  1. In that same time, he's posted a 4.19 ERA, I think one of our farm hands could do that.
  2. I guess we'll extend it, so we can get some more of them in. The only purpose for the deadline was just to make sure they got in in a timely manner. I may not have internet access for several days after today, so if you send your entry, don't worry if I haven't bolded your name.
  3. Obviously the injuries are a factor, but that's the risk you took with him, and IIRC his problems popped up after his extension. Last year, although he was limited to 140 IP, he still posted a 1.2 WHIP with over a K an inning and nearly a 3/1 K/BB ratio. Wood is very good once healthy. IF his injuries are behind him, he will be well worth his contract.
  4. Brenly has gotten progressively worse, IMO. I have really struggled to see what all the hype was about. He certainly is comfortable on the air, but the analysis is severely lacking. Agreed. Thankfully I'm able to tune him out most of the time.
  5. I'm not sure that's true, but even if it is, it's true for a LOT of pitchers. Some of that is a generalization while most of it is true. I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who wins as consistantly and is as durable as Greg Maddux. Regardless, this doesn't really matter because the amount we might be overpaying is insignifigant. I would put this issue among issues such as uniform color, Wrigley Field grass length, and opposing Managers' parking availability in terms of important issues that need discussion. It's not nearly that trivial. If the choice between having comparable production from Maddux for 9 million or a farmhand at the minimum is out there, you have to try and get rid of Maddux. That's nearly 10% of the payroll, not insignificant by any stretch of the imagination. I see what you're saying there. But why isn't anyone talking about trying to get rid of Wood for a cheaper option? I know Maddux is near the end, but he's still productive, probably more productive than any farm guy you can bring up right now. Because Wood is worth his contract, his problem has been health. If he's healthy, he's worth it, if he's not, he's untradeable. Maddux is serviceable, but I really think Mitre and Williams are close to him in production, certainly worth the dropoff to free up 9 million to use in other places.
  6. Maybe because they're thinking about performance going forward, not what they have produced? Dunno. I'm pretty sure when they signed Maddux, they were looking forward expecting 15 wins a year. Same thing with Wood. So far, only one of those guys has delivered. I'm not sure how well I can express how little it matters to me how many games each player wins. If they perform, they perform, there are too many factors that go into wins for me to use that to evaluate pitcher performance.

  8. Would anyone else support Len in a solo booth? I think it might be better than him and Brenly if he could pull it off.

  10. Len > Chip Stone >>> Brenly However, the fact that Len is more important to the team(i.e. he talks more) helps.
  11. I'm not sure that's true, but even if it is, it's true for a LOT of pitchers.
  12. Wins are a terrible, terrible metric to measure pitchers. There are a host of pitchers who could equal Maddux's production for less than he's making.
  13. Who did I get into that argument with? God, that was funny.... :lmao: The infamous auggiedoggie. Walker must have stiffed him for an autograph Patterson-style or something, he lived to rip Todd.
  14. LISTEN TO TODD, DUSTY. I've been calling for Walker-Barrett 1-2 for weeks.
  15. 4 of the 9 entries in. Try and get them in ASAP if you haven't.
  16. Last day to get your entries in. Those that have been submitted thus far are well done.
  17. Sure, you can edit it up until tomorrow night's deadline. The idea is to come up with the best trade ideas possible, don't want to discourage any new revelations. Just make sure that I can understand what your final entry is.
  18. It worked in the Wizard of Oz... So does that make Hart the wicked witch? [obligatory Macias reference]Macias is probably Toto.[/obligatory Macias reference]
  19. Way to spread the word Bruce! If you say it enough times, does it make it real?
  20. Now that I have received an entry, here's a page to double check that I have received the entries. If your name is bolded, I have received your entry. 21. Funny you mention that, here's a post I recently read from newbergreport.com after his career numbers were compared to Gabe Kapler. That's true, but on the other hand, he's not even mathcing his (or Kapler's) normal performance at the plate this year. My only point is that while I'd like to have Kotsay out there instead of Nix, I wouldn't go overboard in trying to trade for him. He's a pretty good player, but he's closer to Gabe Kapler than he is to, say, Johnny Damon.
  22. I think Hairston is the 3rd best option for LF. His OBP is higher than expected because of a fluke number of HBP. If he gets hit at the rate he has his entire career(4 HBP v. his 7 now), his OBP is around .340. That's right around Hollandsworth's career line, and Hollandsworth can hit for a little power. Never mind the fact that Dubois could likely approach that with consistent playing time.
  23. His last couple full years OBP: .370/.350/.360/.365/.350 His highest K total is 89 during that time, and he's got just under a 1:1 BB:K ratio. He has also has 5 HR and 37RBI and the ability to hit around 20 HR 65ish RBI/ IMO, He is much different than Hairston with better defense He only had a .343 OBP in 2003 when he had 538 PA's. Kotsay is a fine CF when his power numbers are up, as they were in 2004 and 2002. However, he's not much more valuable than Hairston when his SLG is below .400, especially with his OBP being lower than is norm for him. I'm not opposed to acquiring Kotsay under the right circumstances, since his BABIP is about 50 points lower than expected, and he's been better in the second half than the first the past few years. However, I don't think he's the solution to our offensive woes, and would hope that acquiring Kotsay would allow us to make a deal for another better bat, ala having the flexibility to trade Patterson in a deal.
  24. I agree. Corey is not producing the offense to be a corner outfielder, and the Cubs would be wasting his speed by putting him in LF. He would be more valuable playing CF somewhere else. The problem is potential. Corey is brimming with it, and Hendry has to fear that he will bust out (like Andruw Jones is doing right now) somewhere else. Really tough to trade away someone with Corey's tools, but the decision has to be whether the Cubs can win it all this year with a player (Kotsay) that will be upgrade this year, but possibly not in the future. Tough call. This is why Hendry has the GM job, to make tough calls like this. Is it possible that a switch to leadoff and left could jumpstart Patterson? Kotsay is better than Dubois/Holla IMO and the OF defense would be very solid. I don't know how comfortable CPatt would be going into that left corner either so it's also very possible CPatt could struggle even more. Don't you think moving to Left would be an easier position for Corey? Could you imagine our team outfield speed defense with Patterson/Kotsay/Burnitz? It gets me excited thinking about it. I can't imagine a move to an easier defensive position would affect Corey's offense negatively, in fact, intuitively, you'd think he'd be able to worry less about defense and more about getting his stroke down. I think getting Kotsay would ONLY be a positive thing for this team, imagine the RBI possibilities with this lineup: Kotsay .370 OBP Walker .370 OBP Lee Ramirez Burnitz Barrett Patterson Cedeno Pitcher. This is a no-brainer, as long as we don't have to mortgage the farm. We are STOCKED with major league ready starting pitching: Wood/Prior/Z/Maddog/Rusch/Wellmeyer/Mitre/Williams/Hill Kotsay's OBP is only .334 this year, and he's slugging below .400. Right now he's basically Hairston with better defense.
  25. Reminder, be sure to PM me your entries before Sunday.
