  1. If only there was something in his past that suggested Beckett might get hurt....
  2. When they won 105 games and went to the World Series? Last year sucked. As I recall Morris and Carpenter weren't a huge part of that by the end of the season because of ineffectiveness and injury respectively.
  3. Go below the main index and you will see "Mark all forums read". I think that's what you're looking for.
  4. While I agree that it's premature to pencil in Greenberg at leadoff in '06, his .275 average comes with a .384 OBP. In the short term, he should be at the top of the order when he plays, and if he is able to keep up the pace he has been on, he should be given a shot to earn that future spot.
  5. Maybe someday he'll be as good as.....Farnsworth. Maybe.
  6. where have you been? that's the cubs' philosophy on trading their players. see farnsworth, sosa, cruz, hawkins, etc. Yeah, glad that Hawkins trade netted us a load of nothing. While it was a good deal, it doesn't change the fact that Hawkins was dealt while he was at his lowest point in performance, and therefore, likely trade value.
  7. I don't recall seeing any comments like this during Dubois's stint as starting LF, or during Patterson's slide. That could be because both of those two's slides were chop-full of strikeouts. Tough to hit those hard and right at someone. I'm not talking about that specifically, as Dusty is obviously full of it when talking about Neifi being unlucky. My question is why he doesn't seem to come to the rescue of the other struggling players, i.e Dubois and Patterson, even if his defenses are entirely untrue.
  8. I don't recall seeing any comments like this during Dubois's stint as starting LF, or during Patterson's slide.
  9. :?: The forum? I still see it above Rivalries in Premium and Regular format.
  10. I'll throw this out year since his name has been brought up. What about Dellucci as a trade target? His BABIP is right in line with expected, and he's been better on the road(.255/.417/.521/.938) than at home(.257/.397/.476/.873). Is Dellucci the one who had some procedure that he credits to improving his game(eye surgery maybe?)? He'd looks like he'd be a good fit in LF, and he's under a VERY reasonable contract(850k in '05, 950k in '06). Perhaps the Rangers view his performance as a fluke, and would part with him for some pitching help? EDIT: Yep, Dellucci had LASIK surgery this offseason, which he credits for his improved patience.
  11. And isn't that a form of trolling? :-k What? The thing that I found funny is that some people who complained about LaRussa will readily admit anything bad about Dusty Baker, making such a change in focus fruitless.
  12. Yep, 2nd too.
  13. Yeah, Kelton left third base on his own accord, hasn't played there in nearly 2 years IIRC. Calling him up to play third would be pretty futile.
  14. Hendry can't seriously be considering this. Wilson represents everything we do not want. Unless you're trying to use this as a smokescreen, any contact about Wilson is just a waste of time and resources.
  15. It's so nice to know 3 of every 5 games we have a stud going to the mound. I missed that.
  16. See baseball discussions. X-Rays negative, day-to-day.
  17. I hate your avator+username. That robot scares the living hell out of me! And Im not a scared-ish type of person either. eeek!! Not a futurama fan then? Too bad.
  18. Despite his antics, I doubt the Rangers are to the point where they'd deal Rogers, who's been their best pitcher.
  19. Dunn is the holy grail of trade targets. Prior, Z, Lee, Ramirez, and possibly Wood and/or Barrett, those are the only guys you don't consider trading to get Dunn. It's lunacy that they'd even consider trading him.
  20. A LH with Hill's curveball who leads all of Minor League baseball in K's isn't exactly a replaceable part, even if he hasn't or maybe won't reach his potential. While Huff is hitting .280 for the month, his power is still not there, which means I'd be tentative in dealing him. Dubois and a prospect? Probably, but the prospect needs to be a Connolly or a Pignatiello, since you're essentially banking on Huff to regain his power that has been missing now for 300 PA's.
  21. I think you need more than that to get Mench. He's been an all-star caliber player, and there's no motivation for Texas to move him.
  22. Just wanted to say that you're better off using our new, current batting charts at the Hardball Times: http://www.thehardballtimes.com/thtstats/main/index.php If you want the raw data from BIS, they would somehow have to be reimbursed for their effort. But they do have a fairly specific definition of line drives. I believe that there may be a "gray area" of 10% between LD and FB, but that's about it. Remember that a line drive isn't necessarily hit hard. It just comes off the bat on a certain trajectory. Welcome Studes! I really enjoy your work at THT.
  23. In a new development, the winner of the contest will receive a Peoria Chiefs baseball - signed by Sean Gallagher! Compliments of Serena. So make sure to get those entries in, you 5 that haven't. We'll make the new deadline when I can get internet access again, which probably won't be till the weekend or slightly later. So get those entries in!
  24. The difference is that Hollandsworth has proven in his career he is not capable of being a starting OF. His stint at the beginning of the year did nothing to change that.
