  1. yea. Its puzzling why the Bears didnt just play spy with Adams/Johnson. IIRC, in the first meeting JJ followed Adams to the slot and didn't have the same success as he did on the outside. Slot corner is talked about like a different position and I can see how it would be. JJ appears to be best as a boundary corner. Someone with more in depth football knowledge than me might be able to explain why beyond just being in the middle of the field. Man, I literally said this in the quoted post. LOL But yeah, outside vs. slot CB can be very different. The outside guy has the sideline on his side, so he can use that in his coverage technique to his advantage. The slot guy has a 2-way go. The WR could go on an in-breaking route or an outside route, so the slot requires a guy with more change of direction skill and enough hip flexibility to turn either way with the WR.
  2. COVID has struck the Bears again. The only thing anyone in the organization can catch. Bears have put their OC (Lazor), DC (Desai) and ST coordinator (Tabor) in Covid protocol. Along with the following players already on the list: Eddie Goldman- for I believe the 3rd time this year, and he very wisely (sarcasm) isn't vaccinated after sitting out 2020 Larry Borom Mario Edwards Sam Kamara Elijah Wilkinson Artie Burns They have had no in person contact this week due to the outbreak. With 2 OTs on the Covid list and Peters not healthy, Germain Ifedi (not even sure what his injury was) is ironically ready to go by Monday night according to Nagy.
  3. Yeah, this was always the thought with JSU hiring him. I don't know if the end game is Deion getting a Power 5 job or if it's the SWAC to become a power conference. I'm really hoping it's the latter because it will really shake horsefeathers up if black players in the South have a legit chance for exposure at HBCUs. I can’t see SWAC ever becoming a power conference. They just don’t have the money. In fact, it was a big deal this year when Jackson State players had their names on the backs of their jerseys because in the SWAC they have to reuse jerseys year to year. I believe Deion paid for that out of his own pocket. I mean, if they get all the top athletes to come to the conference, they'll get on TV (TV deals) and then they'll have money. But yeah, it's a long shot.
  4. That's about to change. If Deion (and other SWAC schools) continue to get top commits, that'll force stations to televise them. There are rumors flying that he's taking his bag to get a few other top guys, too, so this should be interesting. Yeah, this was always the thought with JSU hiring him. 5. To be fair, the Bears did have Johnson following Adams around the first time they played. Johnson was similarly good on the outside and got beat pretty handily in the slot. But IDC if you have to change your whole defense, you can't let DeVante Adams roam all over the field and face man coverage with Xavier Crawford, or LBs or a safety. If he beats Johnson (joke here) from the slot, then so be it. Get beat with your best on their best.
  6. Seems to me like I saw them on TV a bunch last season. Maybe I'm dreaming that. I think you are. They've been featured on TV commercials because of Deion doing Geico with Saban now, but SWAC games are rarely televised. That's about to change. If Deion (and other SWAC schools) continue to get top commits, that'll force stations to televise them.
  7. There were several plays sunday night where the GB defender took 2-3 steps as Fields was releasing the ball and still hit/tackled him. I'm used to it by now, but it seems like the refs let opposing D's tee off on him I guess in the NFL you have to survive long enough as a QB to start getting the calls. Until then, the risk of a career-limiting injury is way higher. That's how it seems anyway. There's a theory that many of these calls are mobile/immobile related. Mobile QBs universally believe that they don't get the calls that the pocket guys get. Cam Newton has always complained about it, and still isn't getting the calls at his veteran age. But the mobile QBs not getting roughing call thing leads to the potential of racially motivated calls, which I'm sure the league isn't ready to admit. I wonder if there's a statistic for how many roughing calls each QB has gotten. I'd be interested to see how guys like Herbert, Allen, and Mayfield compare to Lamar, Kyler and others.
  8. yea, that was above and beyond. even my wife (who hates all things sports and especially football) raised her head and eloquently made your point by saying something like "this is why I hate football, these announcers sound like they live in Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers is a lying piece of horsefeathers" For the record, whenever anyone has "horsefeathers" in a quote, I like to really imagine the person (your wife in this case) actually using the word horsefeathers. Makes every post funnier.
  9. We can expect perfect decisions, not perfect results. It's not even hard decisions. I was pissed he didn't go for 4th on the opening drive at the 40. I wasn't happy he kicked the 1st FG on 4th down from the 3. It was just asinine to punt the ball on 4th and inches down 11. It's not like they were in the shadows of the goal line either. You were 4-8 and getting fired. Why are you not playing to win? You're going to lose if you punt the ball to a QB that scored every time he touched the ball after the 1st quarter. Everyone expects you to lose, take risks. If you lose, so be it, you were supposed to anyway.
