precedent doesn't make it not stupid I go back to Hatley running the draft when everybody knew he was gone the next week. It's dumb. on one hand it feels like his firing has been building for a long time and inevitable, on the other hand the situation feels knee jerk I'm ready to move on. I feel disappointed in what I thought Nagy would be but never was, but I'm done watching what Nagy has become. What's knee jerk about it? It's been a complete clown show since camp and the handling of the media with the Fields, Jenkins and other situations. Started off decently, another 5 game losing streak, had 2 weeks to build on the best performance of Fields' career and he drops an all too familiar dud against the league's worst pass D.

Some fun stats for this one. Bears are in the midst of their FIFTH 5-game losing streak in the last 12 years. The Lions have had multiple 8 game winless streaks in the last 3 years, and an uncountable number of 5-game losing streaks. After winning 15 of his first 21 games, Matt Nagy's Bears have mirrored that by losing 15 of their last 21 (both include playoffs). The Lions last win was Dec 6th, 2020 against our very own Chicago Bears.

Another underrated mistake about the whole extra point situation was taking the penalty on the PAT and going from the 1 instead of the 2. The play called was a pass, which would work just as well (or better) than a pass from the 1. Nevermind the fact that the pass itself was horrible and wouldn't have worked anyway. Could have skied the kick and forced a return, with good coverage could have made them start inside the 20.

Thats pretty low on my list considering everything. Considering game situation I think overall Run/pass split was fine and it's not like Montgomery wasn't having success. I get the complaint but I also think the Bears ran way too much early on based on the opponent they are playing. Monty was playing well and we didn't need more running. I believe I also saw Herbert running back kicks as well. I still can't believe we played the worst pass D in the league (by yardage allowed) and Fields threw 7 passes in the first half. Yes there were at least 3 RPO's called (all runs) and yes he got sacked 1-2 more times on drop backs but still way too many called run plays, particularly on 1st down. I think every first down except 1 in the first half was a run. I don't mean just getting him the ball in the run game. You had 1 1/2 capable WRs, throw the ball to the backs out of the backfield. Do something to get the ball in playmakers hands. Not just yesterday, but in general. Kmet only had 1 touch too. And I didn't/don't mean to make a big deal out of it, but it's another one of those Nagy things that makes him a terrible coach. It's the same way he couldn't figure out how to get Mike Davis the ball when he only had a then mediocre rookie, Montgomery running the ball. It's nitpicky, but just another "guy is over his head" example for me.

One underrated thing that annoyed me yesterday.... Khalil Herbert had 1 touch. This is the dude that held the run game together for a few weeks while Montgomery was out. You have your top WR out, so short on weapons. Herbert is probably your 3rd or 4th best weapon yesterday (not including Fields himself).

I honestly don't think it means a whole lot. 2019- Mitch got hurt in the first series. 2020- Mitch was benched because he was bad, not because he was ill prepared. Foles did some great things, but he was allowed to sling the ball all over the field with a huge deficit 2021- Dalton got explosive play TDs on a screen pass and a blown coverage. Other than that he was 9-21 for like 90 yards.

I don't see any scenario where Nagy is the coach next year, unless you think 7 in a row to end the regular season and a playoff win are possible. And if you know in November your coach isn't going to be around next year....then cut bait now. I will say, they aren't going to fire him with a short week. And as bad as they are, they probably won't lose to Detroit. So, I think that AZ/GB stretch will do it. There's not much chance this Bears team keeps that GB game close, and with the coaching hire window opening earlier this year, this has gotta be the year a move is made before the season is over.

Something about the logo on the polo. Bears have lost 8 in a row after the bye. Nagy, Fox, Trestman (he did win the last post bye game though) all lost after the bye. Just like offense, it's not possible to do for the Bears organization.

Yeah, a lot of reasons I wanted Lamar to play. This is one of them. Another is my undefeated fantasy team has him as the QB. Also I wanted Fields to compete head-to-head with him. I know it's not a direct competition between those two, but I think Fields was really looking forward to the matchup. Also, not gonna lie, a Bears loss wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I'll never root for them to lose, but there are rumors than an embarrassing L means the first in-season firing in franchise history. Plus, I don't care if the Bears give up a top 5 pick to the Giants. Having a 2nd round pick very early could be huge in a draft where you can get 1st round talent in the 32-37 pick range at the Bears positions of need (WR, OL, CB) or it can create great trade down opportunities for a team with many needs and just 2 early picks right now. I’m sorry did you say trade down? Pace is going to package that pick to trade back into the first round if he’s still the GM I'm operating under the assumption he won't be the GM or that he has learned from his mistakes. He got his QB and LT so no need to trade up for any other position (I know he has also traded up for RB, WR, FS, etc).

Lamar officially inactive. Huge break for the Bears, which seems weird to say for a team missing Eddie Jackson, ARob, Mack and Hicks. But a decent chance of getting 2 backup QBs in a 5-day span. Even if Goff plays, it's still Goff and a winless team. 3-6 at this moment but probably should be 5-6 by Thanksgiving dinner. I know nobody wants to hear it, but 2 wins put the Bears back in the playoff hunt.

