  1. It's a surprise because Young will be 31 in Week 2 and a 2 year extension takes him thru his age 33 season, for a team that has gotten rid of almost everyone that has either been 30+ or an odd fit....Young is both.
  2. Not surprising they are. They see a ton of pitches just like the Cubs. It will be interesting because Lackey mostly throws strikes. Or tries to, at least. That's what makes Lackey so good, he tries to throw strikes unlike every other pitcher in the history of baseball.
  3. He was flagged for a shoulder issue at the combine. Had to go back for a medical re-check based on the concerns of 1 team (Jags, IIRC). He was cleared on the re-check. Obviously, there was an existing issue there with the shoulder because that would have to be one hell of a swim move to tear up his shoulder.
  4. Dude, you're old AF! (I was born the same day) Share a birthday with Dusty Baker.
  5. turning the big 4-0 in a month eh? :bye: Yessir.
  6. The day I was born, some dude named Steve Renko started and the Cubs lost 6-4 to the Big Red Machine, to move 14 1/2 games back in mid June.
  7. This is not an opinion based thing. The Cubs are actually the best team in baseball. Gerrit Cole can not believe it all he wants, but that doesn't mean it isn't a fact. Oh I know we are the best team in baseball. I'm simply making fun of Gerrit Cole's line of thought. If we aren't the best team in baseball and we've trounced them that badly, how bad must the Pirates be? Yeah, I know you know. We all know. Anyone who doesn't is in denial.

  9. I know RBIs aren't the greatest stat ever, but Russell is on pace for 125 RBIs hitting exclusively from the 7th and 8th spots in the order (has hit 6th, but 0 RBIs there).
  10. ... and they never beat us again. The end. Ah, I remember that like yesterday. The Cubs were so young and naive and beating the Pirates by only 1 run.
  11. This is what I was worried about, especially against teams that see the Cubs a lot. They haven't played us within 4 runs yet, frustrations are going to mount whether they have a legit reason to or not.
  12. And before the fourth inning. That's what I was saying. "Other than" the 4th, he threw 7 hitless innings today.
  13. +26 run differential vs the 2nd best team in the division. This season is fun.
  14. Jake threw a no hitter other than the 4th inning.
  15. Oh Jorge. Short inning, long inning, short inning, long inning for Arrieta so far.