  10. I don't buy that they are putting him in any danger. He hasn't taken the amount of abuse to where he will be shellshocked from getting hit in the future. He also isn't really developing any unfixable habits. If he doesn't turn out to be a good QB it's because he can't play, not because a coach ruined him in a span of 13 games.
  11. I'm done talking about playcalling. It kinda is what it is at this point. I think we saw last year with Mitch when literally the only thing they could do with him is move the pocket around, that Green Bay can stop that. Sure they aren't playing towards Fields' strengths, but timing routes is stuff he needs to be able to do and work on, this year is just a learning process. Hopefully he is better at those things when a real offense needs him to do those in the future. I thought Fields played OK. The pick 6 was bad. A couple high throws. I thought the high ball to Grant was more due to Grant slipping out of his break and the throw was mostly fine. Robinson made a great catch on a high one, that would have been a 1st down if it was a better throw (play before the 4th and short punt, IIRC). The INT at the end to Mooney was a bit high, but I'd like to see these guys start making plays. Not a great throw, but catchable. Robinson had shitty effort on a few of his targets as well. Kmet with a couple drops. Montgomery dropped one. Byrd could have had better awareness on the sideline incompletion (high throw to get over the defender). Just really tough to evaluate Justin right now because of the coaching and talent. The talent isn't going to get much better next year (possibly worse as you will downgrade from what ARob is supposed to be), so Fields is going to have to take the next step. Can't complain much about 23 points put up with what he has to work with. Probably puts up more if he has a better coaching staff who goes for it on 4th and inches or from the oppo 40 and of course if the game wasn't over and they weren't forced to go on 4th late.
  12. Yeah, the Bulls asked for a postponement and the league was like, "Nah. Suit up." I mean, I know it's Detroit, but a team of NBA players will destroy Lonzo, Vooch, 85% healthy Caruso and G-leaguers. And the Bulls have no business losing to Detroit in a normal circumstance
  13. He looked like a rookie playing his first game. I thought he did well in the 1st half. Had a few penalties. False start? It happens. Holding calls? The one on the strip sack, he held for like a 1/2 second. He grabbed then tried to get his hands away quickly and just kind of let the guy go completely. Should have just continued the hold (probably didn't know he got caught) and lived to play another play. The one on the WR screen where he was lined out wide, I thought was weak. He probably held, but he was just mauling a little DB. It always looks like holding when a 320lb guy dominates someone 190. On the 2nd sack he gave up (and on at least 1 other pressure/QB hit) he seemed to be screwed up by the lack of a chip block from RB. He seemed to be waiting on Montgomery to get the chip and then engage in his block. Monty barely touched the guy and Jenkins looked like he was waiting around for the chip to happen first, by the time he realized the chip wasn't happening, the defender had him beat.
  14. Losing on the road to Green Bay in primetime isn't a reason to want him fired ASAP. I get you probably wanted him fired yesterday, but literally all year Bears fans have been like "fire him tonight, don't let him on the bus" for every loss. Every single loss we knew was gonna be an L going into the game, except maybe San Francisco and that was 50/50 at best. Sent from my SM-A115AZ using Tapatalk
  15. Nagy going for the season high in points. I swear if he says anything about that in the press conference.....
  16. LMAO Why the hell you kicking?
  17. He better not as he's punted twice in those short yardages situations
  18. Well that's a shitty call complete with a missed hold.
  19. I'd say there's as close to 0 chance Desai is the DC next year. The Bears are either going to go with a 1st time head coach, who will bring in an experienced DC. Or they'll go with an experienced HC who will already have made enough connections to bring in his own guy.
  20. Fumbles are the biggest issue I have with him this year. Jenkins had been pretty good up until that play.
  21. Great drive to end the half for Fields. Having that pick 6 and potential for disaster with so little time left and being able to put that behind him and get points is nice
  22. That was a mess out of the timeout. There's the Matt Nagy offense we know and loathe.
  23. Who the hell idea was it to have Xavier Crawford in man coverage on Devante Adams?
  24. Real life things I said watching that punt return: Dude, let that go. horsefeathers why you going to the outside take it right up the gut. Dude, just go down now. Oh horsefeathers!
  25. Just as everyone expected, Bears in a shootout.
