  1. I know RBIs aren't the greatest stat ever, but Russell is on pace for 125 RBIs hitting exclusively from the 7th and 8th spots in the order (has hit 6th, but 0 RBIs there).
  2. ... and they never beat us again. The end. Ah, I remember that like yesterday. The Cubs were so young and naive and beating the Pirates by only 1 run.
  3. This is what I was worried about, especially against teams that see the Cubs a lot. They haven't played us within 4 runs yet, frustrations are going to mount whether they have a legit reason to or not.
  4. And before the fourth inning. That's what I was saying. "Other than" the 4th, he threw 7 hitless innings today.
  5. +26 run differential vs the 2nd best team in the division. This season is fun.
  6. Jake threw a no hitter other than the 4th inning.
  7. Oh Jorge. Short inning, long inning, short inning, long inning for Arrieta so far.
  8. Could just be for today because Locke is a lefty. Not really. Didn't Kalish have to be DFA'd?
  9. Eh, Ross has been awesome but he's also only player in 70, 50 and 30 games the past 3 years. While he maybe should get a little bit of an expanded role I worry he might really wear down at his age if we say push it and have him play 100+ games. It probably wouldn't be wise to get rid of Montero in case Contreras would fail and then really have to rely on Ross for a prolonged stretch. As Joe alluded to the other day a reason some of these guys may be playing so well is because of regular rest and an expanded role would diminish returns. I guess my thinking is that it doesn't have to be expanded THAT much for Ross. Ross is on pace for 86 games played this year. 50/50 the rest of the probably wouldn't kill him. I don't think there would be many complaints with him continuing to catch Lester and Lackey, while playing matchups for the other starters......with Contreras getting the rest of the ABs. Even if Contreras struggles, there's 7 other bats in the lineup to make his offense not a huge determining factor of this team's success.
  10. I don't hate when he comes up with RISP as much this year. With him playing as well as he has, even in an expanded role, I really think it would be interesting to see the Cubs try to get rid of Montero and let Contreras develop along side Ross. Obviously, no rush to that though.
  11. What's the status on Montero? I figured he'd be back on the club sometime this weekend. Maybe waiting til Monday with Ross certainly getting the start tomorrow (and probably today also)? Has anyone heard anything definitive?
  12. Cubs scored at least 4 runs on Locke every time they faced him last year. None of the lineups he faced had Jason Heyward or Ben Zobrist in them (obviously). 3 of those lineups had Welington Castillo at C, all had Denorfia or Lake and Castro (though he hit Locke well), and all had last year's version of Russell in them.
  13. Heyward/Soler on base 5 of 6 times. I like that.
  14. I'd like to see Maddon try to jumpstart Soler and Heyward by moving Soler to 2nd in the order and Heyward 6th behind Zobrist.
  15. How can this game be over if that other team has more runs? I don't understand.
  16. I dont like this. I don't have a great reason not to like it, but is the fact that this guy has survived 3 regimes and been there forever worrisome to anyone else? The sentiment around Bears beat writers and others is that this is definitely a move you shouldn't like.
