  1. Lee Solo HR, bunch of singles, Zambrano bases loaded double that scored 2.
  2. He is posting these numbers while repeating AA. He's still just 22 though, and put up fine numbers at AA last year(3.70 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 9.67 K/9). He supposedly has unspectacular stuff, but I don't see how he could be considered any lower than Marmol on the list.
  3. While Barrett is at a .775 OPS, that's 2nd best for NL catchers, only a couple points behind LaRue. Last year was the exact same, with Estrada in front of him. So when compared to other positions like corner infielders and outfielders, Barrett is nothing special. But we'd be hard pressed to find a better offensive catcher.
  4. Kyle's numbers are pretty similar at home and away, with the home numbers being slightly better. He's only given up one home run this year, and it was on the road. That's the only XBH he's given up on the road. His IsoP Against are identical for home/road.
  5. Yes, in the form of Scott Podsednik, Tadahito Iguchi, Jermaine Dye, and A.J. Pierzynski. Yep, it's a real murderer's row. Completely compatible with Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, anyone. Those 4 combined lines (assuming my math was correct) 271/333/418 I meant in general, not in any comparison to the Cards. Did you see the stat line there, none of those guys are much above average if that. The Cubs do not have a great(not even good sometimes) offense, yet in OPS they have better hitters than Sox at every position but RF, where Dye holds a slight lead over Burnitz. They are going to need an increase in production from somewhere, whether it's players improving on their first half totals(Rowand, Uribe) or an acquisition via trade(Randa?).
  6. But what does this stat help determine? Offensive value? BP's Stat Glossary contains pretty good explanations for many stats. Just search for the stat you are looking for at this link.
  7. I understand that the starting pitching pulls us up some. But hey man---are you 100% sure we're going to keep this rotation intact for the entire 2nd half? And if so, what makes you think that? It's been one injury after another with these guys. Maybe they just don't have what it takes to be consistent major-league starters. I'm glad they're all pitching at the same time again. But let's be realistic. The history shows one or more will go down again. Wow Soul. You are a negative nancy. I hope everyone around here isn't that way! No, many try to keep a positive outlook. However, all of us are required to refrain from statements that attack the person instead of the argument. I know it was in good fun, just giving you a heads up. 8. Jerome Williams, Corey Patterson, and Renyel Pinto? Welcome to Chicago Adam. (Although I'd try real hard to sub Mitre for Williams)
  9. Well not necessarily. Dubois, Mitre and Dope would technically be 2 major leaguers and a prospect. I would do that in a heartbeat. The term "2 major leaguers and a prospect" is pretty vague. He also said "as many as" 2 major leaguers and a prospect. As long as the major leaguers aren't Prior/Ramirez/Barrett caliber players, then it's worth it.
  10. Actually, in that AB Palmeiro walked. It was earlier they showed his prior AB where he grounded out. Did anyone else think it was just a little too convenient that the first Rangers batter they cut to, Soriano, got a hit? And at the very next moment, Palmeiro happened to be up? It was almost like ESPN knew in advance, as if, even though they called it "Live Bonus Coverage" there may have been a tape delay of a up to a minute or two for one of those segments? When it was brought up on NSBB last night, I'm pretty sure some were watching the A's on Extra Innings. I was watching BBTN, and seemingly found out about the hit at least at the same time as the others. However, I have no idea if there was a delay on Palmeiro's AB.
  11. When he popped out to first base in his last at bat, he ran so hard he was halfway to second when the ball was caught. I don't think you have to worry about that sort of thing with Murton.
  12. Of course, I'll be the first to say this will never happen, but it is an intriguing idea. Cuban wants his teams to win and he isn't afraid to spend money or shake things up. On the other hand, for those that value tradition, Cuban may not be your guy. He's innovative and is willing to try about anything. See Transactions. FWIW, Cuban was asked about the rumors and said "I won't deny it."
  13. awesome YOU CAN SEE HIS HANDS SHAKING WE DONT NEED ANY UNPROVEN GUYS
  14. Exactly. There wasn't anything wrong with his swing, the kid just needs at-bats.
  15. Why Carlos Lee? He's got a bunch of RBI this year, but his numbers on the whole don't suggest paying through the roof to get him(.268/.340/.528).
  16. Ongoing joke. Once Roast started the Game Threads saying that the team is awful, they started winning. Not wanting to mess with a good thing, he continued to do so, and others joined in. haha. Superstitious, eh? I was wondering the same thing. I'm used to treating them like the losers they are, but it was pretty weird not seeing anyone stick up for them.. I'll be sure to keep that tradition going. Superstition is what got the game thread starter thing going. Game threads and their starter are a quirky lot.
  17. The Cubs could be major players in the Free Agent and Trade market this offseason, add several players, and still technically cut payroll. In terms of the OF in the FA market you have to get either Damon, Matsui, or Giles to make it even worth it. Damon will probably get to many years, Matsui will probably be a Yankee still, and Giles is a nice question mark. Hopefully the Phillies will realize they are better off without Abreu. My point is that even if the Trib decides to cut payroll, it won't restrict the construction of our roster as much as some might think.
  18. You know Harden has been with Oakland all along, they got Haren from STL, right?
  19. He's the first to get 3000 hits and 500 HR when he gets it. No, three other guys have done it. You know I thought to myself, "I think that said he was the first one, I'm pretty sure I'm right". Gah :x
  20. He's the first to get 3000 hits and 500 HR when he gets it.
  21. Palmeiro walks. Most anti-climactic bonus coverage ever.
  22. Haha, first batter of bonus coverage BBTN shows and he gives it up. Palmeiro up now going for 3000.
