  1. By the same token, the people who played instead of them(Karros, Hollandsworth, Harris, etc.) haven't done much either. No one ever guaranteed the younger players were guaranteed studs, they only argued they were as good or better than the players they were benched for.
  2. Minor quibble: You'd think with all the LHP we're facing we could get Restovich a start over Jones.
  3. Might want to ease up the language on that post.
  4. Woah woah. Are you saying those that criticise the Cubs organizations are rational and those that don't are irrational? I think he/she means rational in the philosophical sense. It is a clash of world views. http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/rationalism-empiricism/ Exactly. I do not have a philosophy background either, but as far as my limited knowledge brings me, you are still saying that those who are critical of the Cubs organization are the only ones being rational and those that don't criticize, are unreasoned drones. nonsense. No. A rationalist beleives there is more to something than what one can get through their senses (see, hear, touch, taste or smell). You could call these people "anti-stat" or "pro-chemistry" or "pro-speed kills" if you like. An emperists believes almost the opposite. But that's the opposite of the correllation Caryatid was making. Not that I think he's saying people are mindless drones, but it seems someone has the words mixed up(hint: it's probably me).
  5. See now you're not discussing anything, you're just mocking the board as a whole, some of whom really don't care for Adam Dunn. You're right. I'm sorry. I'll be good. MIZZOU fans usually have a better sense of humor, though. I'm gonna go read the member guidelines right now. My nonsense ends HERE. Seriously. Shoulda used the wink emoticon, that makes everything ay-okay.
  6. People never get banned for disagreeing. They get banned for acting like idiots. In your opinion, should Gunned get banned for the post he made? Gunned got what he deserved, KurtEvans. Go photoshop something and LEAVE US ALONE! Adam Dunn only eats meat that's died of natural causes because he doesn't wanna hurt any of God's creatures. That's documented, people. See now you're not discussing anything, you're just mocking the board as a whole, some of whom really don't care for Adam Dunn.
  7. It's no fun when it needs to be explained. I should think of less obscure references.
  8. What of the guaranteed contract in '07? I'm not a big fan of that.
  9. Well, we're clearly being serious about you trading us Bay and Wilson.
  10. your 2nd picture isn't working (not for me at least) Weird, I'll save it and link it from photobucket.
  11. The way I see it: As a LF: Jones > Murton > Pierre As a CF: Jones > Pierre > Murton As a RF: Jones > Murton > Pierre So, you basically would be shuffling them around, except Jones' abilities would be accentuated more being able to help in both gaps. At the beginning of the offseason I didn't mind going after Jones as a CF, and I still don't. I don't think you'd ever see this though. On a tangent: does Podsednik throw left handed?
  12. Never seen Signs?
  13. I NEED to hear this story... http://www.rookiesquantities.com/images/jf04_11_Black.jpg = http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y44/cubsfan_05/merrillhess.jpg
  14. Over 162 games that's an awful lot more. Cubs leadoff spot, 2005: .299 OBP Juan Pierre, 2006: .284 OBP Wait, aren't you the one who constantly cites sample size? Talk about spinning stats for yourself. What in the world are you talking about? Have you read the thread? BSB said that Pierre at his current rate of production would get on base more than 2005's leadoff hitters. It's in the quotes directly above. He was wrong, so I pointed that out.
  15. Over 162 games that's an awful lot more. Cubs leadoff spot, 2005: .299 OBP Juan Pierre, 2006: .284 OBP Who all batted leadoff and for how many at bats? If you got your stats from the website, what is the link. I'm not doubting you, I'm just curious. I tried to look it up on BP but I couldn't find it. ESPN 689 ABs (Breakdown) Hairston 306 Patterson 128 Neifi 114 Lawton 75 Macias 35 Murton 10 Theriot 9 Gerut 4 Walker, Grieve 2 Burntiz, Nomar, Wilson, Dubois 1

  17. Conjecture my foot. Try running in sub 50 degree weather opposed to 80 degree weather. It's a big difference, especially when you are standing in the field all game or sitting in the dugout. If you don't move around a lot, your muscles tend to get tight. Tight muscles slow you down and increase the chances of an injury. What about nilo's point about the fielder? By the same logic isn't his arm colder and tighter, leading to slower throws? We're talking about 1/2 a step or less from home to first. That's well within the realm of influence. Substantially changing Pierre's arm speed to a noticeable level b/c of weather is a pretty tough argument to make. They don't exactly keep radar gun readings on centerfielders. I would guess his velocity does suffer some small amount in cold weather unless his arm is nice and warmed up. It's just not a noticeable difference. Why do they keep track of temperature and weather conditions in track? Because it affects results to a measurable level in those cases. I'm talking about the fielders throwing out Pierre at first.
  18. It's most likely irrelevant since this is bogus, but I'm not sure if the no trade clause extends to the option year.

  20. None of those other guys saved their nephew from an alien though.
  21. I disagree about both of those. In short, Pierre's season may not have been a fluke and I'm not sold on the "pure speed and energy" aspect. Jones is just bad. This is the point though. People disagree. When people complain about this sort of thing I don't really understand what they want. Should we have 5 page threads commending Barrett for his double? A "Congrats on fielding a groundball correctly" thread? This is a place for discussion, and inevitably disagreements and therefore debate will happen, and happen often. No, but should you have a 10 page thread about how bad someone sucks because of a strike out, passed ball, error, etc? They happen. Threads don't go to 10 pages because of a specific incident, they extend to people's views of the parties involved on the whole.
  22. in june, juan pierre is going to be so fast that he'll beat out routine groundballs to second twice a game Why are you exaggerating? In 650 AB, the difference between a .280 hitter and a .300 hitter is about 13 hits. Just missing an infield single every couple of games b/c your legs are cold/cramped/tight makes a big difference for a guy like Pierre. The Cubs have played 4 games this year with a temperature below 50 degrees, only 1 below 40.