Well, that kinda sucks. Trevis Gipson, time to step up and prove the Bears can cut bait with one of the two massive edge contracts sucking up cap room on the roster. Yep. Gotta stick with the plan. I didn't really care how good Quinn played this year, you have to cut bait with him this offseason. He started the year on fire, has slowed down a little bit but still decent. But you simply can't keep a 32-year old, non-versatile, edge rusher around at a 17Mil cap hit. Without Mack, he probably won't play well enough to justify keeping him. I'd also rather give snaps to Gipson and Snowden than waste them on Bruce Irvin, but whatever. Cut as much money tied to aging players as you possibly can this offseason. Quinn, Trevathan, Graham, Foles, Hicks, Dalton, Tashaun Gipson, Goodwin, Ogletree, etc. Get younger on defense. Spend money on offense. Profit.

They really lost the bye week. SMH

By the same token, if the NFL is going to truly expand, they almost have to expand internationally. With 36-40 teams, you run the risk of oversaturing the US market. Like i don't think a 2nd Chicago team would work as well as most think. I don't love Portland, St Louis or San Diego as destinations really either. I know there's been KC and STL teams together in the past and SD and 2 LA teams at the same time, but part of the appeal of the NFL is so few games and so few cities to catch a game.

Putting an actual team in NYC makes a ton of sense. But I think if they did expand to 40 teams for some reason (hate this idea), then there would definitely be 2 European teams at the least. Maybe even have 4 of them to form a division and make the travel/bye week schedule easier. Thinking 2 in England (both in London or 1 in Wales). 1 in Germany. And I think Ireland would get the other as they hosted a college game a couple years ago. NYC/Brooklyn St Louis London 1 London 2 Germany Ireland San Diego Monterrey

Sounds like playoffs I want this to happen so bad. Just make a whole mockery out of this 7th seed thing. Win-win. Nagy doesn't do well enough to keep his job. Fields gets playoff experience. Giants only get the 20th pick (with a 1st round loss) despite being almost as good as them.

Mack and Jackson better play or else they should have been put on short-term IR. This would be Mack's 3rd game missed (minimum for IR) and if Jackson doesn't practice this week, I don't see him playing 4 days later on Thanksgiving, which would be his 3rd full game missed. I'm guessing/hoping the vets are just getting an extra day to come back from the off week. Hoping all (Mack, Jackson, Hicks) are at least practicing on a limited basis tomorrow.

He wasn't listed in the boxscore, only DNP was Tyler Cook. So, IDK if Marko was the move to get Coby on the active roster

I meant to ask the other day...What were Daniels' issues at center? Was it aptitude, strength, movement, something else? I like the Jenkins at LG idea, but this swing tackle idea might be the higher upside play? If he comes in and shows competence, there's a 40 YO LT with G experience playing a 17 game schedule who may not mind shifting inside to close the season Apparently it was making line calls. Possibly related to youth/inexperience, but also apparently literally that he was to quiet. Yeah, I read the biggest issue was that they simply couldn't hear him make the line calls, while also having trouble with the calls as a rookie, wasn't a good combo. Seems weird as he was a center at one of the best coached OL schools for 3 years. It's not like he never did it before or was calling them out for a small school with 6000 people in the stands.

This sounds like the plan is to make him the swing tackle for now.

I mean there's definitely something to be learned from paper, but yea a guy needs reps. I can make the case for a lot of different alignments. Unfortunately in a perfect world Peters would be sat, but he's been the best lineman and ya you wanna protect Fields pocket. So Mustipher is the weakest link, but that creates probably the most movement in alignment. I'm not too worried about L/R alignment between Borom and Jenkins. So I keep Borom at RT. If Peters stays at LT, and Mustipher out then Daniels or Whitehair has to move to C. Whitehair probably has had more success there and then you avoid two rookies next to each other. So: Peters-Jenkins-Whitehair-Daniels-Borom But I could make the case to move Daniels to C. I could also could make the case to get Jenkins in at RT if they think thats where he ultimately ends up. Or I say forget L/R alignment. If Borom looks good at RT don't mess with it. Stick with the (presumably original) plan of Jenkins at LT, but play him at G the rest of this year. Still gets work on the L/R muscle memory, just from the inside spot, then kicks out to T in 2022. And you prioritize stabilizing LG next to him in FA in 22. I'd probably do that line you suggest, putting Jenkins at LG. One thing to remember though is that Jason Peters played guard last year for the Eagles, I believe it was on the right side though. I do think Whitehair at C makes much more sense than Daniels, not only because he played the position better previously, but also because he's under contract for 2022 unlike Daniels.

Ah yeah, forgot about the Thanksgiving game. But the Bears weren't shy at all about getting Borom in there quickly. Granted, much different injury situations and Jenkins hasn't practiced since like June; but Borom missed a bunch of camp, almost all of preseason then just had 10 snaps in week 1 before 7 weeks off and only needed 2-3 practices before getting a start. And the Bears have been pretty consistent with guys being activated the Sunday (Monday in Montgomery's case) after starting their return from IR window.

Deon Bush and oh yeah, TEVEN JENKINS are practicing today, opening up their 21 day window to return to the active roster. Be interesting to see where/if they'll play Jenkins. I'd move Whitehair back to center (bench Mustipher) and probably put Jenkins at LT, with Peters sliding inside to LG. But I'm going to assume they'll put Jenkins at LG because the 39-year old vet with no future on the team has earned respect or something
