    What is OPS+ exactly? OPS measured against the league average, and adjusted for ballpark factors. An OPS+ over 100 is better than average, less than 100 is below average.

    Both these guys blow Dawson away, come on. They should both get in easily. If they don't the Hall will of screwed up again, but who really cares at this point? They blow Dawson away in stats, but not as impact players. But the reason they 'blow' Dawson away in stats is cuz, as I said, they played in a time in offensive inflation. If Dawson played in the '90s like Bagwell did he'd have 500 homers easy. There's no way Biggio or Bagwell "blow" Dawson away - that's ludicrous, and can only be said by someone who never saw Dawson play for an extended period of time. I think a person who would say that truly shows their age. But so many writers who vote just look at the stats unfortunately - they clearly do not excel at critical thinking. You'd think considering that Dawson was the first guy in decades to hit 49 home runs in the NL, and then there's, what, 15+ instances of players topping 50 home runs in the last 10+ years would make people scratch their heads about the possibility that hitting is easier today than it was 20 years ago. Tony got in?! Players Assoc. huh? Good for Tony! Tony=baller. Dawson also played in a great hitters park with Wrigley in the late 80s/early 90s, while Biggio/Bagwell played in an awful hitters park for half their careers at the Astrodome. Career OPS+ Dawson: 119 (High 157) Bagwell: 150 (High 213) Biggio: 116 (High 141)

    Welcome! It's tough for me to evaluate their careers, I think both kinda fall into the gray area for HOF hopefuls. If I had to guess, I'd say both probably get in, but I'll say Biggio doesn't deserve to get in, IMO. That's only after a brief look at their career numbers, so take it FWIW.

    Anyone up for bringing back the Transaction contest from last year? I'd be willing to run it again, maybe Hoops can help administrate again as well if there is interest. For those unfamiliar with the game, here are the links to last year's competition.     I think it might be a little sooner than that. I'd like to see Dubois get more playing time. But you have to admit, Hollandsworth is pretty hot right now (7h/15ab's, 8 rbi last four games). And if the Cubs want to get back into the race, Baker has not choice but to go with the hot hand. The problem is that there will now be very little opportunity for Dubois to be the "hot hand", even if Hollandsworth struggles.

Corey doesn't steal a bunch of homers a year, though. Maybe if he half the heart of a Torii Hunter, he would have some homers in his glove instead of in the stands. The wall in Minnesota isn't as high as the one in Wrigley.... he would only steal homers on the road. Those are just weak excuses. Corey needs to start stepping up in the stealing of home runs department. He has only grabbed one so far this year and that was a month or so ago. Um, I hope you're being sarcastic. People on here know I'm not a fan of Patterson, but I don't expect him to be able to jump and rob homers that are headed for the center field basket. Have you ever seen anyone else do that? Why do you expect it from Corey? My sarcasm detector is shot right now as I feel like hell and have been napping off and on all day. Hint: Burnt's old name used to be CPatt4Prez

    Sometimes it throws me off when people change avatars. The big one for me is that I mentally cluster similar posters together, and sometimes I forget to distinguish them. For example: SSR and XZero77 T2E and BK Geech and Diffusion The list goes on. Anyone else do this? BTW Geech, it took me a while to seriously read your posts when you first started posting because it felt like every one of your posts had a :shock: smiley implying some sarcasm.

    Bester news, there's just about no way he isn't a free agent next season. How so? He won't negotiate in-season with the O's? I was thinking that there's almost no way he won't be eligible after the season service time wise. That's the angle I was coming from.

Well good for you,Anybody that wants to bat 6th is never going to be anything close to Carlos Beltran. He should be developing his skills at the top of the lineup and not worrying about HRs. If his goal is to be a 6th hitter, his ceiliing is Reggie Sanders. Please read this

    Every time I see Cubway's name, I feel compelled to try to order a 6 inch meatball with cheese, onions and green peppers on wheat. Yeah, it's always good to stay healthy by ordering that wheat bread. Do you get a diet coke with your Big Macs? I have never eaten a Big Mac. True story. Neither have I. I admit that I once ordered a Big Mac when they had the Indiana Jones promotion. I threw the sandwich away, though. I just wanted the movie and the fries. Never had a Big Mac either, but I'll eat the heck out of a QP with cheese. Same here, but double the QP.

    To my knowledge, Rusch's option is player only. The Cubs have no say in whether he comes back or not with that option.

    IIRC, there isn't much outside of Brian Giles in the Free Agent market. Using a very loose definition of "stud", here's some outfielders heading into their 5th and 6th year: Adam Dunn 5th Brady Clark 5th Milton Bradley 6th Eric Byrnes 5th Bobby Kielty 5th Aubrey Huff(6th year, but guaranteed 7.5 mil as part of previous extension) Brad Wilkerson 5th Austin Kearns 5th Craig Wilson 6th

    Walker has a team option that can vest with a certain number of Plate Appearances (525 I believe). I really doubt it vests with his injury plus sharing some time with Hairston. Speaking of Hairston, I don't want him back in a starting role. He just doesn't create enough extra bases to have him in a starting role.

    If the DH enters the field, the pitcher has to hit for himself. In this case, it would mean removing Pujols from the game. Keep in mind...2 years ago, Bonds was elected to start in the outfield....but he was put at DH and Edmonds started in the OF in his place. So it is very possible that Pujols gets elected to start, but is put at DH and Lee at first instead Yeah, that's not the scenario CCF proposed though. He had TLR switching them during the game.
