  2. The passing game was pretty "open" against Green Bay. But the attack was pretty well balanced, with 27 passes and 26 runs. Of course, there were 6 Fields runs in there and that Kmet lateral thing near the goalline which isn't really a run, and 4 sacks. Fields had plenty throws over 15 yards.
  3. Last year, I was one of the few that called the Tampa game a W when the schedule came out. It was the perfect situation. They had to travel to Chicago on a short week for a Thursday night game. It was early enough in the season to where the Bucs hadn't completely become a juggernaut just yet. And the Bears still play the type of defense that's going to be tough to beat on a short week after traveling. This year, it's the opposite of that game. Tampa played LAST Thursday night and the Bears travel TO them when they have a long week. They brought back all 11 starters on a SB winning offense and have pretty much been clicking on all cylinders from Day 1 of this season. The Bears are going to get beat rather easily in this one. I'd be happy with them scoring early and hanging around for 3 quarters and giving themselves a chance in the 4th like yesterday, but this one should get ugly early. TB has won games 45-17 and 48-25 against Atlanta and Miami this year. While the Bears are better than those teams, the extra rest, road game, and coming off a rivalry game, seems all but certain the score is in that range. Tampa opened as 12.5 favorites.
  4. For perspective, teams are 93-364 since the start of the 2019 season when scoring fewer than 20 points. A 0.204 win percentage. The Bears have scored less than 20 points on 22 different times (in 38 games!) and are actually 8-14 in those games for a 0.364 win percentage. Expected W/L in these games would be 4-18. Since the same point, teams are 465-180 (0.721) when they allow 24 or fewer points. The Bears are just 16-12 (.571) when this happens. And 28 of 38 games have had points allowed within this threshold! Expected W/L in these games would be 20-8. So, the Bears have what amounts to an 11-12 win defense (70% of the time), while fielding a 3-4 win offense (60% of the time) over the last 2 1/3 seasons. The results? A perfect split of the difference at 19-19. Great post. The bottom line has always been simple and still the Bears just can’t get their arms around it: The offense isn’t good enough. Except for 2018 - they need to score more points. That’s it. It’s not complicated. It’s the NFL in 2021, you can’t expect to be a winning football team if you aren’t putting up 20+ consistently (and occasionally 30 or 40). There will never be an 85 Bears D or a Ravens 2001 D or even a 2006 Bears D type super bowl again. Gotta roll with the times. Can't take credit for the post. Got it off of a stats guy on Twitter.
  5. That's OK, him and the Packers will get their asses kicked in the playoffs and they'll end winning just as many SB's the season as the Bears will - 0. In facing playoff teams they don't have the luxury of opposition coaching ineptness and cowardice the Bears provide, bites them in the ass every time and will again this season. I also don't know why this is a thing Bears fans bring up. I mean, they've won 2 rings since the Bears have won their last. And making fun of a team for winning the division every year and losing in the NFC championship game, while your team has won 2 playoff games in 25 years is like making fun of the handsome multi-millionaire who bangs chicks every night at his bachelor pad because he doesn't have true love when you and your wife have been married for 30 years and sleep in separate bedrooms.
  6. Yeah.....I'm not going to jail over a damn sports game. But to each his own. And he does own the Bears. As for the bad calls, yeah there were a bunch of them..... - Taunting call against Edwards, weak call but Edwards has a history (3 this season in 4 games) and it was the 1st play, gave them extra yards not necessarily drive changing probably would have scored anyway (of course would have if they called Rodgers for grabbing his facemask first, but that's literally never called on a QB) - backward run by Packers that somehow got a 1st down (of course it was 2nd and 1, they would have picked it up eventually) - holding call on Mustipher that wasn't a hold (Bears still scored a TD on that drive) - Packers got called for OPI in the endzone, which was very weak and they actually lost 4 points from that call. The only 1 really mattered was the neutral zone infraction. Fields rightfully thought he had a free play and threw up some crap. Of course, if Allen Robinson doesn't give up on his big armed, 4.4 running QB as he's escaping the pocket, he might have been able to make a play or get a DPI (his effort has been ass, I hope they look to trade him before the deadline).

