  1. So would you have let the pitcher bat? I'm trying to think back to who was available. Obviously losing Walkers stick hurt our chances, but Aurellia doesn't make a good play on Murton, the game is essentially over. I've heard about this one time that a guy pinch hit for a pitcher, and then he was out of the game. Might be a rumor though. Macias doesn't have to stay in the game.
  2. Walker was 2 for 3 with 2 walks when he got replaced too. There's not even something you can make up to defend that.
  3. Wait, so you're telling me that the guy who didn't pitch for 2 weeks got hit hard? Astonishing.
  4. Also, he's played in every game except 3 this year.
  5. Well, what other LHP in the bullpen does he have that hasn't pitched for 2 weeks?! The nerve of some people...
  6. Like Tickets, Concessions, and Merchandise? I don't know.
  7. Haha, "longest tenured". That's not exactly high praise to be with a AA team for 3 years.
  8. I thought Modzilla was an "it" not a "he" or a "she." There's a little Modzilla in all of us.
  9. He's no worse than Posada defensively. Jorge was routinely roasted in the NY papers for his "unsavvy" play behind the plate. He'd make stupid decisions, fail to block blockable pitches, and occasionally lose games. No team fails to make the playoffs because of one bad defensive player, unless that player is just extraordinarily awful. MB is not that bad defensively. You have to make choices when building a team. There are very few great defenders who hit a ton, ARod, Tejada, Lee and Pujols come to mind. If you got a great lineup, you can sacrifice some O in certain spots to insert the D. However, the Cubs do not have a great lineup, and they need Barrett's O. If they find two stud corner OF, a capable CF and somebody other than Neifi at short, then I'm all for dealing MB. But until they do that, they must find a way to get by with him in the lineup. And they can. I agree with the point you're making, but Posada has been significantly better defensively than Barrett over his career. This is the first year Posada's been below average defensively(Rate below 100) since 1999.
  10. If I am reading this correctly are Big 10 officials told to make the wrong call and just use replay. Wasn't part of the reason replay was taken away in the first place because it was so time consuming? Also if it was so obvious on the field, why call it a fumble and hope that the booth will call to review it. If UM had hustled onto the field and snapped the ball, there could be no replay. Seems kind of like a bad idea to me, to call a fumble because that can be reversed, but being down can't be. PS this is in regards to Quinns fumble in the fourth quarter of the ND game I didn't see the fumble in question so I can't comment on that specific occurrence. It seems like what they are seeing is that if the refs are faced with a tossup decision where they aren't positive either way, to choose the play with the potential to be reviewed. From that point of view, they have just as much a chance of being right calling a fumble(since from what they see is basically a 50-50 call), and if they are wrong, the replay will show that. They still have the same 50 percent chance of being right by calling him down, but without the chance of ultimately checking the call that they were unsure of to begin with.
  11. Lee is in all likelihood playing above the level he will play at in the future, which would make his value the highest. Barrett has been consistent at the plate the last two years, and if anything, his defense is likely to improve based on his career. If Barrett had a .750 OPS last year and a .900 OPS this year, then it might be a better comparison.
  12. Whether he added that on or not, everyone knows he's a liar when it comes to not bragging about players and jumping on bandwagons.
  13. This year has been Barrett's worst defensively(90 rate compared to 97 and 98 in the previous two seasons). I don't think he'll be as bad next year, and this year has cemented his place among the elite offensive catchers in the game. As long as this year looks like a fluke defensively, which it does based on his lased 285 games or so at catcher, then I'll gladly take a catcher who is slightly below average defensively and top of the line offensively.

  15. *sigh* Nice laydown. I'll take that to mean you concede the point. FWIW, I don't have anything against Theriot. I'm thrilled for the kid. I just think it's hilarious when people are pining for Dusty to play every mediocre non-prospect in the system. Also, I think it's a bit hypocritcal for people to be frustrated by Dusty's refusal to play kids, while at once not finding fault in that same kid's failure to get a bunt down. If you didn't "expect" him to get the bunt down when he was sent to the plate -- like you would if it were Perez/Patterson/etc. -- how can you fault Dusty for thinking likewise? I think it was more that he no longer wanted to have to stand in the face of idiocy. Come on, uncalled for.
  16. Patterson wouldn't have had that at bat because there's not way he would have fouled those pitches off. he would've messed up the bunt twice and then whiffed on the next pitch. And also, Patterson is now in his 4th major league season. That was Theriot's first MLB at-bat. And he already did better than Patterson. So, your point is totally invalid. So, it's okay for you to have lesser standards for Theriot (and other call-ups) because they're young, while at once being outraged that Dusty thinks young players are too inexperienced to play? It seems to me you can't have it both ways. Either you expect them to succeed, or you don't. And if you don't, you can't really get mad at the manager when he similarly expects failure. Theriot(and other rookies): possible failure, potential for success Dusty's favorites(Macias, Holla, etc.): virtually guaranteed failure
  17. So in other words, you have no idea who Roger Federer is. :P
  18. It's like he's good at baseball or something.
  19. If I were a betting man, I'd give you 10 to 1 odds that Z won't get pulled.
  20. The color of Dusty's skin has already saved him his job, no non-black manager(and some black managers too) would've lost their jobs easy for the "black players play better in the sun" comment. If they replace him with a minority(Fredi Gonzalez), or even a non-minority with connections to the organization(Girardi), I wouldn't think it would be an issue unless Scoop decides to write another garbage article to stir up controversy.
  21. I hope you weren't supposed to be in class when you posted that.
  22. :-$ You should have listened to Mizzou CPatt. I'm calling you Sully Jr. from now on. Or perhaps Sullys protege? Luckily I don't even walk past the J-School, so I can't claim any more connection than Mizzou has. What is your major? To keep with the thread....another cookie cutter stadium bites the dust. Computer Science And by continuing to debate the topic, you are letting Sullivan win. He's dumb. All the time.

  24. Check his splits from AA. Hitting RHP or LHP shouldn't be a problem, it's how many XBH he can get on the whole that will keep Murton from being a good corner OF.
