st. Won't matter as Cubs will have division and #1 seed locked up probably just after white sox series only 1 being punted means playing on both off days, the one in between Arizona/Chicago would be brutal given the start times, and that would also create 21 straight days with a game to end the year. I'd guess they do one between the home series and save the other 2 for if necessary at the end of the year. That said, I might have exaggerated the possibility of a rainout all 3 days, I'm probably projecting based on the forecast around here, where we're supposed to get like 6+ inches of rain starting tomorrow.
  10. Very real possibility the entire weekend is rained out. The Brewers are at home so they won't be affected, and the Cardinals are in Detroit where it's not supposed to rain til Sunday. There's 2 off days scheduled the rest of the year, each of the next 2 thursdays, one in between home series, the other in between an Arizona night game and a day game at the Cell. I wonder how they'd handle it, punt to the end of the year to see if they actually need to play the games for the division/home field?
  11. I'm far enough behind that this might already be proven wrong but this feels like Caratini goes deep or GIDP and nothing in between
  12. No kidding, pop time on that had to be fantastic, plus Gore didn't get an otherworldy jump, and he was still easily safe.
  13. Hook it to my veins
  14. To put some numbers to it: Edwards has given up a run in 10 appearances out of 48(21%), with 2 of those being unearned and 3 others being from the same week in June. Strop has given up a run in 8 of 57 appearances(14%), none of those were unearned. Cishek has given up a run in 14 of 67(21%), with one unearned and 3 of those coming in the last 2 weeks. Giving up a run is a very crude example of 'not having it', especially since for most of the year all of those guys can be pulled when they run into trouble, but it's better than nothing.
  15. can’t pump at third, have to push off and throw right away
  16. Shaw was hitting for Kratz, so we’re spared that particular timeline