  8. That is interesting. I was just thinking today that this rookie class was probably considered the best and most ready class, maybe outside of 1983. But they've all been pretty bad, except for Mac Jones who's been young Andy Dalton. Of course, the 3 who have started multiple games and been below average are running 3 of the 5 worst offenses from last year and probably the 3 least talented offenses in the NFL today. 9. Interesting stats. On the 2 scoring drives, Fields was a combined 8-8 for 110 yards, a 26-yard DPI penalty and a TD On all other drives, Fields was 8-19, 64 yards and an INT That missed neutral zone infraction on the INT really sucked, man. Called correctly, that makes it 3rd and 2 from the Packers 42. Probably 4 down territory and a conversion likely means at least 3 points, and a double digit lead.
  10. Sure there are some plays and schemes he’s more comfortable with and it’s not like it’s all been bad at all. But twice today he took his team out of FG range by taking a sack on 3rd down. That can’t happen, it needs to be thrown away but he waited too long and/or tried to make a rush that wasn’t there. On one of them he tried to run to the edge like he probably successfully did 100 times in college but the defense was just too fast for him. I don’t know if that’s processing or lack of situational awareness but it’s a problem he needs to fix. But at the same time I think there is a lot of adjustment for him right now and he will only figure it out by playing more I think it's more that NFL defenses are better coached, moreso than a speed thing. NFL defensive ends know, if they aren't getting home they need to watch for him to break the pocket to the outside. The NFL guys stay in their rush lanes more. When he breaks the pocket to the edge, he has to just go. He can't be moving laterally and still looking for the throw. He just takes off, there's nobody catching him. Flee the pocket with the intent to run, he can always pull up and throw the pass, he's athletic enough to do that.
  11. Under Nagy the Bears have had 16 games started by QBs other than Trubisky. They are 0-9 in those games when the other team scores TWENTY (20) points. Bears offense have had 2 halves of football this year where they've scored multiple TDs. They've had 4 (of 12 halves) where they haven't reached the endzone at all. 98 points scored thru 6 games, 16.3 PPG average, which includes a defensive TD. The 15.16 on offense would be less than the historically bad offense of the Jets performed last year.
  12. Pretty straight forward. Like OJ's book, "I didn't do it, but if I did I would have done it like this"
  13. Has anyone heard anything about Borom? I think he had a high ankle sprain, which could be quite a while, maybe 6 weeks? Jenkins is likely out all season still, I don't think there's been any update on him and not expecting anything. Biggs said he wouldn’t be taken off injured reserve this week because they usually do it ahead of the current week’s practices and he’s not practicing. Next week looks probable. Any updates on Jenkins or Cohen? Elijah Wilkinson is kind of bad, so getting Borom back sooner rather than later would be ideal. However, I must say I would be a little disappointed with him starting at RT instead of LT. This year is mostly about the long-term outlook and I would love to see him get some more reps at LT. Though, any reps are better than no reps. Maybe Jenkins comes back with 4-5 games left and gets reps at the other side, but it would be really nice if the Bears went into 2022 with at least 1 proven tackle on a rookie deal.
  14. Yeah, Urlacher had signature games: - 2 sacks of Culpepper and like 3 tipped passes vs. Minnesota - The aforementioned Falcons game where he looked like a better athlete than Vick - The aforementioned Cardinals game where he made like every 2nd half tackle, 2 passes defensed, 3 QB hits, 3 TFLs He had signature plays: - 85 yard pick 6 vs. Favre - Pick 6 in the Tennessee route featuring several Peanut punches - The forced fumble in Arizona that Tillman scored on
  15. Definitely hard to come up with good moments from a 1st ballot HOF LB, 4-time all pro, 2x DPOTY, who led his team to a Superbowl.
  16. That's how I feel right now, but I feel like the Packers have a chance to flip a switch and just coast to the division and probably an NFC championship game as usual, especially when they get healthy. And they're already 4-1 without playing very good football so far. The Bears' hopes seem more dependent on the defense being healthy and great, while hoping Fields can play mistake free football on the way to redzone efficiency and 20-17 wins. I think the Bears can sneak out that type of game here. But I don't think that's the only way they win. I honestly feel like Fields is capable of another game where he's throwing the ball down the field on these guys and the Bears can actually outscore them if the D doesn't break in the redzone. The Packers seem to be even more dependent on Davante Adams than ever, as no other WR or TE is even averaging more than 2 catches per game, except Randall Cobb who just has 11 grabs in 5 games. Would love to see Jaylon Johnson follow Adams around and cement his probowl season, because them getting him in the slot to work over Duke Shelley all game scares me (though bracket coverage with Jackson or DHC wouldn't be the worst thing).
  17. Up 40 after 3 quarters against the Pelicans. Granted no Zion and Ingram, but these guys look like they've been playing together for years. I have seen the Bulls a decent amount of the last few years, but haven't seen much of all the non-Lavine players. Lonzo looks improved from when I saw him last year. Caruso is a lot better than I thought he was. I knew he played solid defense and was athletic, but he can run an offense/fast break and is a really good passer and shooter. Honestly, I thought he was a guy that could give you a spark and experience, but I wouldn't mind him getting 30+ minutes in most games. Vuc actually seems most comfortable in 4-guard lineups.
  18. We gotta stop bringing up the past and quit the witch hunts. What these young guys said 10 years ago when they were....*checks notes* 48 years old, don't reflect who they are today.
  19. Jakeem Grant is a really good returner (muffed punt last week notwithstanding). He'll probably reward the Bears with a TD at some point this year, which is nice. He can contribute some as a WR, but I think it would be more as a target for WR screens and jet sweeps. But the Bears only have gotten 10 touches for Goodwin and Byrd thru 4 week so far. I don't think he's worth trading a pick for and paying 1.5Mil for 13 games before he's a FA after the year, but it's only a 2023 6th. In a roundabout way, this is may be fallout from the Montgomery injury. Probably gotta take Herbert off of kick returns now as he'll be the #2 RB with Monty out (then again, never took Patterson off KR last year). Webster probably is gone, which is good because he sucks.
  20. Side note, I hated Roy Wood Jr and didn't think he was funny for the longest time. But like as of a year ago or so, he's one of the funnier comedians to me now.
  21. I mean, who could have seen this Urban Meyer hire not working out and being a disaster in the short term? Sometimes you just get bad breaks.
  22. IDK if I want the Raiders to lose tonight to reveal some chinks in their armor for next week or if I want them to win and the Bears have a chance to knock off one of the last 2 unbeaten teams. I actually kind of like the Bears chances. They're going to be underdogs from now until Thanksgiving, unless the Steelers completely implode, though that's still a road game for the Bears. And they are probably not going to lose 6 straight games, so this one is as winnable as any of the next 6 on paper.
  23. One advantage is that it's a short week for the Raiders, as they play on MNF tonight. I think the line I saw earlier was Raiders -5.5. We'll see...if this one is tough then certainty the 3 after won't be any easier (GB, @TB, SF), should probably win this one if they want any hope of competing for a playoff spot. I was looking into this and it's not as much of an advantage as you would think. Raiders are home next week (short road trip home tonight). They aren't playing a great team. Those are the 2 biggest factors for short week struggles.
  24. I actually don't necessarily agree with this. I mean, Fields has 1 pretty good (not great or perfect) game and 1 disaster game. I don't think yesterday proved he's ready to take over the team full-time. I do think, at the very least, you give Dalton an extra week to heal even if he looks to be close to 100%. Let Fields get the Vegas game to prove yesterday wasn't "just the Lions" and that last week was all on Nagy's terrible gameplan. I love Fields as much as the next person, but I don't think you can say that yesterday completely erases what happened a week ago with a historically bad offensive output. If he's good against the Raiders, then he keeps the job. If he's bad again, then I'd have no problem if they decide to go back to Dalton. Dalton games don't do anything for this franchise, but at least they can be justified with a bad Fields performance next week.
  25. Yeah, Fields isn't a big anticipation guy. He's a QB that's going to throw it when he sees his guy open and getting separation. So, Robinson not getting a ton of separation isn't going to be the guy Fields targets a ton against man coverage. ARob's targets today were mostly against zone coverage. At Ohio St, Fields' WRs were speedy, separation guys moreso than possession WRs. I compare Fields' game a lot to Deshaun Watson. I think they're very similar style QBs in that they hold onto the ball for the last possible second. They are both great runners but aren't run first guys at all. And Watson was good with a high volume possession WR (Hopkins), but actually got better when they went to an all speedy, separation type of WR corps last year. So, the Robinson decision this offseason is going to be really interesting. If they keep Robinson, he's almost certain to suffer statistically going from bad QBs that rely on him to bail them out vs. a QB that's looking for separation. But if they lose Robinson, they almost certainly are going to downgrade from what is already a lackluster WR group.
